My SSS-Rank Dungeon: Reborn In A Reverse World

Chapter 108: Tears

Evelyn had no clue what this red orb was that Leon brought out of nowhere. But she didn't need to know, because she could see the expectant eyes of her son.

She was a mother who would gladly swallow poison if it could make her children smile, so how couldn't she do something so simple?

She trusted her son. And if it made him happy, she would just do as he said and not care about the details.

So, she simply took the red orb from Leon's hand and began to absorb the Essence inside it. As she had been forced to rely on cultivating Essence to sustain herself, she had become quite used to this state.

As the first strands of Essence entered her body, she was shocked at the rich quality of the energy.

She came from a prominent family, so it wouldn't be a lie to say that she had seen a lot. Yet, this was the very first time she had encountered something with such good quality of Essence.

She wondered where Leon had acquired it, but left the questions for later. For now, she simply focused on absorbing everything from this orb.

On her side, Leon watched everything with a nervous look in his eyes. He desperately wanted this to work, as he had been searching for any cure for her soul injuries for years.

Even though she seemed to be living well, it was like a ticking time bomb that could take her life at any moment. How could Leon ever feel at ease knowing that?

So, he had been searching for cures endlessly, but as Amber had said, soul injuries were very serious and there were hardly any cures for them.

If it wasn't for Miyabi, Amber's master, Evelyn wouldn't even have survived until now.

Leon had been thinking even more deeply about this problem ever since he began to analyze the Invasion of Vale. No matter how much he thought, he just couldn't figure out a proper way his enemies could kill Evelyn with all the high-level security Jade employed.

If he said Evelyn was the safest person in the whole Western Continent, it wouldn't be a joke. That was how much trust he had in Jade and her capabilities.

Even if he considered her love for the orphanage, he still didn't think they would be able to kill her so easily.

Only then did he remember that they didn't really need to kill her themselves. She was already a time bomb, they just needed to trigger it, and the explosion would burn her alive.

They only needed to somehow force her to fight seriously, and her soul injuries would do the rest of the work.

It showed just how meticulous his enemies' plan was, and that was why he needed to adapt.

That was when he came upon this theory he had discussed with Amber, and now he desperately wanted it to work. As long as Evelyn didn't turn into an Abyssal Creature from fighting immediately, everything would be good.

That was his hope and the reason he was willing to give up on his precious Energy Orbs, despite the fact that he needed every single one of them.

Even more than that, there was hope for her voice to return if her soul was healed. Only he knew how much he yearned for her to call him in her own voice.

Every single second felt like an eternity to him, but he waited patiently. His palms were sweaty as he stared at her face.

'Damn it! I wasn't even this nervous when talking to the devil professors of college.'

Just then, Evelyn's eyes fluttered open and she found her son's anxious gaze fixed on her. As if understanding what he was thinking, she smiled and said, 'It helped.'

Leon's body shook at her words as he clasped her hand and smiled widely, "It works! It works! We can save you! It works!!"

Evelyn began to pat his head and smiled sadly. She understood what he was going through right now, and it made her heart heavy. She knew how much he yearned to hear her voice, even just once, yet she still couldn't do it.

She couldn't even fulfill the most basic duty of a mother, and it always hurt her deeply. Leon never asked her for anything, but how could she not understand her son's heart?

Now that there really was a way to heal her soul and a chance for him to hear her voice for the first time in his life, Leon's emotions were overflowing.

'If only I was strong back then, you wouldn't have to suffer like this, my child,' Evelyn kissed the top of his head and hugged him tightly with a sad smile.

Leon tried to compose himself and separated from his mother. Just as he was about to say something, he noticed those familiar tears in her eyes, and his anger flared up.

"Old lady, why the hell are you crying now? Isn't this good news? Why do you have such a big dam of tears in those small eyes?" Leon tapped on her forehead and asked, trying to control his own emotions.

Evelyn shook her head and tried to smile, but the tears just wouldn't stop. 'They are tears of happiness. I just couldn't help myself.'

"As if I don't know you," Leon snorted and said. "Don't you feel ashamed to be a crybaby even though you've got two such strong children?"

However, that didn't help in the slightest, as Evelyn began to cry even more. She didn't even know why she was crying so much today. It was so embarrassing, but the more she looked at her son and heard his voice, the more her tears came out.

It distressed Leon to no end, so he sighed and moved to give her a side hug. He circled his arms around her shoulder and said softly, "It's alright. Silver will be right here with you in no time."

Evelyn didn't care anymore. She just rested her head on his shoulder and cried her heart out. The thing that tore her heart was that she couldn't even scream or cry out properly.

Only tears would come out, not voice.

It was a silent sob that she thought she had already gotten used to, but clearly she hadn't.

Leon rubbed her back and continued to comfort her. He knew she was hurting deeply. Her life was already a mess, and one of her children was fighting for her life in an unknown place where she couldn't even reach her to help.

It made her feel helpless. Perhaps it reminded her of the days when he had been in her womb.

He closed his eyes and thought, 'I don't want revenge for her. I want revenge for myself. I don't care if it's selfish or anything, but I will get to you, no matter what.'
