Chapter 71: The Itachi Bullying Arc
Over the years, the Fourth Mizukage had grown more ruthless. Anyone who disagreed with his political stance was either crushed under his heel or quietly erased.
His methods had become colder, more brutal especially toward the Kaguya and Terumi clans.
The Terumi clan had defected entirely.
The Kaguya clan had been booted from the political center and shoved to the outskirts like trash.
"I know your character. That's why I trust you."
Kisame glanced at Yagura, who stared back expressionlessly.
"Only you...someone who's carried out countless dirty missions for the country and village, who's betrayed others over and over to complete those missions, only you understand that this world is nothing but a lie."
Kisame's eyes shifted slightly before he replied, slow and low:
"That truth? I understood it the first time I killed my own comrades.
I'm a Mist ninja… but I'm ordered to kill Mist ninja. So… who am I?
Am I friend or foe to the Mist?
What's my purpose?
Where do I stand?
Where am I going?
Where can I even find peace?"
He gave a bitter smirk that didn't reach his eyes. "The only thing I know is my own falsehood."
Yeah… this was a man broken by years of "cleaning up his own people."
Day after day of betraying comrades, being betrayed in turn, all while drowning in the hypocrisy of it... it left him disgusted, numb, desperate to escape the real world.
No wonder in the anime, when Obito dangled Infinite Tsukuyomi in front of him, Kisame practically jumped into the leash.
Infinite Tsukuyomi… most people would scoff at the idea. But Kisame? He didn't even hesitate. He wanted the fake dream.
Hidden in the shadows, Obito silently observed… then sighed.
That being the case...
He stepped forward, materializing behind Yagura.
The sudden presence made Kisame's grip tighten on Samehada.
"I'll free you from that false suffering," Obito said evenly. "I'll build a place for you."
This was someone Obito wanted badly Kisame's loyalty was off the charts once earned.
But Kisame wasn't stupid. He stayed on guard, blade ready. "Who are you?"
Obito ignored the suspicion. "Let's start with this country. You've always fought to kill your comrades. From now on...you'll fight as my comrade."
That alone wasn't enough to drop Kisame's guard.
"You seem to trust me… yet I don't even know who you are."
Obito's eyes shut for a moment, then reopened...scarlet and spinning.
The Sharingan.
Kisame blinked, then slowly released his grip on the hilt, lips curling into a cold smile.
"I see. So everyone thinks the Fourth Mizukage leads this village… but it's been you all along."
"I didn't expect someone to actually manipulate a Mizukage with the Sharingan."
In an instant, the strange shifts in Yagura's rule made perfect sense to him.
"This world really is fake…" he muttered, half to himself.
His gaze sharpened. "Still, who are you, to have the visual prowess to control the Three-Tails Jinchūriki?"
"Uchiha… Madara," Obito said flatly, pulling out the Madara cosplay yet again.
Kisame's eyes went wide, then narrowed coldly. "That great man's been dead for years. I can't trust you. Show me your real face."
"…"
Okay… what the actual fuck? Why does this never work? In the anime, nobody's IQ went this high.
Obito resisted the urge to rub his temples. I miss Nagato. That guy believed whatever came out of my mouth.
"It's fine. Believe me or not...that's your choice. I'm nothing but a dream, if you want to think of it that way."
He stepped forward, slow and deliberate, the tomoe in his Sharingan beginning to turn.
Kisame's surroundings shifted. Reality peeled away into illusion.
When the genjutsu shattered, Kisame was breathing heavier, eyes locked on Obito.
"…Are you serious about this?" he asked at last, voice low.
"Yes, that's my plan," Obito said calmly.
"Think about it...why do you think the world is false?"
Kisame stayed silent, listening.
"Endless killing. Cannibalism. Day after day of deception and betrayal."
"And what's the reason for all of it?"
"It's the conflict of interest between countries. If information leaks, a nation's interests are damaged so they kill their own people to protect them."
Obito paused, watching Kisame with a faint, almost playful look.
"Don't you think… there are too many countries in this world?"
Kisame's eyes narrowed. "…So?"
"So… all this world needs is one country."
"One voice."
"One goal."
Kisame's grin widened, repeating the words like they tasted good on his tongue.
"Ninjas wouldn't have to fight each other anymore. No more betrayal. I want to see that kind of world… I want to see it…" His grin stretched further, the anticipation raw on his face.
"It's unbelievable… yet so beautiful," he added.
"Don't worry," Obito assured him. "I'll let you see it."
"Oh? Didn't Mr. Madara say such a thing would take generations? I won't live that long."
"You don't have to worry about that. Ever heard of the Reanimation Jutsu?"
"Reanimation?" Kisame's brow furrowed.
Obito explained Edo Tensei from start to finish...its origin, its conditions, its potential.
"I see… a terrifying jutsu indeed. The Second Hokage really was a legendary man." Kisame chuckled darkly, clearly impressed.
Then he gave a shark-toothed grin. "In the future, please advise me… Mr. Madara."
"Hm."
The corners of Obito's mouth lifted slightly.
"From today, you're one of the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist. You'll stay in the village for now. When the organization is ready, I'll bring you in."
"Got it."
Kisame followed Yagura out, his heavy footsteps fading into the distance.
Obito stretched his arms above his head, feeling the faint pop of his joints.
Very good. Another tool man secured.
More and more chess pieces were falling into place.
Next…
"Uchiha Itachi," he murmured, lowering his hand. "It's time for you to feel the love from your Senpai."
A faint smirk tugged at his lips. "Hn… just think of it as a birthday gift. I'll help you awaken your Sharingan. Hope you'll like it…"
