Chapter 36: Bone Poison.
The boss had already discovered three sword styles, and it was going to be dangerous since Tahir not only used sword styles but was also inputting Qi into his sword slashes.
Using his hands as a form of shield, the slashes grazed his arms and legs.
The moment Tahir's sword grazed the Shadow Fang leader, a sharp jolt of pain surged through his arm. It was a shallow cut, barely noticeable—except something was definitely wrong. His arm felt… heavy, weaker than it should.
"You feel it, don't you?" Tahir asked, his voice steady but pointed. "That wasn't just a normal slash."
The leader flexed his fingers, trying to shake off the unsettling sensation. His body felt slow, the strength in his arm already starting to fade.
Tahir stepped closer, his eyes cold. "That cut carried the poison of the bone. The moment my blade touched you, it started to spread. It doesn't kill you—at least, not immediately. Instead, it attacks your bones, weakening them from the inside. You'll feel it for hours.
No strength, no power. Every movement will remind you of it."
The leader's jaw tightened, but he couldn't ignore the growing sense of weakness crawling through his body.
"I can still evolve. I can heal this," he growled, more out of habit than confidence.
Tahir's gaze didn't waver. "Not fast enough. The poison slows everything down. Your bones won't break, but they'll stay weak—too weak for you to recover in time. You won't be able to tap into your evolution while this is in your system."
The leader's breath quickened, and despite his effort to stay composed, the gravity of what Tahir was saying settled over him like a heavy weight.
Powering himself with Qi, the leader was ready to keep going.
"I'll just have to hang on till you give up," the leader said calmly.
This act of calmness was now pushing Tahir back; the building anger was something he couldn't control anymore.
"Why... why?" Tahir said slowly. "Why are you all planning to stop? Why do you want to end my dream before we even start? Why the hell won't you just give up!" Tahir shouted.
"Nothing comes easy, lad. To live, you have to show you can survive. Do you know how many people want to kill you for taking someone they love? This is what the whole assassin world is," the Master said.
Ignoring the Master, Tahir started murmuring audible little words. "Silver... I'm sorry, but I'll need your help once more. I'll need to use our full power. At least let's get out of here first." "Qi Overload," Tahir chanted as his entire body was covered in yellow aura.
"It can't be! I didn't teach him this skill. What the hell is going on?" The Master was already starting to panic.
Qi Overload was a forbidden technique known for its ability to envelop the user in a brilliant yellow aura by channeling their Qi outward. This technique allowed the user to amplify their physical abilities and elemental power significantly, creating an overwhelming surge of strength that could turn the tide of battle.
However, Qi Overload came with grave risks. While the technique did not require the user to empty their Qi reserve, doing so by mistake could lead to disastrous consequences. If the user pushed themselves too far and exhausted their Qi completely, they faced the risk of death, as their body would have no energy left to sustain itself.
This perilous nature made Qi Overload a skill rarely practiced. Even among the strongest warriors, the fear of losing everything kept many from embracing its power. It was a technique for the desperate or the foolhardy, where the line between victory and demise was razor-thin.
"I can't waste time any longer. I have to use the advantage of the poison and Qi Overload to take care of him," Tahir thought as he charged forward.
The Shadow Fang leader was getting slow as the poison started to take a toll on him. More slashes grazed his body, but he stood still while increasing his power output.
"I can't lose yet," the leader said as he increased his speed. He was powering his sword with Qi as slash after slash was sent at Tahir, who kept up with the speed while cutting through each slash. This was a battle of strength. And Tahir was winning.
Wanting to end it, Tahir pushed himself forward as he lunged at the now-weak boss, his sword grazing the leader's throat and drawing blood.
"I give up," the leader said as the match was declared ended.
Half of the place was destroyed due to the sword slashes, and Tahir was tired as he fell downwards. The healers all ran to heal him as he handed over the antidote for the bone poison for them to give the weakened master.
"I won, Silver," Tahir muttered as tears dropped from his eyes.
It took hours, but Tahir was now awake as he saw the master by his side.
"So tell me, how did you use the bone poison without me noticing and without stabbing me?" the master asked with a smile.
Tahir faced the master, who had just asked how he managed to poison him without notice. "It's simple," he said, keeping his tone steady. "A week before this fight, I took in a lot of blood poison. My body adapted to it, so now I can secrete it through my blood."
The master looked skeptical but intrigued. "What do you mean?"
Tahir gestured to the small cut on his arm. "When I grazed my blood with my sword, it infused the blade with poison. That's how I was able to coat my attacks without you even realizing it. Every time I swung my sword, I was delivering a little more poison with each hit."
He watched the realization dawn on the master. "So, you see, I didn't need to stab you directly to make an impact. I turned my own body into a weapon."
"This means the poison was strong enough for the toxins to get inside of me without a deep cut. This kid is dangerous," the Master thought to himself.
"So master, what are you planning on doing now that you have won?" the Shadow Fang leader said with a respectful bow.
It was the tradition of the leader to step down once he lost.
"I'm planning on leaving you here as a head. I'll need a place to stay down. I need to be low-key."
"Ever wondered why I took you in?" the Shadow Fang leader asked out of the blue.
"Nope, I thought it was rather weird though," Tahir said while shrugging his shoulder.
"Actually, someone I owe a favor told me to take you in. He said you were good. He also told me you wouldn't want to stay. He gave me this key and map to give you whenever you're ready to leave," the Shadow Fang leader said while handing over a box to Tahir. "I never saw his face; he was always wearing a mask."
"You can leave using the teleportation device. We would keep contact without you," the leader said, making it clear he wasn't interested in answering any questions from Tahir.
After leaving, I ended up in the apartment, then a box came in, Tahir said while recounting everything to John from when the box arrived with the admission letter in it and how he chanted some words and became a vampire. He left out the part of the system because the two living figures in his head said he shouldn't mention the system to anyone.
John saw no reason for Tahir to lie, and he could tell if someone was lying by reading their Qi, and right now, Tahir wasn't lying.
"Can this be him, master? Is this the chosen one you said I should protect?" John was lost in his thoughts when Tahir asked him what he was doing there.
"Anyway, kid, your secret is safe with me, and also I'm out here to hunt for a tough beast—a Legendary Tier Beast."
"The one you just killed just finished evolving. The one I'm looking for is on its way to being an Emperor Tier Beast."
"Let me explain them to you."
John turned to Tahir, keeping his tone relaxed. "You know, there's a big difference between a Legendary Tier Beast that just evolved and an Emperor Tier Beast that's close to evolving."
He shrugged, glancing into the distance as he spoke. "A newly evolved Legendary Tier Beast might be strong, but it's still figuring things out. It hasn't fully grasped its abilities yet. It's like someone who just found out they have a talent but hasn't learned how to use it properly."
John leaned in a bit, his expression becoming more serious. "An Emperor Tier Beast, though? That's a whole different story. It knows its power and how to use it. They move with confidence, like they're in complete control. You can just tell when one is on the brink of evolving.
The way it fights, the way it reacts—it's sharp and instinctive."
He paused for a moment, remembering. "I once came across a beast. It had this intensity in its eyes and fought like it was ready for something bigger. That's how I knew it was close to evolving."
