Chapter 40: Chapter 40: Contrast and Beauty, Two Great Gatekeepers
For the next few days, Yagyu stayed holed up at home, even sending his shadow clones to buy groceries. He remained inside the house all day, and it was unclear what he was up to.
During this time, the central streets of Konoha saw a large number of unfamiliar faces. These were all lower-ranked ninjas from various other countries, specifically here to participate in the upcoming Chuunin Exams.
After arriving in Konoha, these ninjas didn't waste any time. They were using all sorts of methods to gather information about the lower-ranked ninjas from the past few years of the exams.
As the top graduate of Konoha's 60th graduating class, Yagyu naturally became one of their targets. Whether he was at home or out shopping with a shadow clone, Yagyu noticed many eyes spying on him.
However, since they hadn't yet dared to break into his home, Yagyu didn't pay them much mind.
During this period, Ino and the other two girls hadn't come to visit Yagyu. Clearly, they were all preparing for the upcoming Chuunin Exams. Sakura seemed a bit more relaxed, but Ino and Hinata, as heirs of prestigious ninja clans, were undergoing rigorous training under their elders, practicing their family's secret techniques.
If they were eliminated too early, it would be a disgrace to their families. This was a matter of family honor.
Ino had it easier, as her father, Inoichi, wasn't as strict. However, Hinata was definitely having a hard time these past few days under the intense training of the Hyuuga clan.
July 1st, 10:50 AM.
After a few days of staying at home, Yagyu finally stepped out.
He arrived at the usual meeting spot for Team 8, and from a distance, he saw Hinata already waiting there. She had her hands in the pockets of her white coat, her small face serious as she vigilantly scanned her surroundings.

Instead of greeting Hinata right away, Yagyu reached into his black coat, secretly opening his space pocket to take out a film camera and snapped a picture of her current appearance.
The sound of the camera caught Hinata's attention, and she immediately shot a sharp gaze toward Yagyu.
But when she saw who it was, her previously fierce expression quickly softened, and her demeanor became noticeably more timid. A blush appeared on her cheeks, and she instinctively lowered her head. Her hands emerged from her pockets, nervously fiddling with her fingers in front of her chest, which was already quite prominent and a source of envy among their peers.

Instead of stopping, Yagyu continued snapping photos, capturing every moment of her flustered state. If there had been more time, he would have loved to rush home and develop the pictures immediately.
After taking the photos, Yagyu put the camera away and walked up to Hinata, giving her a thumbs-up.
"Hinata, you looked really cool just now. Your presence was totally different, you've clearly grown a lot in the past few days."
"Yagyu-kun, you're exaggerating." Hinata muttered, barely above a whisper.
But deep down, her heart felt as sweet as honey.
"Be more confident, don't always lower your head," Yagyu said as he gently patted her fragrant shoulder. "I prefer the way you were just now."
"…Mm."
Hinata responded quietly and then slowly raised her head. However, she still couldn't bring herself to make direct eye contact with Yagyu. Instead, she kept darting her eyes around nervously, her blush deepening. The most endearing part was that, without realizing it, her hands were constantly tapping her fingers together in front of her chest, betraying her nervousness.
If Yagyu hadn't known her limit had already been reached, he might have taken another photo of this moment.
The somewhat awkward atmosphere was soon interrupted.
"Sorry, I'm late."
The voice of Aburame Shino startled both Yagyu and Hinata. Looking over, they saw Shino standing nearby, hands in her pockets, striking a cool pose.
"Shino, when did you get here?" Yagyu asked.
"I arrived while you were taking pictures of Hinata. I didn't want to disturb you." Shino said nonchalantly.
At that, Hinata's face turned even redder, and her head seemed to steam with embarrassment.
Clear throat.
Seeing that Hinata was on the verge of passing out from embarrassment, Yagyu quickly cleared his throat and changed the subject. "Since everyone's here, let's head to the ninja school. Did you bring your application forms?"
"Yes, we're ready," Hinata and Shino both nodded.
"Great," Yagyu grinned. "Let's go meet some of our senior ninjas and see the other genin from the other villages."
Thus, Team 8 set off for the ninja school.
On their way, they saw several genin from other villages. These genin gave Team 8 fierce looks, almost as if they were trying to intimidate them with their gaze.
However, Yagyu merely glanced at them, and in that instant, the hostile ninjas' faces went blank.
It took them a moment to snap out of their trance, drenched in cold sweat.
"Gen... Genjutsu? How did I fall for a genjutsu?"
"Who... who is that guy?"
"Remember his face. If you run into him during the exams, just run away!"
Yagyu, unaware of their panic, had simply given them a brief lesson to remind them who was in charge in this arena.
Entering the ninja school, Team 8 made their way to the registration point to submit their application forms.
At the stairway entrance, they saw a sign indicating the registration desk was on the third floor.
But when they reached the second floor, their expressions suddenly changed.
Exchanging a glance, they quickly raised their fingers to their faces and disrupted the flow of chakra within their bodies, expelling the Yin chakra that had just infiltrated them.
They realized that they had entered a genjutsu. The genin around them, all looking for the registration desk, were subconsciously tricked into believing the second floor was the third.
At the staircase connecting the second and third floors, the sign still said "third floor" and two middle-ranked ninjas, both wearing green vests, were watching the genin with amusement.
These two middle-ranked ninjas were none other than the two great gatekeepers of Konoha: Kamizuki Izumo and Gōshi Tetsu.
Ignoring them, Yagyu, Hinata, and Shino walked toward the stairs guarded by the two middle-ninjas.
Seeing them approach, Izumo and Tetsu were mildly surprised, but upon noticing Hinata's Byakugan, they realized what had happened.
It was no wonder they could break the illusion—Hinata's Byakugan could see through the "Mugen: Not Here" genjutsu.
However, such cheating wasn't something they would condone.
Just as Izumo and Tetsu were about to give a silent nod to each other and prepare to challenge the newcomers, Yagyu and his team walked past them with no issue.
When Izumo and Tetsu finally snapped out of their daze, they realized the genin had vanished without a trace.
"Did you notice that, Izumo?" Tetsu asked, still wide-eyed.
Izumo shook his head, "No, did you?"
"I didn't either."
Tetsu looked horrified, "There was no sound, so it couldn't have been an auditory genjutsu. No smell... it wasn't an olfactory one either. And he didn't even make any hand signs!"
Izumo suddenly laughed. "To break a genjutsu with just a glance... this Chuunin Exam is going to be interesting."
"Heh, he's a genin from Konoha. If his genjutsu skills are already this impressive, he might even become Konoha's next genjutsu expert."
Tetsu chuckled. "I'm really looking forward to seeing if there are any other hidden geniuses among the genin this year."
