Chapter 79: The Mysterious Stone Figure
At first, the giant python didn't take the black swarm seriously, just a bunch of stinky bugs it thought, a mere flick of its tail could kill a large swath of them. But when it clashed with the swarm, the python realized just how terribly wrong it had been.
"Pfft!"
In a short exchange, the python's tail was missing a segment, how was it missing? Of course, it had been bitten off by the black swarm.
Blood gushed wildly, and the python wailed in agony.
"Damn!" Gao Fei was taken aback, "So powerful!" He had planned to deal with the black swarm himself, but upon seeing their terrifying strength, he withdrew the hand he had stretched out and took advantage of the chaos as the python grappled with the black swarm to quickly retreat, stopping only when he reached the palace's grand doorway.
In just a short moment, the python was devoured by the black swarm, leaving not even a speck of bone behind.
Feeling a chill, Gao Fei exclaimed, "That's just too terrifying! What kind of species are those black bugs anyway? How could they be so formidable?" After the swarm devoured the python, they slowly flew back to the roof and did not continue to attack Gao Fei, which greatly relieved him. Not even the python was a match for the black bugs, let alone himself.
The reason the black bugs didn't attack Gao Fei was because he was standing at the entrance of the palace, far from the stone statue. If Gao Fei tried to approach it, he would be attacked by the black bugs.
The nine pillars served as the boundary; the area in front of the pillars was safe, while the area behind them was dangerous.
"With these black bugs around, there's no chance of getting close to that stone statue," Gao Fei sighed inwardly.
He had no choice but to leave for now and come back to uncover the statue's secrets once his strength had improved! The stone statue gave Gao Fei a very peculiar feeling, as if it hid some great secrets...
Of course, that was just a feeling, whether it was true or not remained unknown.
Just now Gao Fei had used his Clairvoyance to examine the statue and found it to be quite ordinary, just a regular stone statue with nothing remarkable about it. This puzzled him the most because if it really was just a regular statue, why would it be guarded by terrifying black bugs? It made no sense.
It was better to leave for now and return later. Being unable to unveil the statue's mysteries left Gao Fei feeling quite frustrated.
After taking one last look at the stone statue, he turned and walked out of the palace. "Click, clack, clack..." The stone door closed by itself. What Gao Fei found most astonishing was that when he looked back, the ancient text on the stone door flickered briefly. When he looked closely again, the ancient text stopped moving and didn't react at all.
Gao Fei was certain it wasn't an illusion; the ancient text on the stone door had indeed flickered.
This place was truly filled with mystery, the mysterious stone door, the mysterious text, the mysterious palace, the mysterious stone statue, the mysterious insects... Everything was an enigma. Gao Fei's curiosity was thoroughly piqued, and he swore that one day he would unravel these mysteries.
"It's just a shame about that python." Gao Fei sighed, "That was a spiritual beast, its entire body a treasure, yet it was eaten by the black bugs." His main reason for coming to Shennongjia was to search for spiritual beasts, and he was fortunate to encounter two, of the same kind no less. Alas, he ultimately obtained only one of them.
After calming his disheartened mood, Gao Fei strode away.
...
An hour later.
Gao Fei returned to the surface, committing every detail of his surroundings to memory for an easier re-entry to the Underground Karst Cave in the future.
"It's time to head back," Gao Fei picked up his pace and then left Shennongjia.
Two days later, Gao Fei arrived back at the Lu Family household.
"Mr. Gao!" The Lu Family greeted him, led by Lu Qingshan, "Mr. Gao, did you find those three medicinal herbs?"
Under Lu Qingshan's hopeful gaze, Gao Fei nodded, "Mission accomplished, I have obtained the three herbs."
"Thank heavens! Truly, thank heavens, oh no, I should thank you, Mr. Gao. Thank you so much, this time you have our deepest gratitude." Lu Qingshan expressed his excitement, "You are our family's benefactor, and we will certainly repay your kindness!"
"Keep these three herbs safe, preferably in a refrigeration unit. I'm tired, I'll rest first, and we can talk about anything else tomorrow," Gao Fei handed over the three herbs to Lu Qingshan and then walked away.
"Stay by Mr. Gao's door and see to any of his needs," Lu Qingshan told his son Lu Hao.
"Yes, I'm on it," Lu Hao replied and swiftly left, holding a deep respect for Gao Fei in his heart.
...
After resting for a day, Gao Fei began his treatment of the elder Lu Pingguan. The brain's nerves are complex and delicate; once damaged, they are very hard to heal, especially in Lu Pingguan's case where the nerves were badly damaged. However, with the aid of the Immortal Wind Grass, Buddha Hand Flower, and the concoction they made, along with Gao Fei's True Qi, there was hope for healing.
Of course, this was a lengthy treatment process that couldn't be rushed.
Following the steps outlined in the Demon God Heritage, Gao Fei first put the elder to sleep, then gently massaged his temples with his thumbs, followed by prying open his mouth to pour in the prepared medicine—a concoction made from the Immortal Wind Grass, Buddha Hand Flower, and the other herb, highly effective for treating brain nerves.
After completing this, Gao Fei spread his palms over the elder's forehead and began to channel True Qi, slowly transferring it. Once the True Qi entered the elder's head, it automatically turned into a fine thread, beginning the repair of the damaged nerves.
...
By the time Gao Fei emerged from the elder's room, night had fallen, and the windows in the corridor revealed the lights outside.
"Mr. Gao, was everything smooth today?" Lu Qingshan hurried over, asking with a tense expression.
Gao Fei nodded, "Quite smooth. With this pace, Elder Master Lu will recover very soon." As he said this, Gao Fei added another comment, "After the recovery, living for a few more decades is still possible." With Gao Fei's treatment, Elder Master Lu's health was even better than before. It was very likely that he could live to be a hundred years old, maybe even surpassing that.
"If that's the case, then that's fantastic." Lu Qingshan smiled broadly, "Mr. Gao, dinner is ready. Today we have your favorite yellow croaker and lotus seed soup."
"Bring it to my room," Gao Fei replied. He didn't like to dine with the Lu family, so he always ate in his room. It was quiet, and he didn't have to mind the looks from others.
"Alright, I'll go instruct the servants to deliver the meal to you," said Lu Qingshan as he nodded and quickly left.
Gao Fei followed the stairs to the second floor and then entered a bedroom, brewed a cup of tea, and sat on the sofa alone, savoring it slowly.
"Knock, knock, knock!"
There was a series of knocks on the door.
"Come in."
"Creak!"
The door was pushed open, and Luo Mingshan walked in with a beaming smile, striding steadily, "Mr. Gao, I've come to bid you farewell."
"Farewell?" Gao Fei was startled.
"I've booked tonight's flight back to Myanmar," Luo Mingshan explained. "I've been away for quite some time, and it's about time I headed back. The pieces of jade you left with me are still not fully carved."
"No rush with the jade carving," Gao Fei waved his hand dismissively.
"But I'm in a rush," Luo Mingshan insisted. "I want to finish carving as soon as possible, then deliver them to the auction house to sell, so you can get the money sooner."
Seeing Luo Mingshan was determined to leave, Gao Fei didn't hold him back any longer. He could only remind Luo Mingshan to be careful on his way and to call him once he safely arrived in Myanmar.
After chatting for a few more moments, Luo Mingshan stood up to leave. Just after he left, Lu Hao arrived.
"Brother Fei!" Today, Lu Hao was dressed in a suit, wearing a tie, and his hair slicked back, looking very dapper. For the past few days, Lu Hao had been calling him "Brother Fei" with great affection.
"Is there something you need?" Gao Fei raised an eyebrow. At first, Gao Fei didn't think much of Lu Hao, considering him a useless, arrogant wealthy heir. But after spending more time with him, Gao Fei realized that Lu Hao wasn't a bad person, and gradually, Gao Fei let go of his prejudice against him.
"Brother Fei, are you free tonight?"
"For what?"
"To take you out for some fun," Lu Hao said cheerfully.
"Not interested!"
"Brother Fei, there's a concert at the sports arena tonight, a major star's concert. Don't you want to go check it out?"
"No interest."
"Brother Fei..."
"I said I'm not interested. Can't you understand that?" Gao Fei replied with slight annoyance.
"Come on, Brother Fei, just go with me. I promise you won't be disappointed! You healed my grandfather; it's only right that I show my gratitude. I might not have many skills, but I can at least take you out for some entertainment. Brother Fei, my good Brother Fei, please say yes, Brother Fei... Brother Fei..." Lu Hao pleaded persistently.
...
Worn down by Lu Hao's persistent cajoling, Gao Fei finally agreed reluctantly.
"Brother Fei, I knew you would agree! I'm gonna go get ready and will come back to get you later," said Lu Hao, leaving excitedly.
Shortly after, the Lu family's servants brought the meal, which included a plate of yellow croaker, a plate of braised pork, and a bowl of lotus seed soup. Additionally, there were some cold dishes and a bottle of vintage red wine—a very lavish meal. Gao Fei picked up his chopsticks and started to eat and drink.
Once he had his fill, Lu Hao arrived, right on time.
"Brother Fei, let's go," said Lu Hao, pulling Gao Fei along as they hastened away.
Just as they descended the stairs, they ran into Lu Qingshan, who paused and asked, "What's going on here?"
"Oh, Brother Fei and I are just going out for a stroll to relax, we'll be back soon," Lu Hao responded with a smile.
"Out to relax? Alright then, just be careful," Lu Qingshan cautioned them. In fact, he didn't like Lu Hao going out late at night for leisure and had argued with him about it on numerous occasions. However, today, he refrained from preventing them, out of respect for Gao Fei.
