Chapter 82: Ch 82
Kagami looked at Itachi's bitter expression, completely speechless. In his opinion, Itachi was a paranoid psychopath, and the most disgusting thing about him was his constant talk of "peace." As if sacrificing others' lives could be justified for the sake of some abstract ideal. If Itachi were truly a great sage, perhaps it would be different. But after massacring his own clan, not only did he feel no remorse, but he also believed he had sacrificed everything for peace and that no one could understand him. You killed your own parents and clansmen and still expect others to understand you? Then who will understand the people you killed?
Though some members of the Uchiha clan may have deserved to die, many were innocent. Itachi had killed them all without reason and then had the audacity to demand understanding for his "pain." Kagami had never encountered such a mentally disturbed individual. And what made him even more speechless was that in the original story, this beast had somehow been redeemed. He had murdered his father and mother, slaughtered his entire clan, and yet it was all washed away with the excuse, "I had no choice, for the sake of peace." It made Kagami marvel at the warped logic of some people. If he had such a rebellious son, he would have chopped the beast into eighteen pieces.
But then he remembered that most people in the ninja world were mentally deficient, and normal people were a rarity, and he suddenly felt too tired to complain. It was a completely different way of thinking. For such a beast, a simple death would be too merciful. Kagami had no intention of killing him easily. Physical death was a fleeting pain; mental torture could leave an indelible mark. Sometimes, living was more painful than dying. Killing Itachi directly would not satisfy the hatred in his heart.
But for now, Kagami was more concerned with Konan. He had just caused a major disturbance in the Hidden Rain Village. Shouldn't she be there, helping to recover? Why was she here?
"Konan, why are you here?" he asked, turning his gaze to her.
Konan stood there, her body trembling slightly, but she forced herself to suppress the turmoil in her heart. Her tightly pursed lips revealed her determination, and the hatred in her eyes was like a flame in the dark night, hot and dangerous. She took a deep breath, her eyes becoming extremely firm as she looked straight at Kagami, as if placing all her hopes and despair in that one look.
"Nagato is dead," she said, her voice low and hoarse, each word squeezed from between her teeth, carrying an unspeakable sorrow and anger. "I hope you can avenge him for me! As long as you can kill Uchiha Madara, I will agree to anything you say!" Her hands were clenched into fists, her nails digging so deeply into her palms that blood oozed from them, yet she was unaware. Konan knew kagami wanted to marry her. So she offered herself like that.
Nagato is dead? Kagami was a little surprised. "It seems Uchiha Madara took Nagato's Rinnegan, which led to his death," he immediately guessed. After a moment's thought, he nodded. "I can promise you that." Kagami didn't consider himself a good person. Although taking advantage of someone in distress was a bit shameful, since Konan had come to him, he would not refuse. He might be a scumbag, but he could at least guarantee that he would be good to every woman he had and would never abandon them.
Konan's silence was like the surface of a lake in the morning mist, trembling slightly before quickly returning to calm. She had some feelings for Kagami already. Although her request was born of a desire for revenge, she was not opposed to becoming his wife. She nodded slightly. "Thank you."
Kagami smiled. "Then wait a minute. You and my clone will go back to Konoha first." The coming battle with the Sage of Six Paths would be intense, and he might not have time to look after Konan.
Konan had wanted to witness Madara's death with her own eyes, but considering she might be a liability, she agreed after a moment's hesitation. "I'll wait for you to come back, Kagami," she said, her voice soft but firm, as if making a silent promise to herself and to him.
Kagami then turned his gaze back to Uchiha Itachi, his eyes flashing with a cold light, as deep as the abyss. "Hand over your Sharingan," he commanded, his voice low and powerful, like the dark clouds before a storm. "You, a traitor to the Uchiha clan, are not worthy of possessing our bloodline limit." Seizing Itachi's Mangekyō had been a plan of his for a long time, part of his own research into advancing the Sharingan. He wanted to see if he could evolve it without the chakra of Ashura and Indra. He had already found some clues, but lacked another pair of Mangekyō to experiment with. Now that he had found Itachi, he would not let this opportunity pass.
Hearing Kagami's demand, Itachi's pupils contracted, and he immediately assumed a fighting stance. The iconic red of his Sharingan instantly shifted into the pinwheel pattern of the Mangekyō. "No," he said, his voice firm. "I left these eyes for Sasuke. I cannot give them to you." He had never thought Kagami would want his Sharingan. He would have given him anything else, but these eyes were for his younger brother, to allow him to evolve his own into the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan.
Seeing this, the surrounding Konoha ninja drew their weapons, waiting for Kagami's order. "To evolve the Eternal Mangekyō, it must be between brothers," Itachi said, his face grim. "Even if you get my eyes, it will be useless to you."
Kagami's sneer deepened. "Hmph, do you think I'm negotiating with you?" The idea that the Mangekyō had to be exchanged between brothers to achieve its eternal form... Kagami didn't believe it. After all, in the original story, only two pairs of Uchiha brothers had ever achieved this. It was too small a sample size to be a definitive rule.
