Chapter 9: Assimilating Bloodline of a beast.

Kayode pressed deeper into the dense forest, his senses sharp. The air around him was alive with tension, and the faint rustle of leaves suggested that unseen creatures were watching his every move. On his shoulder, Oba lounged lazily, his golden eyes half-closed.

"Something's up," Kayode muttered, his grip on his staff tightening.

"Of course something's up," Oba replied, yawning. "There's a treasure nearby. And with treasure comes trouble."

"How do you even know that?"

Oba lazily stretched, his claws gleaming in the dim light. "Because I'm not blind. Unlike someone I could name."

Kayode ignored the jab and pressed on until he reached a clearing. At its center stood an ancient stone pedestal, covered in intricate carvings. Atop it rested a glowing orb, pulsating faintly with golden light.

"That's definitely a treasure," Kayode whispered.

"Very perceptive," Oba replied, leaping down from his shoulder. "Now take a good look around. Do you see it?"

Kayode squinted, and his heart sank. Surrounding the pedestal were faint markings on the ground, forming an intricate array. Then the air rippled, and a massive creature emerged from the shadows.

It was unlike anything Kayode had ever seen. A mixture of a spider and ant eater, blend of fur and scales covered its massive frame, and its six legs moved with terrifying precision. Its glowing green eyes locked onto him, and its three tails lashed the air, crackling with energy.

"A Guardian Beast," the system announced. "This creature is a three tailed golden silk eater the peak of the Foundation Establishment realm. It has taken a liking to the treasure and wants to protect the treasure, so, you have to pass through it to get the treasure."

Kayode groaned. "Peak Foundation Establishment? I barely just reached Mid-Foundation Establishment! Why does this keep happening to me?"

Oba sat calmly, licking his paw. "Because fate is a comedian. Handle it, human. Let's see if you're worth my time."

The beast roared, its three tails slamming into the ground, sending a shockwave that tore through the clearing. Kayode rolled to the side, barely avoiding the attack.

"System!" he shouted. "What are my options here?"

"Fight smarter," the system replied smugly. "You could try using Bloodline Devourer—"

Kayode cut it off. "No way! That technique is..."

"—the only thing keeping you alive right now," the system interrupted.

Kayode's grip on his staff tightened as the beast charged. It swiped with one massive claw, forcing Kayode to block with his staff. The impact sent him skidding back, his arms trembling from the force.

Oba chuckled. "Looks like you don't have a choice."

"Fine!" Kayode growled, retreating to gain some distance. "I'll use it. But this better work!"

He activated Bloodline Devourer, and dark tendrils of energy surged from his body, reaching toward the Guardian Beast. The creature roared in defiance, its own Qi flaring up in resistance.

"Focus, Kayode!" the system urged. "You need to dominate its will!"

Kayode closed his eyes, channeling his Qi into the tendrils. Slowly, the beast's resistance weakened. The tendrils wrapped around it, drawing its energy and essence into Kayode's body.

A surge of power coursed through him, but this time, it was different. The system chimed in:

"Congratulations! Bloodline devouring technique activated. You've not only absorbed the Guardian Beast's essence but also integrated its abilities into your body. Your physical resilience, agility, and sensory perception have increased. Additionally, you've gained the technique: Tri-Tail Rend."

Kayode staggered, his body adjusting to the influx of power. His senses sharpened, and he could feel the strength of the Guardian Beast now coursing through his veins.

He looked up to see the beast, now lifeless, dissolving into particles of light.

"Did… did I just become part beast?" Kayode asked, his voice shaky.

Oba leapt back onto his shoulder, smirking. "Not bad, human. You didn't die. That's an improvement."

Kayode ignored the cat and approached the pedestal. As he touched the glowing orb, a rush of energy flooded his body.

"Treasure obtained," the system announced. "Orb of Elemental Harmony. This artifact will enhance your cultivation speed and balance your elemental Qi."

Kayode exhaled, feeling the orb's calming energy settle into his core.

"System," he said, "does this mean I can absorb and keep powers from any bloodline I devour?"

"Correct," the system replied. "But be cautious. Assimilating too many bloodlines too quickly could destabilize your body. Master each one before moving on."

Kayode nodded, his determination renewed. He turned to Oba. "So? Was that impressive enough for you?"

Oba yawned. "You're getting there. But don't get cocky. The world out there is much tougher than this oversized spider."

Kayode sighed, holding the orb tightly. "Great. More chaos."

Oba purred, his golden eyes glinting with amusement. "And you wouldn't have it any other way."

As they left the clearing, the weight of Kayode's newfound strength and the challenges ahead settled heavily on his shoulders. But for the first time, he felt like he was beginning to understand his place in this chaotic world.
