Chapter 8: Chapter 5: The Path of Fog...3
The battlefield was engulfed in tension as the two shinobi's techniques clashed with elemental fury. Yuta advanced, his water barrier glowing brightly, each droplet resonating with his determination. He felt the exhaustion in his muscles, but also the unwavering will to win.
The enemy, covered in the blackness of his own mist, smiled with an expression of cold satisfaction. His eyes, now clearly visible, reflected the confidence of someone who knew he was on the verge of a decisive victory. The Black Mist of the Abyss continued to try to devour Yuta's chakra, but his water barrier struggled to contain the dark pressure.
"You're exhausted, Kid," the figure said, its voice reverberating through the mist. "I can feel it. Your chakra is at its limit. You won't last much longer."
Yuta ignored the words, staying focused on his target. He knew time was running out and this would be his last chance to turn the tide of the battle. As he drew closer, he began to form hand seals amidst the glow of his barrier.
"No… I'm not done yet," he growled, straining every movement, every breath. A torrent of water swirled around him, merging with the barrier.
The enemy watched, intrigued, but his confidence did not waver. He believed the mist would consume Yuta before he could launch any other meaningful attack. However, the young shinobi was preparing an even more dangerous technique, one that channeled his last chakra reserves.
Suddenly, Yuta leapt forward, accelerating towards his opponent with lightning speed. The water barrier contracted, enveloping his body, becoming a liquid armor that protected him as he lunged into the dark mist.
"Water Release: Water Dragon!" he exclaimed, his voice resonating with a deep echo.
The enemy barely had time to react. Yuta's chakra exploded outwards in the form of a colossal dragon, made entirely of pure, dense water. The dragon merged with the barrier and Yuta's body, forming a powerful figure that charged forward without stopping. The black mist tried to envelop the dragon, but every time it touched it, the water momentarily solidified, protecting Yuta and weakening the dark technique.
"What...?" The enemy faltered for the first time, watching as the aquatic creature charged at him, breaking the field of darkness he had created.
The water dragon, with Yuta at its core, collided directly with the dark shinobi. A titanic explosion echoed throughout the valley. The impact raised a massive wave of water that swept away the black mist and rock formations, dissolving the enemy-manipulated environment.
For an instant, silence covered the battlefield. Yuta landed heavily, his technique fading away after the attack. He was exhausted, his breathing ragged, but his stance remained firm. His gaze locked on the spot where the enemy had been standing.
The dark figure was gone, but not entirely. As the water cleared, the dark shinobi appeared, kneeling, his cloak in tatters and blood pouring from a wound in his side. Though he had survived the impact, he was badly injured, his chakra reduced to a fraction of what it was before.
"Impossible…" the enemy muttered, panting. "How could you…? My mist… it covers everything…"
Yuta, staggering, trudged closer. His body was on the verge of collapse, but he would not allow his enemy to recover. He knew he could not give him a second chance.
"You underestimated yourself," Yuta said, his voice hoarse but firm. "I am not just a shinobi who follows orders. I fight to protect what I believe in. And that will always give me the strength to overcome even the darkest of techniques."
The enemy looked up, his eyes shining with a mix of surprise and respect. For the first time, he seemed to recognize Yuta's strength. His hands, shaking, relaxed, and the dark chakra surrounding him began to slowly fade away.
"You are… stronger than I thought," he said, letting out a bitter laugh. "Perhaps… in another life, we would have been allies."
With those last words, the enemy completely collapsed, his body falling limply onto the soaked ground. Yuta watched for a moment, reassuring himself that the threat was over. The air felt clear again, free of the oppressive fog that had covered the area.
The battle was over. But Yuta, on the verge of unconsciousness, knew that there were more challenges ahead. Before he could reflect on what had happened, his body gave out, and he fell to the ground, completely exhausted.
