Chapter 164: A Win-Win Situation
As the two girls were lost in thought, Shiyu Uchiha spoke again. "Come on, let's go grab some barbecue. We'll invite Guy too—you two should get to know each other." With that, he led the two girls away.
At the mention of barbecue, both girls brightened up immediately. They loved snacks and started urging Shiyu to hurry, even buying Anko a few dumplings along the way.
While walking, Shiyu performed a summoning technique and called out Saya, asking her to find Might Guy so he could join them for the meal. Naturally, Saya had no intention of missing out—after all, she was just as big a foodie as the rest of them.
Meanwhile, Orochimaru met with Danzo, who had been waiting patiently for some time. Danzo spoke first. "Orochimaru, did that brat awaken his Mangekyou Sharingan?"
Orochimaru replied casually, "I don't know. During the fight, his eyes stayed at the three-tomoe stage, which doesn't match what you described as the Mangekyou. But his strength? No joke—it's seriously impressive."
Frowning, Danzo pressed further. "Then do you think there's a chance he could awaken the Mangekyou?"
Orochimaru shook his head. "No idea. I personally don't understand anything about the Mangekyou."
He continued, "Actually, I'm curious why you place so much importance on the Mangekyou Sharingan. Is this pair of eyes really that significant?" For a moment, a glint of greed flickered across Danzo's eyes before he quickly regained his calm composure.
Slowly, he replied, "The Mangekyou Sharingan is an incredibly powerful force that grants its wielder unmatched abilities. If this generation of the Uchiha clan masters such power, it will pose a serious threat to us."
Internally amused, Orochimaru knew exactly what Danzo was thinking. Pretending to be indifferent, he asked, "Oh? Really? Is the Mangekyou Sharingan truly unbeatable?" trying to probe if there were secrets about the Mangekyou he wasn't aware of.
Danzo remained silent for a moment but gave no specifics. He had no intention of sharing any real information with Orochimaru.
At this, Orochimaru simply shrugged and said nothing more. At the moment, he couldn't care less about so-called bloodline abilities. To him, while those kekkei genkai might seem impressive early on, they were barely average once reaching Kage-level. Just how many ninja with bloodline abilities had he already killed?
At the same time, Orochimaru got his own back by withholding additional details about Shiyu Uchiha—particularly the fact that Shiyu was stronger than ordinary Kage-level ninja and had other tricks up his sleeve. After all, Danzo hadn't actually asked about those things, right?
Besides, revealing such information would only lead to more investigations from Danzo. And Orochimaru was busy enough as it was, thank you very much.
His growing disappointment with his mentor's recent behavior was the main reason behind this attitude. Lately, his teacher had become almost unrecognizable compared to the person he used to be. If it weren't for obtaining experimental materials, he wouldn't have wanted to deal with them at all.
After hearing Orochimaru's report, Danzo was clearly unsatisfied, believing he had provided little useful information. However, he would never reveal the true secret of the Mangekyou Sharingan to Orochimaru either.
On the contrary, he hoped Orochimaru would attempt again. As he was about to issue orders, he saw Orochimaru turn around and prepare to leave, tossing over his shoulder just one sentence: "My mission is complete. You can inform our teacher yourself. Don't forget my test subject."
Shimura Danzo immediately burned with anger at Orochimaru's attitude, ready to scold him. But before he could speak, Orochimaru had already vanished using the Body Flicker Technique, completely ignoring his presence. With no choice left, Shimura could only sulk in silence.
Shiyu Uchiha ate slowly, lost in thought, his mind gradually drifting back to Orochimaru, which further led him to recall that Wood Release ninja known as Yamato in the original story. If not for his own interference, this Wood Release user might have already been created and joined Danzo's ranks.
Estimating the timeline, Shiyu figured Yamato should now be nearing school age. And since he hadn't started attending school yet, perhaps there was still an opportunity to bring him into the Police Force's youth training unit. Without delay, after finishing the meal with his three disciples, Shiyu Uchiha dismissed them and immediately headed toward the Police Department.
Using his status and authority, he smoothly obtained intelligence from the relevant personnel and found Yamato's information within it. Shiyu Uchiha carefully studied this report. He discovered Yamato was currently living with his adoptive family, which included an older brother named Kingai Takagawa—who had already joined the Konoha Police Force.
This revelation sparked a plan forming inside Shiyu Uchiha's mind—one that might bring Yamato directly under his wing. He considered every step with ruthless precision, determined to leave no room for failure.
The next morning, Shiyu Uchiha arrived early at his office and summoned Kingai Takagawa there. Once Kingai entered, Shiyu got straight to the point—he expressed his desire to take Yamato on as a disciple.
In truth, Shiyu Uchiha had long considered taking apprentices. His purpose was clear—to strengthen his ties with the alliance formed by those of Senju lineage. They had become an indispensable part of the Police Department.
This time, thinking specifically of the future Wood Release ninja (Yamato), currently known as Tachimi Kanai, it seemed like the perfect opportunity. After discussion, naturally Kingai Takagawa couldn't refuse the tempting offer from Shiyu Uchiha. He felt nothing but joy for his younger brother, as if fortune had dropped down like manna from heaven.
However, since Tachimi Kanai had not yet begun formal schooling, Shiyu Uchiha decided to first send him to the Police Department's training unit for several years of preparation, making more specific arrangements once the Third Great Ninja War concluded.
During those brutal battles, Shiyu Uchiha demonstrated overwhelming power and unmatched combat prowess, leaving a lasting impression on Orochimaru. From then on, the two began establishing contact. Later, Shiyu Uchiha personally visited Orochimaru's residence, where they engaged in deep conversations, strengthening their mutual understanding.
During these visits, Shiyu Uchiha coincidentally stumbled upon the experiments Orochimaru was conducting. These intrigued him greatly, so without hesitation, he decided to fund Orochimaru's research.
Generously, he invested a full 100 million ryō, showcasing his wealth while simultaneously solidifying the bond between them.
However, Shiyu Uchiha also understood that deepening their bond wasn't just about funding—there were strings attached on his end too. He wanted Orochimaru to take Ling Uzumaki under his wing and offer her more advanced training in [Medical Ninjutsu] and research. Given the resources Shiyu had already provided and the promise of even more support down the line, their partnership took a big step forward—and Orochimaru happily agreed.
Of course, not all of Orochimaru's labs were top-secret; those places were definitely not suitable for Ling Uzumaki yet. One particular public laboratory located within Konoha Hospital was perfectly appropriate for her learning and growth. So, Shiyu Uchiha's suggestion turned out to be a win-win deal for both sides.
