Chapter 15: Chapter 15
The next day after the wedding, I was resting in the guest room when a sudden knock startled me. I opened the door to find Hashirama and Tobirama standing outside. I welcomed them in and offered them seats.
They exchanged a nervous glance before Hashirama, with a touch of embarrassment, pulled out a healing talisman.
"Ryu," he began, "the wedding gift you gave us was truly extraordinary. But… would you consider selling us some of these healing talismans?"
Tobirama quickly added, "Don't worry, we'll pay handsomely."
"It's not that I can't," I replied, "but they're quite difficult to produce."
I had given them the healing talismans as a wedding gift, unsure what else to offer. They were from prominent clans, wealthy and powerful, so material gifts seemed insignificant. I hoped the unique healing talismans would be appreciated.
"I only gave them as a gift because I didn't know what else to give. You both have everything. I wanted to offer something truly special."
I continued, "The truth is, creating these talismans is a delicate process. In this era of constant war and bloodshed, I prioritize saving lives over personal gain."
"I understand," Hashirama nodded. "How many do you have available right now?"
"I have a thousand," I replied.
Their eyes widened in astonishment. "A thousand?!"
After explaining the limitations of the talismans – that they couldn't heal deep wounds and often required multiple applications – they seemed to calm down.
"So, you're saying they're not a cure-all,"
Tobirama summarized. "But still incredibly valuable, especially in battle."
"Exactly," I confirmed. "Are you still interested?"
"Absolutely," Tobirama declared. "They'll be invaluable to the battlefield, especially against the Uchiha."
"Very well," I said. "Three hundred thousand for all one thousand talismans."
We then discussed the production of future batches and other matters.
"Thank you, Ryu," Hashirama said.
"You're welcome."
After lunch, we set off for Konohagakure. The journey back took half a day.
Back in the village, I pondered the future. Konohagakure was soon to be established. Should I join them? Should I remain independent? A lone village, like the Uzumaki clan, could easily be destroyed by a coalition of other villages, as the Uzumaki clan tragically learned. Even Konoha, in its early days, had not come to their aid. I wasn't sure if I would live to see that day, but I didn't want to see my village fall victim to such a fate.
The creation of the healing talismans had brought prosperity, but also increased the risk of attracting unwanted attention. I decided to put those thoughts aside for now. There was still time before Konoha's founding.
I also began developing a scroll of seals, similar to those used in future Konoha, but inscribed on wood from Hashirama's own trees. I recorded numerous jutsu within it.
I decided that once Konohagakure was established, I would allow limited trade with the outside world. Our village currently relied on outside ninjas for many necessities like spices, fine clothing, and shoes. We could produce some of these ourselves, but not on the same scale.
Later, as I reviewed mission reports and ninja team progress in my office, I noticed new documents regarding families seeking to join our village.
After a long day, I returned home to find Grandma Saya preparing dinner. She smiled warmly and welcomed me, setting a place for me at the table.
"Dinner will be ready in five minutes, Ryu," she said.
We ate together, sharing stories of our day. It was a simple, peaceful moment, a reminder of the importance of family.
"It's getting late, Ryu," Grandma Saya said.
"Time for bed."
"Okay, Grandma. Good night."
"Good night."
