Chapter 41: Chapter 41: Shocking the Crowd, The Four Blossoms of Konoha
Upon arriving at the registration point on the third floor, Team 8 handed over their application forms to the staff, who then provided them with their test room assignments and seat numbers.
After leaving the administrative building, Yagyu and his team headed to the academic building.
Throughout the journey, Yagyu noticed that Team 7 and Team 10, as well as Might Guy's team, were nowhere in sight. It was unclear whether they had arrived early or were running late.
At the entrance of the exam room, they spotted a familiar figure—it was Kurenai Yuhi. Standing beside her were Asuma Sarutobi and Kakashi Hatake.
"Teacher Kurenai," Yagyu greeted as he approached with Hinata and Shino.
Seeing the three of them together, Kurenai stood up with a warm smile. "Seeing the three of you show up as a team makes me so happy," she said, clearly moved.
She continued, "There's another rule for the Chūnin Exams—unless a team member is incapacitated or missing, the entire squad must register to participate. You coming together shows you're unwilling to abandon your teammates. It's proof of the bond you've formed."
"No matter the outcome of this exam, I'll take you all on higher-level missions in the future," she added before placing a supportive hand on Yagyu's shoulder. Turning toward Asuma and Kakashi, she introduced them, "These two are my old classmates and elite Jōnin of Konoha. This big guy here you've met before—Sarutobi Asuma. You can call him Teacher Asuma."
"And this masked one is the 'Copy Ninja' of Konoha, Hatake Kakashi, the instructor for Team 7. You can call him Teacher Kakashi."
"Asuma-sensei, Kakashi-sensei," Yagyu, Hinata, and Shino greeted politely.
"Nice to meet you all," Asuma replied with a smile. "Ino talks about you often. I'm sure she misses you a lot. Maybe our two teams should get together more often."
His words clearly carried a subtle hint toward Kurenai, revealing his personal interest.
Hearing Ino's name brought slight smiles to Yagyu and Hinata's faces as they imagined Ino's expressions when mentioning them.
Meanwhile, Kakashi closed his book, Icha Icha Paradise, and gave Yagyu a curious look. Taller than both Hinata and Shino and almost matching Kurenai in height, Yagyu caught his interest. "So this is the top student? His presence is indeed on another level compared to our team's runner-up."
"Still, be careful," Kakashi warned with a smirk. "Our runner-up has made a lot of progress recently."
Kurenai responded proudly, "Even if your Uchiha has awakened his Sharingan, he's no match for Yagyu."
"Just wait and see, Kakashi, Asuma. My students will leave you speechless!" she said with confidence.
"Oh?" Kakashi and Asuma exchanged intrigued glances.
So confident? Could this top student be hiding something extraordinary?
"Teacher Kurenai, we're heading inside," Yagyu said, breaking her boastful moment.
"Alright, go on. Good luck in the exam," Kurenai replied with a smile.
After nodding politely to Kakashi and Asuma, Yagyu led Hinata and Shino through the exam room doors.
The atmosphere changed immediately.
The cacophony of noise, akin to a busy marketplace, hit them first. Then came waves of hostile and murderous gazes, crashing over them like a tide. Hinata and Shino instinctively tensed, their bodies alert to the danger.
"What a rude bunch," Yagyu muttered, furrowing his brows. He swept his gaze across the room, meeting the glares head-on. Behind his colored contact lenses, his Sharingan spun subtly.
The effect was immediate. Those who met his eyes recoiled in shock.
Thud. Thud. Thud.
Several people turned pale as though they had seen a ghost. Some, who had been projecting a fierce exterior but were fragile inside, collapsed to the floor in fear.
A few even screamed hysterically, "No! Don't kill me!"
The entire exam room descended into chaos.
It didn't take long for the panic to subside.
"I… I'm alive? Thank goodness, I'm alive!"
Those who had returned from the genjutsu space rejoiced, some even shedding tears of relief. It wasn't until they noticed the onlookers' stares that they realized their humiliation. They fell silent, wishing they could vanish on the spot.
Surprisingly, no one mocked them.
Instead, the remaining examinees regarded Yagyu with wary eyes. Those who had escaped his genjutsu swallowed nervously, their fear evident.
"Mass genjutsu… Who is this guy?"
"I saw my own death just now. My teacher once used this kind of genjutsu on me. It's a B-rank technique called Naraka Sight. But this guy didn't even form a seal!"
"I know who he is. He's the top student of this year's class in Konoha. Even the Uchiha survivor in his class couldn't beat him."
"If we encounter him during the exams, we're running!"
Under Yagyu's overwhelming aura, the once-chaotic room turned eerily quiet, with only faint whispers breaking the silence.
Squeak.
The door creaked open again.
"Yagyu, Hinata! Long time no see!" came a familiar, energetic voice.
Before Yagyu could turn, a weight pressed against his back, forcing him to lean forward slightly. Arms wrapped around his neck from behind as someone clung to him.
Only one person would be so bold.
"Good to see you, Ino," Yagyu said, gently prying her arms off and setting her down.
Taking in her high ponytail and bangs covering one eye, Yagyu noted her growth. "Ino, have you gotten taller?"
"Ehehe, you noticed?" she replied with a cheerful smile, striking a playful pose. "I've grown three centimeters in the past few months!"
She turned to compare her height to Hinata, but froze mid-step. Her gaze locked onto Hinata's chest.
"Yagyu, long time no see!" another voice called.
Looking up, Yagyu spotted Sakura Haruno running toward him, her pink hair flowing behind her. Naruto and Sasuke followed close behind.
"Good to see you, Sakura," Yagyu greeted with a raised hand.
Unlike Ino, Sakura kept her greeting more reserved. Seeing Yagyu respond, her smile brightened. Turning to greet her friends, she began, "Ino, Hinata, it's been so long—"
Her voice trailed off, her eyes fixed on Hinata's chest.
What?!
Three months ago, it wasn't this exaggerated!
Sakura glanced down at her own chest, which barely cast a shadow, and froze in place, cracks forming in her confidence. That was the sound of her heart breaking.
"Ino, let's talk privately," she whispered, dragging Hinata aside. The two began whispering frantically, with Sakura soon joining.
Watching the trio, Yagyu scanned the room and found another familiar face—a girl with a bun hairstyle observing them from afar.
At last, the four blossoms of Konoha were gathered in one place.
