Chapter 7: Chapter 5: The Path of Fog...2
The mysterious figure began using genjutsu on his body but quickly cut the surface of his finger in time to dodge the shadowy subject's attacks.
The blood running down Yuta's finger allowed him to momentarily regain control of his mind, dispelling the genjutsu before it managed to fully ensnare him. The mist continued to dance around him, but had now grown denser, almost impenetrable. The attacker, barely visible, slipped through it like a shadow, always at the periphery of his vision.
"So you have training in breaking illusions," the figure murmured, his voice reverberating in the mist. "But it won't be of much use to you here."
Yuta, aware of the danger, got into a combat stance. His mind calculated the possibilities, the blind spots, and the limitations of the terrain. The mist was dense, but not impassable, and he knew he could use it to his advantage. Kirigakure's techniques weren't just focused on brute force; They were designed to use the environment as an extension of their will.
"This isn't a simple genjutsu, is it?" Yuta asked, trying to keep his enemy talking as he analyzed his every move. "The mist… you're controlling it."
The figure tilted his head, though he was still a dark blur amidst the mist.
"You're perceptive. But make no mistake…" A flash of light reflected in his eyes before a series of shuriken emerged from the mist, aimed directly at Yuta.
With sharp reflexes, Yuta leapt back, deflecting the first ones with his kunai and evading the next ones with agility. The attack had been a decoy, and he knew it now. But before he could counterattack, the ground beneath his feet began to vibrate slightly.
"What…?" Yuta whispered, sensing a disturbance beneath the ground. He launched himself into the air just in time to avoid several wooden stakes shooting out from below, but the trap had forced him back.
The attacker was using techniques that were not common in the Kirigakure region. Earth and steam techniques. That meant he was not just an ordinary shinobi, but someone with far more complex abilities. Perhaps a user of the kekkei genkai, an extremely rare and dangerous bloodline.
Yuta landed on a high branch of a nearby tree, his breathing heavy as he tried to formulate a strategy. He knew this fight would not just be a test of physical skill, but of his ability to adapt. He needed to find a weakness, some pattern in his opponent's attacks.
The figure reappeared, closer this time, his cloak fluttering slightly beneath the mist that seemed to follow him like an extension of his being.
"The village you seek… no longer exists as you know it," the enigmatic man said. "What remains here is only a shadow of what once was." And soon you too will become a part of it.
The threat was clear, but Yuta would not be intimidated. He felt the figure was trying to undermine his resolve, to confuse him with words, but he would not fall for it.
"I don't know who you are or what your goals are," Yuta replied, "but I assure you that I will not fall so easily."
The enemy smiled beneath the hood, and suddenly, the mist began to move in more aggressive patterns. Yuta realized that something was changing. The mist was not just covering the battlefield, but was forming invisible seals in the air, advanced techniques that the shinobi had not noticed before.
Before he could react, the mist closed in on him, and this time, it was not simply to confuse his vision. It was dense, tangible, as if it had a will of its own. Pressure increased around his body, limiting his movements.
"Solid mist techniques!" Yuta thought, as he tried to move. This enemy didn't just control the mist, he manipulated it to a level that surpassed anything Yuta had faced before.
Gritting his teeth, Yuta activated his chakra, channeling it into his legs. With a burst of energy, he freed his body from the pressure, but the mist kept trying to envelop him.
"This can't continue like this," he told himself. He needed a quick solution or he would be draining his energy too quickly.
With a quick movement, he threw a kunai in the direction of the hooded figure, but he didn't expect it to hit its mark. Instead, he used it as a distraction while he performed a quick hand seal.
"Water Displacement Technique!" he muttered.
His body vanished in a spray of water just as the mist caught him again, and he reappeared several meters away, in an advantageous position.
The hooded man bowed his head in a slight nod of approval.
—Interesting… but it's still not enough.
Before Yuta could respond, he felt a new surge of chakra in the air. This time, the figure extended both hands, and the earth began to tremble violently. Several pillars of rock emerged from the ground, as if the earth itself was responding to the attacker's will. Yuta barely had time to dodge them.
The battle continued, but Yuta was beginning to realize that he was being dragged into terrain where he couldn't win. He knew he had to change the rules of the game before it was too late.
And so, as the enemy prepared another attack, Yuta made a risky decision. He knew he couldn't face him head-on in this environment. He needed something else.
"If I can't beat you here... I'll face you somewhere else," Yuta whispered as he brought his hands together in a final seal.
"Field Dissolution Technique!"
The mist and ground began to shake, as Yuta channeled all his energy into distorting the terrain. The mist briefly dispersed, and the enemy looked around in surprise.
It was their chance.

With a flash of determination, Yuta executed his Field Dissolution Technique, forcing the mist to momentarily dissipate. The air cleared enough for him to see the enemy standing there, eyes shining in surprise, though still covered by his dark cloak.
The surroundings swayed, as if space itself was beginning to break apart. The enemy's techniques, which manipulated both the mist and the ground, depended on the control of that terrain. Yuta had understood: his opponent was using the environment to his advantage, but if he altered the conditions, he could break that control.
"Interesting strategy," the enemy commented, not losing his cool, "but it won't change anything."
Yuta knew he couldn't trust his opponent's words. He leapt towards one of the nearby rock formations, keeping his guard up. His eyes focused on the movements of the figure, who now seemed to be evaluating his next move. They both knew the battle was at a critical point.
However, something changed in his enemy's stance. The aura around him grew more intense, and Yuta felt a wave of dense chakra emanating from the figure. This dark shinobi still had more tricks up his sleeve.
"If you've realized my control of the environment… then it's already too late for you," the man said, raising a hand to the sky.
The ground beneath Yuta's feet trembled violently. The vibrations intensified, and suddenly, plumes of steam began to rise from the ground. Around him, the ground he had attempted to distort crumbled and reformed, becoming unstable. Yuta barely dodged a steam explosion, but realized he was losing control.
"He's using steam techniques now!" he thought quickly as he landed again, panting. The chakra flowing through the air was overwhelming, but he wouldn't give up.
Yuta assessed the situation. The enemy had revealed his power with steam, which meant he had mastery over multiple elements, an extremely rare ability. But if his Field Dissolution Technique had had any effect, it was in dispersing the mist. That gave him a small window to act.
"It's my turn," Yuta whispered, performing several hand seals in quick succession. His chakra flowed through him, filling his body with energy.
"Water Technique: Water Dragon!" he shouted as he summoned a gigantic dragon made of pure water.
The dragon roared and charged towards the dark figure, tearing through the air in fury. The aquatic creature collided with the opponent amidst the remaining dense mist, exploding in an immense wave that swept away the earth and plumes of steam.
For a moment, everything was silent. Yuta, still in combat stance, watched intently at the remains of the explosion. The mist had been dispelled, but he couldn't be complacent. He knew his enemy wouldn't be defeated so easily.
Suddenly, a shadow emerged from the center of the explosion. The enemy was still standing, though his cloak was torn and there was a certain fatigue in his posture.
"You are persistent, Child," the figure said, his voice now deeper. "But this will be the end of you."
Yuta noticed something different in the enemy's tone. It was as if the fight had gone from a test to a fight for survival. The enemy performed a series of seals, faster than Yuta could keep up. The air around him began to fill with a dark, heavy energy.
"Forbidden technique: Black fog of the abyss!" the enemy shouted, and immediately, a dense, almost tangible, black fog began to pour out of his body. The darkness covered everything, absorbing light and sound.
Yuta felt the pressure increase again, but this time, the sensation was different. This fog didn't just block sight or movement, it seemed to suck out the chakra from the surroundings. Yuta's skin began to tingle as he felt his chakra slowly draining away.
"Damn!" he thought. He knew that If he didn't escape from that fog, his life energy would be depleted in a matter of minutes. The enemy had stopped playing around, and was now going for the finishing blow.
With the little time he had left, Yuta channeled the rest of his chakra, focusing it on one last desperate technique. He couldn't just escape. He had to hit with everything he had.
"Water Release: Water Barrier!" Yuta shouted, forming a shield of pure water around himself, strong enough to repel the dark fog.
The water shone with a blue glow, clashing against the dark fog that tried to consume him. The clash of elemental energies illuminated the battlefield, and the pressure of both techniques was palpable.
"I won't let you finish me off here," Yuta said, his voice firm.
The enemy watched, his face now partially visible under his hood, displaying a dangerous smile. Both combatants knew that the next move would determine the final outcome of this confrontation.
Yuta, with his last reserve of energy, advanced towards the enemy, his water barrier still standing, ready to end the battle once and for all.
