Chapter 35: Three swords.

"You're the boss, right?" Tahir asked a tall man.

"And what if I am?" the man responded calmly.

"Tchh, are you the one who hurt her this badly? Answer me!" Tahir shouted, his voice laced with anger.

"I owe you no answer," the man replied, unfazed. "But I'll advise you, you're in no condition to fight. You're weak and would only die."

"Shut up! You don't get to tell me if I'm weak or not!" Tahir yelled before charging at him.

The man sidestepped, easily evading the attack, and slammed his fist into Tahir's ribs. Tahir winced in pain. He had lost so much blood, yet here he was, still fighting he is no match yet his still fighting.

Tahir charged again, but the same thing happened. Over and over.

"You're getting slow," the man said, mocking him.

Ignoring the taunt, Tahir attacked once more, but the result was the same. His opponent slapped him across the face.

"Are you dumb? The odds are on your side if you leave now. Go and get stronger before you come back," the man screamed, frustrated.

Tahir pushed himself to his feet and went in again. This time, the man activated his wind ability. A vertical slash of wind cut across Tahir's chest, sending him crashing to the ground.

"I'll give you one last chance. Go get stronger, and I'll fight you—if you're better than this. I'm sure that's what your friend would've wanted." The man's voice softened.

Realization hit Tahir as he sheathed his swords. He picked up the dead Silver and strapped her to his back, heading toward the dojo.

"Phew, in this state, he won't be able to avenge her. I hope he gets stronger. I hope you weren't wrong about him, Silver. I hope your sacrifice was worth it," the man muttered, brushing his hair back as he watched the sun.

"Is that him? I'm sure it's him, and I see Silver." Murmurs spread as Tahir moved through the village, losing more blood by the second. It didn't take long to reach the dojo. As soon as he opened the door, healers rushed to help, but he shunned them with a wave of his hand.

When he reached the master's chamber, he gently laid Silver's body down and looked into the master's eyes. "I failed. I failed again," Tahir said, tears welling up. "Please, commence her burial. I'll be in isolation until I'm deemed fit. I lost… I left the battlefield alive."

The master understood Tahir's pain and signaled for the burial rites to begin.

"He's different. His aura—no, his Qi—is going wild," the boss thought, observing from a distance.

"You didn't fail, Tahir. It was never your responsibility. You did well by bringing one of ours back. We owe you," the Shadow Fang leader said, smiling as usual.

"I spent months—no, years—indoors, honing my skills. With the Qi I gained from Silver, I had so much power inside me. It took months to balance it all," Tahir explained to John, his mind returning to the present.

"I wanted to fulfill our dream. I wanted to make Silver's last wish come true. It's time to leave the dojo. It's time to challenge the master," Tahir said, recalling that fateful morning.

"Tahir is requesting to see you," one of the assassins told the Shadow Fang boss.

"Let him in," the boss replied.

"Sit here with me," the boss said, patting the spot beside him.

Tahir bowed respectfully before sitting.

"So, Tahir, I've got a question. How did your Qi increase? She did it, didn't she? She used the forbidden technique," the Shadow Fang leader asked.

"Yeah, she's always been bold," Tahir said quietly. "But I'm here for something else. I want to leave the dojo."

"Took you long enough," the boss said with a smirk.

"You knew I'd want to leave?" Tahir asked.

"It was obvious. You never planned to stay long. And now that your best friend is gone, there's no reason to remain. You know the criteria for leaving, right? A duel with me—until one of us gives up, passes out, or dies," the boss said seriously.

"I'm ready whenever you are," Tahir replied, ignoring the tension in the room.

"Alright, two hours. In the combat room. A word of advice: don't hold back, not even once," the boss said, standing up.

"I'll give you the same advice," Tahir said, leaving to prepare.

A public announcement was made: the fight would start in 30 minutes. The boss was thrilled. "It's just as you predicted. He's willing to fight for his freedom," the boss recalled, speaking to a memory.

"Ahh, it's time," the boss said, removing his coat.

Tahir was ready. He drew one of his swords and powered his legs with Qi, launching himself forward in an attempt to slash the boss. The boss sidestepped, slamming his knee into Tahir's side.

The force threw Tahir into the wall, but he got up, aiming for the boss's head. This time, the boss blocked but was caught off-guard as Tahir spun and delivered a kick to his head. The boss raised his arm to block, but the force was too much.

The boss braced himself, tightening his stance to avoid sliding across the room.

"He's strong," the boss thought, deciding it was time to attack. Moving swiftly, he punched Tahir in the face, sending him flying into the wall. Without wasting time, the boss appeared in front of him, delivering a lightning-fast kick to Tahir's chest, then breaking his legs with another blow.

"Give up. You can't win," the Shadow Fang leader said coldly.

"I'll attack with my hands," Tahir said, preparing to strike again.

"In that case, I'll break your arms, too," the boss replied, and before Tahir could react, his arms were broken.

"Give up, or it'll be too late," the leader warned.

"Too late? We're just getting started," Tahir growled, letting his Qi flow freely.

That's when the boss realized Tahir hadn't been fighting seriously, he was holding back yet I couldn't win.

"What do you think I was doing all that time in isolation after Silver died?" Tahir said, his voice filled with pain. "I was training. Qi Stage 2—something you never taught us. A way to heal faster and use Qi as a protective shield. I've mastered it."

"Qi Stage Two is something far beyond the basic Qi flow. When I was in isolation, I didn't just practice sword techniques—I focused on refining my Qi. You see, at the first stage, Qi is mostly used to strengthen attacks or enhance speed temporarily. But Qi Stage Two allows me to do much more.

In this stage, I can channel Qi internally, using it to strengthen my body from within. It enhances my muscles, bones, and even my reflexes, making me faster and tougher. But that's not all—one of the key elements of Qi Stage Two is its healing properties.

By circulating Qi directly through my body's meridians, I can repair damaged tissue, heal wounds faster, and even mitigate pain. It's like I'm pushing the energy into my body to regenerate—making recovery much quicker. It's not an instant fix, but it can keep me going during long fights, when most people would have collapsed.

So, it's more than just raw strength. It's like having a second layer of defense and a way to keep fighting, even after taking serious hits. That's why I didn't give up, even when my arms and legs were broken. With Qi Stage Two, I can heal, protect, and keep fighting longer than anyone else could."

Tahir moved into a fighting stance.

"I was starting to get bored over here, do well to keep entertained" the boss said, increasing his power output slightly.

"Round two," Tahir said, unsheathing his second sword, turning it into a dual-wielding fight.

"I thought you weren't taking me seriously, think it time to me all your got?" the boss smirked.

Tahir moved quickly, swinging both swords in opposite directions to limit the boss's movements. Closing the distance, Tahir headbutted the leader, sending him staggering backward as his nose was starting to bleed..

"This… wasn't expected," the boss thought as he touched his blood nose while preparing for close combat again.

"It's time to take you a little more seriously," the boss said, unsheathing his katana.

The two swords clashed, each strike sending sparks flying, the sound echoing through the room.

The onlookers couldn't believe it—Tahir was holding his own against the boss, without fear.

Hours passed, and the fight continued.

The leader increased his power output once more, his strength overwhelming Tahir, who now struggled to keep up, suffering deep cuts.

The leader slashed downward. Tahir dodged, but it was a mistake. The boss slammed the hilt of his sword into Tahir's back.

"Shit," Tahir cursed, powering himself with Qi as he stood again.

"Round three," Tahir said, unsheathing Silver's sword.

"Three swords? What is this monster planning?" the audience whispered.

"You've only got two hands. How do you plan to use a third sword?" the boss asked.

Tahir ignored him, placing the hilt of the sword in his mouth.

"Three Sword Style: Crimson Lion!" Tahir roared as three blazing slashes shot toward the leader.

"This… this is bad," the boss thought.
