Nomad War-2
David had to take a rest, he could go up to three days normally, and that was stretched to a whole week thanks to the nanites.
But he had already been up for longer than a day and he wanted to make sure he was rested properly, even if it was just a quick 4-hour nap.
By the time he woke up nothing had happened to anyone, he had made sure to check in.
Once he woke up Lucy kissed him softly, she had been napping before she got the call so she was already rested. Rebecca had returned to take a nap as well earlier.
''They finished, I've got all locations of the Wraiths in the badlands, the city, and along the border. I've got them continuously sweeping out as well.'' David spoke up, not needing to elaborate on how he was doing it.
''I've got their lines tapped, monitoring their traffic across the state. Once we kick the hornets' nest and they start buzzing, I'll be able to locate more and more of them.'' Lucy said, briefly showing him her vidboard.
''Good, have Kiw- shit... Can you start monitoring traffic in the city, use keywords, Nomads, Wraiths, Raffen Shiv, or anything that will make it easier to catch traffic through the city, they got to have some place they buy their synthpaste, I want to know where, how much they spend, and how often they take a bathroom break while out.''
Lucy nodded as her eyes began to glow as she began her work, David stood up as he left the tent. His Companion shifted from its spot near the bed, laying down as he began to walk with David.
Coming onto into the sun he didn't need to squint due to the change of light, his optics were too good for that to be a problem anymore.
He walked between the people walking around, getting a few nods and hello's from people before he made his way into the 'War' tent.
Saul leaned over a map, red circles in some locations, and then an X in others. His hands braced themselves on the side of the table, looking deep in thought before he heard the soft sound of the tent flap opening and the sun peeking through, smiling as he saw David.
''David? Morning, Rebecca told me to make a map of all the places I know that the Wraiths stay around, the X ones are the ones she or others already dealt with.''
''Morning, I had a friend get some satellite footage, send this to all hunting parties.'' David's eyes glowed, followed briefly by Sauls at the transfer of information.
Saul whistled. ''Look at you, I remember when you were but a squirt, now you show up with an army of guns, in a fancy suit, and able to call up some friends and just, grab some satellite images?''
''I did more than hit it big, I'm a fixer now, and I already had connections to the Valentinos, that I've strengthened over the last few months. I think by this time next year, I might start running for Mayor.'' David joked, shaking his head.
''Hell, you got my vote, think you could lessen the security on the border?'' Someone joked, turning around to look at the voice David saw Mith.
They wore matching grins as the two got into an embrace, David pulling back to look at Mitch with a grin still on his face. ''Surprised to see you still kicken' around old man. How've your runs been?'' David asked.
Mitch's face wavered a bit as he took a glance to Saul before back to David. ''He hasn't told you yet? We're trying to stop smuggling, leaning more on corpos... Do honest work.''
That stopped David, his mind working quickly before he slowly turned to look at Saul, who looked guilty as ever.
''You dumb piece of scrap, what the fuck?!'' David said as he turned to get beside the table, only a few feet away from Saul now.
''Listen, David. With all this, I don't want to deal with another person telling me I'm wro-.''
''You are! What the fuck are you thinking? NO suit work is honest work! What have you been doing since you started to work for them?''
''Delivering food, parts, sometimes chr-.'' Saul begin only to get cut off again
''Bullshit! I know damn well no fucking corpo with enough eddies to keep the camp afloat care shit about food or parts!''
Saul's face tightened a bit, and David's brows furrowed, Mitch chuckling from behind him as he moved off to the side to stand and watch. ''That's the thing, David... We're not staying above water right now.''
David's eyes locked on Saul, growling lowly. ''I've half the mind to start beating your ass right now Saul, and it will go differently than before, you may still have ten years on me, but I'm not the same kid. There are people RELYING on your smuggling!''
''But if we switch to honest work we might be able to settle do-''
''SETTLE DOWN? What the fuck you doing leading a group of Nomads and thinking about settling down?! Have you asked anyone else in the family how they feel about settling down?''
There was another chuckle from Mitch, only getting him a dirty look from Saul before he focused back on David.
''We keep getting hit, we can't keep doing this!'' Saul finally got something all the way out before David said anything else.
David turned to look at Mitch in confirmation.
''We got hit last may... lost Justin and his kids.'' Mitch sighed out, it still weighing heavily on his mind. His days as a panzerboy were sometimes easier than this.
''Was it the Wraiths?'' This got a nod from Saul before David sighed, moving to sit down as he rubbed at his face.
He needed to get better at checking in with the people he knew, if this has been happening and David wasn't aware, it made him feel like a shit friend.
There was a swish as the tent opened quickly, Lucy coming in. ''David you need to see this.''
Lucy slapped down a display holo onto the table. Flicking her vidboard a few times before she suddenly pushed something onto it, a holographic screen came up before it played the audio.
''They'll be here?'' A voice asked, Saul's face twisting a bit in confusion as he heard it.
''I've called them for a job, and once they confirmed it I had them placed around here when I visited them, worst case it gives you some tracks to follow.'' Another voice stated, the tone said Corpo though, you could pick them out from a crowd.
But by the looks of Saul's face, that wasn't a good thing. The first voice chuckles loudly.
''Dumbass Aldecaldos, working with a corp. Fuck they doing? But it doesn't matter, makes hunting them all that much easier.''
Then the voices cut as the recording stopped, Saul fell backward into a chair, looking defeated.
''Luc?'' David asked as she turned around to look at him.
''I wasn't getting anything of note, so I added Aldercaldos to the keywords, and instantly pulled this. I did some digging, the first voice is-''
''Dogkiller... Leader of the Shivs.... The other voice was the suit I've been taking jobs from.''
David growled out, but he didn't do anything more, Saul didn't need to be kicked while he was down like that, not by a friend. ''Can yo-''
''Already did, A small executive for Arc-Corp, that new 'Clean Energy' company. There is a sob story behind it, but in short he's using his influence and money to make Nomads kill each other.''
''The whole corp?'' David asked, basically asking if it was the whole group doing it, when Lucy shook her head David sighed out and nodded, a single executive was easier to get to than a whole corporation.
''I want him dead by lunch, his data stripped and searched, who we got?'' David asked, he could do it himself if not.
''You want it done quickly, or quietly?'' Lucy asked, pulling up a list of names.
''Preferably both. Someone long range if possible.''
''Falco's free, he's taken small hits like this before joining the crew as a driver.'' Lucy said, getting a nod from David.
''Find him a window, and an opportunity. We'll pay him triple the rate.''
''He won't accept that, and you know it.'' Lucy chuckled, Falco had a certain place in his heart for people like this.
''Tell him I'll add that 200 bonus.'' David chuckled, causing Lucy to grin.
''He'll accept that.'' Her eyes glowed as she contacted Falco, walking out of the tent after grabbing her holo-display.
David stood. ''Look, Saul, we'll talk about it later, but don't kick yourself... You couldn't have known.''
''It took you what.... 15 minutes to find out? If I had actually put some effort in-'' Saul begin only to jerk in pain as David kicked a rock from the dirt into his leg.
''Shut up, I've got the best netrunner in the world riding my dick and feeding me cherries. What do you got? Scorpion and his dinky computer?''
''HEY!'' he heard shouted from the back, getting a chuckle out of all of them. David walks over to slap Saul's shoulder. ''No one's going to blame you Saul, you're a good man.''
