Chapter 70: How to Train Your Uchiha
"Is it difficult to do Sage Arts?"
Yugao looked a little confused, so she asked.
Terumi Mei on the side also glanced over.
"..."
Obito was speechless.
Well, this should be expected, these two aren't very old, they don't have much experience, and their knowledge is still limited. It's normal for them not to know about Sage Arts.
"Jiraiya, one of the Three Sannin, is a user of Sage Arts," Pakura said, taking over the conversation.
In the past, there were people in the Sand Village who had signed a contract with Ryūchi Cave, one of the three unexplored sage regions, so naturally the Sand Village had records on Sage Arts.
Given her previous status, Pakura had naturally heard of it.
She then took on the role of teacher, explaining in detail the power of Sage Arts, as well as the dangers of learning it.
"What should be added," Obito interrupted, "is that Orochimaru is also a contractor of Ryūchi Cave. Orochimaru, one of the Three Sannin."
"In fact, Ryūchi Cave, Mount Myōboku, and Shikkotsu Forest are known as the three holy places of the Summoning World. All three have Sage Arts inheritance."
"Coincidentally, the Konoha Sannin each contracted with one of the three sage regions."
"Unfortunately, among the three, Orochimaru and Tsunade failed to learn Sage Arts. Only Jiraiya managed to do it… isn't he the self-proclaimed Toad Sage? That's because he learned Mount Myōboku's Sage Art—though he's only a half-ass at it."
"I see!"
After listening to Obito's explanation, they all looked at the scrolls in their hands with sparkling eyes.
Sannin...now that's a big name.
Later, Obito began to teach them.
"That's right Yugao, bring this scroll to Chihori."
In the evening, just as the three girls were about to leave, Obito tossed another scroll to Yugao.
"This is also Sage Art?" Yugao asked, looking at the scroll in her hands.
"It's medical ninjutsu," Obito said lazily, stretching.
"She's always idle sometimes, so give her something to pass the time and a sense of participation.
"Karin is already two years old; she doesn't need to be taken care of like a baby anymore. There isn't much housekeeping in the fortress either.
"So let her learn medical ninjutsu, have her read more medical books in the study."
"Got it."
Yugao looked a bit surprised, but nodded and left with the scroll.
You have to know Obito had transformed a huge study inside the fortress, storing the Land of Snow's entire collection of books, Mist Village's ninjutsu materials, and Konoha's ninjutsu archives.
Ordinary people could never get in.
In fact, only a handful in the Land of Snow were even allowed to enter the fortress.
For Karin's mother, Obito had no plans of making her a combatant.
Instead, he'd train her in medical ninjutsu so she could serve in logistics.
---
After the three girls left, Obito looked toward the ground to the side.
"Come out."
As soon as he spoke, a white Zetsu emerged.
"What is it?" Obito asked calmly.
"That Uchiha Itachi you told me to watch, he graduated from the Ninja Academy early. Oh, he's a genius.
"Captain, you told me to report when he became a ninja."
White Zetsu leaned against the wall trying to act cool, making Obito's eye twitch slightly.
"Got it."
Obito nodded and stood up.
"Uchiha Itachi… we'll meet soon. You'd better be ready to accept your love from your Senpai," Obito said with a flash in his eyes.
"Did someone say Senpai's love?" a sudden voice cut in.
Zetsu and Obito turned toward the sound, sure enough, it was Tobi.
"Ne, ne, Captain, did you say we'd show Senpai love? To who? Where? Should I bring a gift box full of poop?" Tobi rushed forward, grabbing Obito by the shoulders and shaking him.
"Get off me, you bastard! You still have the guts to appear in front of me after I spared your life four times because Zetsu begged for you?" Obito smacked Tobi across the face, sending him to the ground.
Lying on the floor, Tobi struck a dramatic pose and spoke in a fake, choking voice, "Captain… just like you said… People's dreams… have no end. I… I can never give up my dream. I am destined for greatness. Being gay can't stop me!!"
Silence.
The room went dead quiet.
Zetsu instinctively stepped away from Obito, who was shaking slightly, and gave Tobi the kind of look you'd give a certified retard.
"Tobi…" Obito's voice was low. Dangerously low. The kind of tone that made even hardened shinobi start writing their wills in advance.
"You…" He stepped closer, his shadow falling over the idiot sprawled on the floor. "You think you're destined for greatness?"
Tobi, still lying on his back, said
"Captain… just like you said… people's dreams… have no end. And my dream… is to live life my way! And also… to become your second-in-command, your life partner"
"But don't worry, Captain… I won't make a move on you. I respect you… in a totally non-romantic, please-don't-kill-me way."
Silence.
The room went still again. Zetsu instinctively watched Obito like a man keeping a cautious eye on an active volcano.
Obito's eye twitched so hard it looked like it might start vibrating. "…Zetsu. Move."
"Gladly." Zetsu immediately retreated to the wall like a man avoiding a grenade with the pin already pulled.
Obito reached down, grabbed Tobi by the mask, and hauled him up like he weighed nothing. "Listen, you degenerate cosplay accident… your 'dream' ends the moment I decide it ends."
Tobi tilted his head innocently. "So… you do care about my dream?"
SMACK!
Obito flung him across the room. Tobi hit the wall, slid down, and gave a muffled thumbs-up from the floor.
"Worth it… Captain noticed me…"
Obito massaged the bridge of his nose. "Why do I keep sparing this idiot?"
"Because," Zetsu said completely deadpan
"Deep down, you like having someone dumber than you in the room."
Obito glared. "…Keep talking and you're going in the poop gift box."
Zetsu wisely shut up.
With his blood pressure settling from "Tobi exposure," Obito's mind shifted to business.
For the Uchiha clan, he had three goals.
First target: not Uchiha Itachi. Instead his younger brother, the reincarnation of Indra Uchiha Sasuke.
Compared to Asura's reincarnation, Sasuke was much easier to manipulate. Black Zetsu had fooled Madara into becoming the perfect tool, Obito could learn a thing or two from that.
The Obito from the anime never truly fooled Sasuke. That didn't mean he couldn't do it now.
After all, Indra and Asura were practically born to "love and kill each other."
Second target: Shisui Uchiha.
Shisui's eyes were far too valuable to be wasted on Danzo or Itachi. Better that Shisui "gift" them to Obito… politely.
Third target: the entire Uchiha clan.
They would be his nourishment to evolve his Sharingan.
The Uchiha Clan Massacre had to happen whether or not he directly participated.
Konoha would move against them eventually, just like in the anime, but Obito would make sure nothing disrupted the event.
As for Uchiha Itachi? In Obito's eyes, just another clown. Bound by the village his whole life, even admitting later that his decisions were hasty.
To Obito, Uchiha Itachi is nothing more than a tool to push Sasuke's growth. And if Sasuke is to become a proper tool himself, Itachi's survival is essential.
Likewise, Itachi's own growth hinges on the death of his beloved senpai, Shisui.
Just like in the anime, Obito planned to slaughter his teammates right in front of Itachi, helping him awaken the Sharingan.
But this time, he'd make Itachi and his teammates closer first.
When the bond was strong, the emotional impact would be devastating, perfect for pushing the Sharingan to evolve.
No strong bond, no intense trigger… no awakening.
Time passed. Another year came and went.
Land of Water — Mist Village
In a dimly lit basement, blood pooled on the stone floor. The glint of a blade flashed in the dark.
"Kisame… you…"
A fat man wearing a Mist forehead protector lay in the crimson puddle, several chained blades impaled through his body.
A blue-skinned, shark-faced shinobi stood over him. Without emotion, Kisame discarded the blood-stained knife and bent down to retrieve a massive blade wrapped in white cloth from the corpse. He slung it over his back.
"Good work, Kisame."
The voice made the shark-man tense. He turned sharply, muscles coiled, ready for a fight.
Footsteps echoed in the darkness. Da… da… da…
"I figured he'd lower his guard around you as a subordinate. Still, you did a splendid job."
"That man was a mole… digging into his own village. Removing him was the right choice."
"From now on, you are the master of Samehada" the voice paused briefly,
"...and my loyal subordinate."
From the shadows, a small figure stepped forward into the dim light.
Kisame's wary expression faded. A grin spread across his face as he straightened.
"It would be my honour… Fourth Mizukage-sama."
