Chapter 23: Chapter 23: When There Are People, There Are Conflicts—The Title of Konoha’s Top Flavor Enhancer
Naruto thought that when Sasuke approached him with an angry expression, she was about to punch him.
However, in the next second, a fragrant breeze rushed into his nostrils. The soft, delicate form of a girl suddenly hugged him?
Cough cough... Sasuke, what are you doing?
Naruto was extremely awkward, not daring to think about many things.
"Sorry, Naruto. I apologize for my past behavior," Sasuke said.
Naruto had wanted to take the opportunity to embrace her, but Sasuke spoke and immediately took a step back.
"Uh... No, it's nothing. I've gotten used to it," Naruto replied awkwardly.
Upon hearing this, Sasuke's gaze toward Naruto shifted subtly.
"I didn't realize your life has been this difficult... I... I..."
Seeing Sasuke about to say more, Naruto waved his hand to interrupt. "You don't need to say anything, I understand."
The atmosphere became slightly awkward, with Sasuke feeling guilty.
However, Naruto didn't want to continue in this mood. He smiled and said, "So, I'm going to be Hokage, hahaha..."
Upon hearing this, Sasuke laughed in spite of herself, giving Naruto a sidelong glance, her expression as if saying, Do you think I believe you?
After all, both of them had grand aspirations, and they quickly adjusted their emotions and walked out of the forest together.
Naruto was worried that Sasuke might not be able to handle the villagers' hostility toward him. A public fight might provoke the Third Hokage and Danzo to tighten surveillance on him. So, this time, he could only wear his Anbu mask as they walked.
With the mask covering their identities, nothing unexpected happened as they walked side by side.
Though Naruto felt a bit frustrated, as the villagers wouldn't recognize him as Naruto, making it impossible for him to collect negative points.
But, thinking about what he was about to do, he could only endure.
After all, negative points could be accumulated anytime, but shock value? That would come easily with Sasuke, the treasure of a girl, by his side.
However, the large amounts of silver bills were something he desperately needed right now.
"Naruto, aren't you full? Why are we going to Ichiraku Ramen?" Sasuke asked as she looked at the little shop ahead.
"Hehe, of course, it's not about eating ramen. It's about discussing a collaboration," Naruto replied.
"Collaboration? What collaboration?" Sasuke asked, curious.
"I'll tell you later. Just keep quiet for now," Naruto said, as they lifted the curtain and entered Ichiraku Ramen.
However, as soon as Naruto stepped into Ichiraku, he noticed the atmosphere felt off.
Outside, four middle-aged men with arrogant expressions sat at a table.
From their oily faces, the peculiar smell emanating from them, and their big, round faces, Naruto deduced that these four were probably chefs as well.
After all, with such large heads and thick necks, they were either rich men or cooks, right?
They definitely weren't wealthy men, as Ichiraku was a small shop. Real wealthy people wouldn't come here in person; they'd send servants to pick up the food.
The most peculiar thing, though, was that the extra-flavor ramen in front of the four men had only been touched once and was now untouched.
This strange situation made Naruto look toward the worried faces of the shop's owner, Aunt Ichiraku, and her son, Asaka.
Although Naruto was wearing his Anbu mask, Aunt Ichiraku, being familiar with him, immediately recognized him and knew it was Naruto.
However, because Naruto's identity was special in the village, Aunt Ichiraku didn't say anything. Instead, she politely apologized, "Sorry, guests. Today our shop is dealing with some issues and needs to close early. I'm really sorry for the inconvenience."
Asaka also bowed in apology.
Naruto didn't know what had happened at Ichiraku, but just as he was about to say something, one of the four men sitting in the shop, a bald-headed middle-aged man, confidently said, "Ichiraku, I think these two little brats are just right to be the judges. Today, I'm going to bring out my top-secret ramen recipe and compete with your extra-flavor ramen."
"Hmph... If you lose, then the title of Konoha's top extra-flavor ramen shop..." the bald man added, looking smug.
Upon hearing this, Aunt Ichiraku's face changed slightly. She had already heard that Hongle Ramen had been traveling across the mountains and rivers, visiting renowned chefs from different countries. Now, it seemed they had come with ill intentions.
"Mother?" Asaka, hearing this, looked at Aunt Ichiraku nervously. He knew how much his mother had sacrificed to win the title of Konoha's top extra-flavor ramen.
"Hmph, if Ichiraku Ramen wants to continue existing in Konoha, you better accept my challenge now. Otherwise, tomorrow I will gather all the chefs in Konoha and issue a public challenge. If you refuse..." the bald-headed man said confidently, using both soft and hard tactics, as if determined to win the title of Konoha's top extra-flavor ramen.
At first, Naruto was completely confused, but as he listened to the conversation, he gradually understood what was happening.
So, there really were conflicts in even a small ramen shop.
If such a level of conflict could occur in a little ramen shop, what would happen if it escalated to the level of Konoha's power structure?
"Damn, this is too much. Aunt Ichiraku, just accept his challenge now. I have absolute confidence in your extra-flavor ramen!" Naruto shouted out, his voice full of frustration.
The childish tone and his discontent were immediately exposed.
Had Sasuke not known Naruto's personality by now, she might have scoffed. But after spending time with him, she had no doubt that Naruto would not say such a thoughtless thing.
She stared at him with wide eyes, her expression slightly puzzled as Naruto clenched his fists and furrowed his brow. She felt like she was understanding less and less about this boy.
Indeed, as soon as Naruto shouted this out, the four men turned around and sneered.
The bald-headed middle-aged man laughed coldly and looked at Ichiraku. "What's the matter? Getting old and losing the last bit of dignity a chef has?"
If Aunt Ichiraku had hesitated before, upon hearing those words, she showed a determined look in her eyes. "Fine, I accept your challenge."
"Hahaha... Good!" The bald-headed man laughed heartily, stood up, and waved his hand. "For fairness, we won't change the venue for the preliminaries. We'll each bring one assistant to make the ramen. As for the judges... they'll be these four!"
The man pointed at Naruto, Sasuke, and the other two apprentices.
Naruto and Sasuke would represent Ichiraku, while the other two middle-aged men would represent Hongle Ramen. With cross-tasting and comprehensive scores, the results would be most trustworthy.
"We have no problem!" Naruto immediately responded.
"We have no problem either," the other two men nodded.
Seeing this, Aunt Ichiraku could only nod, but she wasn't willing to lose the title of Konoha's top extra-flavor ramen so easily. She looked at the bald-headed man and said firmly, "A quality broth, a secret extra-flavor... Every step needs a lot of time to prepare. This competition is so rushed, but in order not to tarnish the reputation of Konoha's top extra-flavor ramen, the winner of today's preliminaries will have the right to set the theme and requirements for the finals. The loser must comply."
Upon hearing this, the man smiled, waved his hand grandly, and said, "Hmph, I accept your proposal!"
He continued, "As the host, you won't make me go first, right?"
"Hmph, get ready to have your eyes opened," Aunt Ichiraku replied, showing her pride as she accepted the challenge.
With a wave of her hand, she and Asaka hurried to prepare the signature ramen.
To ensure fairness, Aunt Ichiraku was not allowed to let the competitors watch her during the preparation. If she made the ramen first, she would be at a disadvantage.
To avoid suspicion, Naruto also dragged Sasuke out of the shop.
As soon as they stepped out, they heard the four men whispering. One of the uncles took a black stone from a bag on his back and handed it to the bald-headed man.
With Naruto's sharp eyes, he glanced at it and immediately understood the nature of the stone.
No wonder they're so confident. So, it's like this?
"What's going on?" Sasuke asked, hearing Naruto's muttered words.
"Nothing... I thought this would be a smooth thing, but unexpectedly, we've encountered some enmity in the culinary world. In that case, I'll have to intervene," Naruto said, his tone slightly serious.

Note: Ichiraku Ramen is a subplot. The focus here is more on the brewing conflict and the competition for the title rather than on food or daily life. Once this subplot is established, the story shifts to other aspects like money and Naruto's eventual role as a hands-off leader.
