Chapter 14: Benefit
Without wasting time, under Fugaku's proposal, Gen left his residence, and together they headed to a nearby training field.
Being the Uchiha one of the most prestigious clans in Konoha, there was no shortage of adequate facilities within their territory. There were numerous training fields reserved exclusively for clan members, ensuring privacy and security to practice even the most advanced jutsus.
Even so, Gen rarely used these places. He preferred to train in more secluded areas to avoid drawing attention. However, this time, he had no alternative.
By the time they arrived, the sun had almost completely set, leaving the sky dark. Despite the hour, there were still some people in the field, though the terrain was spacious enough to allow the execution of large-scale techniques without worrying about the proximity of others.
Without saying a word, Fugaku took a few steps forward and began forming seals with both hands at an impressive speed.
"Doton: Doroheki"
As soon as he finished the sequence of seals, the ground beneath his feet trembled violently. About ten meters away, three thick earth walls emerged from the ground in rapid succession, each at least seven or eight meters high.
The walls were arranged in a row, with a few meters of separation between them, creating an ideal target for the demonstration of a fire jutsu.
Finishing, he turned to Gen with an expectant expression.
"Very well, Gen. Use these three walls as a target and show me the B-Rank fire jutsu you have learned."
Gen nodded.
"No problem, then I'll start."
Without hesitation, he turned towards the three earth walls and raised both hands to chest level. In an instant, his fingers began to move precisely, forming seals at an impressive speed, almost three per second.
Fugaku's eyes sharpened with interest upon noticing the fluidity with which Gen executed the sequence.
Even among Jōnin, most could only reach a speed of three seals per second. It was not just a matter of manual dexterity; the true challenge lay in synchronizing the chakra flow with the speed of the seals.
If the chakra could not keep up with the hands, the ninjutsu would simply fail.
But Gen not only maintained the pace, he did it with a natural ease.
"Fire Release: Great Dragon Fire Technique."
There was no doubt that he would successfully execute the ninjutsu.
As soon as he completed the last hand sign, he inhaled deeply. In the next instant, a gigantic blaze burst from his mouth, quickly molding into the shape of a dragon's head made of fire.
The scorching heat was felt immediately, rippling the air around him with an overwhelming intensity. The flaming beast roared toward the walls with devastating force.
BOOM
The thick earth walls were destroyed the moment they came into contact with the dragon, as if they had been run over by a high-speed train. Chunks of rock and dust flew everywhere, scattering with the roar of the explosion.
But the most impressive thing was that, even after reducing the walls to rubble, the fire dragon did not dissipate immediately. Its destructive energy continued advancing until, finally, it extinguished dozens of meters away.
The flames left deep black marks on the ground, and the temperature in the training field rose drastically, making the atmosphere suffocating.
Although B-level jutsus were considered the foundation of advanced techniques, their power should not be underestimated—especially Fire Release ones, known for their destructive capability and lethality in combat.
For many Jōnin, a jutsu of this level represented their best offensive card.
The flawless execution of the Great Dragon Fire Technique did not necessarily mean that Gen had the full strength of a Jōnin, but his mastery of the attack was already at an impressive level.
"You have truly mastered it..."
When the fire took shape and devastated the walls, Fugaku felt a pleasant surprise within him. He did not express it in words, but the intensity in his gaze said it all.
He observed Gen with renewed interest.
At nine years old, mastering a B-Rank jutsu with such precision was not only impressive but even exceeded his expectations.
He had no personal bond with Gen beyond sharing the same surname, but that was enough. Within the Uchiha clan, talent was a symbol of pride and power, and seeing a prodigy emerging in the new generation was encouraging.
As the future leader of the clan, recognizing the potential of his own was essential, and what he had witnessed tonight confirmed something important: Gen Uchiha was not an ordinary child.
…
Half an hour later, in his home's living room.
Gen was sitting on the couch, head lowered, attentively studying a scroll he held in his hands.
Beside him, on the dining table, lay two other open scrolls. After carefully reviewing them, he let out a sigh full of emotions.
"A powerful clan is a powerful clan... Their generosity is incredible. It took me a little effort, but the benefits have been worth it."
The satisfaction on his face was evident.
Having talent alone was not enough. True growth required resources.
Being discreet had its advantages, but sometimes, displaying the right talent at the right moment brought unexpected rewards.
This was a clear example. A small risk had yielded great results.
One of the scrolls contained a B-Rank Fire Release jutsu, another a B-Rank Taijutsu technique, and the last... an A-Rank Fire Release jutsu.
These three jutsus were the recognition and support of the clan after Fugaku witnessed his mastery of the Great Dragon Fire Technique.
The B and A-Rank Fire jutsus he had received were Fire Release: Great Fire Annihilation and Great Flame Flower.
(Great Flame Flower)
The first would one day become famous in the hands of Madara Uchiha. A large-scale fire jutsu capable of creating a wave of flames so immense that it resembled a burning sea, devouring everything in its path.
The second, even more impressive, took destruction to another level. It made the user jump into the air and launch gigantic fireballs that descended like meteors.
Faced with such a gift, Gen couldn't help but feel surprised. He had not expected to receive an A-Rank jutsu.
For many Jōnin, a B-Rank jutsu was the most powerful technique they ever mastered in their entire careers. A-Rank techniques, on the other hand, were at the pinnacle of conventional jutsus. Even within the Uchiha clan, only those who achieved enough merits could gain access to an A-Rank jutsu—and even then, only when they officially became Jōnin.
Fugaku had given him Fire Release jutsus for a clear reason: his natural affinity with this element.
When Gen began to stand out at the Academy, the clan had made sure to evaluate his chakra using a chakra paper, thus recording his attributes and characteristics to better understand his potential.
As for the only Taijutsu technique he had received…
Unlike many, Gen never underestimated Taijutsu.
The three great branches of Jutsu—Ninjutsu, Taijutsu, and Genjutsu—did not follow a fixed hierarchy of power. Each was crucial in building a shinobi's strength.
That's why, upon opening the Taijutsu scroll, his gaze became more serious.
No matter how impressive his fire mastery was, he had no intention of neglecting his hand-to-hand combat. Every tool in his arsenal mattered.
