Chapter 67: CHAPTER 66 - Heading to the Black Market

"Please present your Mission credentials. I will record them here," said Hyuga Mirai. After receiving the task scroll from the Chunin in front of him and glancing at it, he handed it back.

"A B-rank patrol mission, the patrol area is the southern region of Iwagakure, in the Land of Rivers, with a four-person team. A total of 120 shurikens, 40 kunai, 32 explosive tags, and emergency medical supplies such as bandages are listed. This is the inventory."

Hyuga Mirai followed the process, having the other party sign and record the details before handing over the requested ninja tools.

Once the Chunin team left, Hyuga Mirai finally had a chance to rest for a while. The reconnaissance actions by Sunagakure had been becoming more frequent, so Konoha had to send out many patrol and anti-infiltration squads daily. Orochimaru's surprise forces might be able to attack Sunagakure, but he wasn't willing to be ambushed by their surprise teams either.

They had set up two layers of surveillance and defense lines outside the camp, with shifts happening every day. Although this made their presence quite obvious, it greatly improved the security of the Konoha camp. High-ranking ninjas like Nara Shikaku and Namikaze Minato agreed with this approach—after all, if Sunagakure's ambushes succeeded, Konoha would lose too much.

Orochimaru's actions had a slight selfish streak as well. The more missions he issued, the more supplies were consumed, and it made things easier for Hyuga Mirai. Nearly a month had passed, and more than half of the military supplies had already been used up, with one-third of them tucked away in the sealed scrolls and the stomach of Orochimaru's snake.

Using corrosion-resistant metals to pack the materials allowed him to summon and transfer them using Shadow Clones. Although this was a bit troublesome, Hyuga Mirai already had enough stockpiled. If he didn't make a move soon, he would have to create another storage location.

"Summoning Jutsu!"

After activating his Byakugan and confirming there was no one around, Hyuga Mirai summoned the small purple snake. He instructed it, "Go check on Orochimaru for me."

The purple snake had grown smarter and could understand Hyuga Mirai's commands and even express its own ideas. After receiving the task, the snake immediately burrowed into the ground, heading toward Orochimaru's location.

Hyuga Mirai had been holding back for so long, and the urge to create a biomechanical assistant was becoming overwhelming. He had optimized the design to its fullest potential, but because of the war, he was bound to stay in the camp. It made him feel restless.

A while later, a ninja approached and informed him, "Chunin Hyuga Mirai, Lord Orochimaru has summoned you."

"Understood, I will head there now."

Hyuga Mirai thought to himself that he could finally leave. After organizing the scrolls and sealing them up, he told the ninja on duty and left the area.

Upon reaching Orochimaru's tent, he noticed that fewer people were inside this time—only Nara Shikamaru, Namikaze Minato, and Orochimaru were present. Perhaps the other high-ranking ninjas had gone on missions. Hyuga Mirai thought to himself, given the increasing number of attacks from Sunagakure, it wouldn't be long before they launched a full assault.

"Mirai-kun, you've done a great job organizing the military supplies. Your records are very clear," Orochimaru greeted him with a smile. His expression then turned slightly more serious. "Now, there is a task that requires your expertise. After all, no one else in the front camp is more suited for this than you."

Hyuga Mirai had already suspected this, but still feigned ignorance, asking, "Is it related to military supplies? Logically, the next batch of supplies should have already departed, but there has been no word so far."

Minato showed a slight look of surprise and remarked, "As expected of Mirai-kun, your observational skills are impressive."

Hyuga Mirai humbly smiled and replied, "I'm flattered, Minato-sensei. After all, I've been dealing with military supplies every day."

Orochimaru interrupted the exchange and said, "Mirai-kun, your mission is to go to the capital of the Land of Fire and cooperate with the local ninjas to procure military supplies. After all, you are most familiar with how many supplies the camp requires."

"I understand. For this mission..."

"It's a C-rank solo mission. Mirai-kun, you should leave right away," Orochimaru concluded.

"Understood. Thank you, Lord Orochimaru!" Hyuga Mirai gave a smile that only he and Orochimaru understood.

After receiving the task scroll, Hyuga Mirai returned to complete the handover of the military supplies, as Kiyo Hyuga and Kurenai Yuhi were out on missions and left no message. The handover took less than ten minutes, and Hyuga Mirai, with the mission scroll in hand, departed from the Konoha camp.

"Finally, I'm out. But there isn't much time. Looks like I'll need to use Shadow Clones," Hyuga Mirai thought calmly. Given the short duration of the mission, he couldn't afford to waste time going to the black market before meeting with the team in the Land of Fire. If he went there first, he might not have enough time for the black market.

To manage both tasks, he had no choice but to use Shadow Clones.

There shouldn't be much danger in the Land of Fire's capital, so Hyuga Mirai decided to send three clones there to complete the task, essentially creating a few more safety nets. If one clone was accidentally dispelled, there would still be two left. If two clones were knocked out, he would report to Konoha that unknown forces were targeting the military supply officers in the Land of Rivers.

The reason was sound—if the Third Hokage inquired about the use of Shadow Clones, he could say he was working alone in a high-risk environment, and prioritizing caution was necessary.

After settling on the plan, Hyuga Mirai formed hand signs and released three Shadow Clones.

"Shadow Clone Jutsu!"

Now, Hyuga Mirai's chakra reserves were even greater than that of most Jonin, and he still felt like he was growing. By the time he was in his early twenties, his chakra would reach its peak. Currently, the chakra he allocated to his clones would last for about seven days, which was perfect for the mission's timeline.

Once the clones left, Hyuga Mirai headed toward the place where he had buried the military supplies. Over the past period, he had intercepted thousands of shurikens, kunai, explosive tags, and some other supplies. Although the amount of materials other than shurikens and kunai wasn't large, it could still fetch a good price.

When he arrived at the storage site, Hyuga Mirai immediately used Summoning Jutsu to call forth the massive snake from the Ryūchi Cave.

"Bring everything up from underground and store it in your stomach for now!"

The sealed scrolls couldn't hold so much, so it had to be kept in the snake's belly for now. With the outer layer of anti-corrosive material, it would last for a day at most.

"Time to head to the black market," Hyuga Mirai muttered, opening the black market intel that Orochimaru had given him. Some black markets were specialized task issuance locations, while others were small places that exchanged bounties, known as "exchange gold spots." The only place where a large amount of illegal goods could be bought and sold was the exchange gold spot in the Land of Waterfalls.

There, he could sell everything and then head to the black market in the Land of Grass to purchase the necessary items. Seven days was just enough.

With Hyuga Mirai's current strength, he could manage a couple of sleepless days without much trouble.
