Chapter 12: Genius
Mizuki Ryosuke was oblivious to the deep and strategic thoughts running through Kaguya Yuta's mind. Instead, he was taken aback by the raw strength Yuta had displayed.
'Jōnin level strength is truly something else,' Ryosuke thought to himself.
However, Mizuki Ryosuke's understanding of Jōnin strength was skewed. While it was true that Jōnin were powerful, there were still limits to their abilities.
Ryosuke had demonstrated an advanced mastery of the Water Dragon Bomb technique, managing to form forty-four hand seals in three seconds, a feat even many seasoned Jōnin couldn't accomplish.
In normal circumstances, using such a technique for a mere test strike seemed unreasonable. B-level jutsus like the Water Dragon Bomb consumed a significant amount of chakra, and the chakra capacity of most shinobi, even Jōnin, was limited.
Typically, Jōnins would avoid wasting chakra with large-scale techniques like this and would instead rely on smaller weapons or less taxing ninjutsu for a probing attack.
Mizuki Ryosuke, though, had overestimated the strength of Jōnin due to his unique perspective. As a transmigrator from another world and someone who had grown up watching exaggerated depictions of battles in the anime, his understanding was warped.
The destruction often depicted in the animated series made him expect more from Jōnins, thinking that they should be able to handle techniques like the Water Dragon Bomb with ease.
For Ryosuke, something like the Water Dragon Bomb was merely a standard jutsu—nothing too special. He didn't see it as a grand or complex attack.
In his mind, only jutsus like Kirin or Rasenshuriken were worthy of being considered high-level or unique skills. His expectations of shinobi abilities were heavily influenced by these larger-than-life battles he had seen, and he didn't give much weight to the actual difficulty of executing such jutsu in real life.
Ryosuke's ability to perform hand seals quickly and release powerful jutsus like the Water Dragon Bomb in just three seconds further fueled his confidence.
To him, what he was doing was already toned down from what he thought he could achieve. On top of that, the indifferent look on Kaguya Yuta's face made Ryosuke assume that what he had witnessed was Yuta's full power.
Believing he was facing an equally strong opponent, Mizuki Ryosuke decided to take things more seriously. He resolved to use only about one-tenth of his full strength, a cautious approach for dealing with his "rival."
As Ryosuke's demeanour became colder, the temperature around him dropped noticeably. The water from his earlier Water Dragon Bomb began freezing, transforming into ice in the air. A frosty chill enveloped the battlefield, causing the audience to stiffen.
This wasn't just any technique—this was Ice Release, a powerful ability passed down through the Mizuki clan's bloodline. The gathered crowd quickly realized that Ryosuke was no longer holding back. The air was thick with tension, and even the onlookers felt the weight of Ryosuke's seriousness.
Kaguya Yuta, being familiar with the Mizuki clan's Ice Release, immediately recognized the change. Having fought the Mizuki clan before, Yuta knew that Ice Release could be a formidable ability in combat.
From the intensity of the cold alone, Yuta understood that Ryosuke's Ice Release was unusually potent. It was clear to him that Ryosuke wasn't someone to be underestimated.
"Come on, Mizuki!" Yuta shouted defiantly, still putting on a brave face.
"Show me the power of your clan!"
Even though Yuta was outwardly bold, deep down he knew he couldn't rely solely on his body to defend himself anymore. The sheer intensity of the ice ninjutsu Ryosuke was preparing was far beyond anything Yuta had faced before. If he tried to withstand it with his body alone, he would die.
Ryosuke began his attack in earnest, forming quick seals before releasing an advanced technique:
Ice Release: Flock of Bird Icicles.
Large icicles materialized in the air and rapidly transformed into massive ice birds, each around three to five meters in size. The ice birds surged toward Yuta, exuding an intense, chilling aura.
The appearance of these ice birds stunned everyone watching. Even the Mizuki clan members, familiar with Ice Release techniques, were taken aback. None of them had ever seen this particular jutsu before—it was entirely new.
Ryosuke had created his own unique ninjutsu, a feat that not many ninja could achieve. The Mizuki clan members exchanged shocked glances, marvelling at Ryosuke's talent.
Even Mizuki Taki, the Mizukage, was surprised. He knew how difficult it was to create original ninjutsu, and for Ryosuke to have developed such a technique in such a short time was astonishing.
It had only been a month since Ryosuke had awakened his bloodline abilities, and yet here he was, showcasing a level of mastery that many shinobi never achieved in a lifetime.
The Mizukage couldn't help but wonder, "Is Mizuki Ryosuke truly a genius?"
Meanwhile, Kaguya Yuta's heart pounded as he saw the ice birds coming toward him. He knew that if he tried to block the attack with his bare body, he wouldn't survive.
The freezing cold of the ice birds, combined with their sharp beaks and claws, would tear him apart—even his clan's Dead Bone Pulse wouldn't protect him.
Realizing the gravity of the situation, Yuta quickly activated his Bloodline Limit. His bones began shifting and growing, forming a large, spiked bone shield in front of him.
This was his clan's Bone Shield technique, a defensive move designed to withstand powerful attacks. The ice birds collided with the bone shield, and shards of ice exploded outward, scattering across the battlefield.
Yuta's bone shield managed to block the initial impact, but Ryosuke wasn't finished. As the ice birds shattered, the ice fragments reformed in midair. The ice chips floated around Yuta, arranging themselves into four large ice mirrors that surrounded him on all sides.
"This is…!" Mizuki Taki exclaimed in recognition.
The audience watched in awe as the ice mirrors formed a complete barrier around Yuta. One of the Mizuki shinobi muttered,
"Demonic Mirroring Ice Crystals…"
Demonic Mirroring Ice Crystals was an ancient and difficult-to-learn jutsu passed down through the Mizuki family. It was known for its high level of difficulty, requiring incredible control over Ice Release. To see Ryosuke execute this advanced ninjutsu only cemented the idea that he was a prodigy.
As the ice mirrors closed in around Yuta, even the Mizuki clan members couldn't help but feel a sense of awe. Ryosuke's mastery over Ice Release, his ability to create new techniques, and his overall strength made them realize that he was a force to be reckoned with. The future of the Mizuki clan looked promising with someone like Ryosuke leading the way.
But for Kaguya Yuta, trapped within the ice mirrors, the situation was dire. He knew that Ryosuke's next move could be his last if he didn't act quickly. The battle had escalated far beyond what anyone had anticipated, and now Yuta found himself in a life-or-death struggle, facing the full power of Mizuki Ryosuke's Ice Release.
