My Manor

Chapter 104: Are you kidding?

The composition of an NBA team is not much different from that of a large multinational corporation.

In addition to the boss and the board of directors, the responsibilities within the club are also extremely strict.

There is the general manager, deputy general manager, scout department, finance department, publicity department, internal affairs department, legal department, marketing department, and human resources department. It can be said that there are hundreds of people in these peripheral departments that support the basketball team.

This does not include surrounding areas such as venue security, the person in charge of the surrounding stores, and those who manage the small vendors. In addition to these non-basketball-related personnel, many people are involved in basketball matters.

The scout department mentioned above is naturally counted among them. Generally speaking, the scout department is overseen by the general manager or the head coach, depending on who has more influence within the team—the department manager or the head coach.

If it is the Lakers, it is probably under the general manager's command. If it is the Spurs, it must be under the head coach's command.

The current Celtics, with Brad Stevens still being young, have their scouting department under the control of General Manager Danny Ainge. As for how many people are in the scouting department, that's uncertain.

However, there must be at least six or seven official scouts, plus their assistants, as they are responsible for different regions.

There are scouts for the NCAA in the West, Central, and East of the United States, those responsible for high schools, those covering lower leagues, and those assigned to international regions like Europe, Asia, South America, and Australia. NBA teams place great importance on the construction of scouting departments. After all, what is most important in this era? Talent!

In addition to scouts, there are also many nutritionists in the cafeteria, and naturally, many assistant coaches.

Just like in games, a head coach sometimes has as many as a dozen assistant coaches.

First, there must be a head assistant coach responsible for organizing and rehearsing the tactics prepared by the head coach. Then, there are offensive tactics coaches, defensive tactics coaches, and physical coaches—these are the three most basic types of coaches. Under these coaches, there are also subdivisions, such as shooting coaches, basket offense coaches, positioning coaches, and defensive drill coaches. Physical coaches are also divided into basic physical coaches, strength coaches, assault coaches, and so on. Additionally, there are team doctors.

In short, the NBA club is a huge organization, not as simple as Jiang Hai saw on TV.

With so many people, it is naturally impossible to squeeze in with the players, so they have their own separate office buildings. Of course, some teams work together to save space, or because their original training center is large enough.

For example, the training centers of the Cavaliers and Mavericks are as luxurious as their home courts, but the Celtics, a century-old team, have never been known for their wealth.

So naturally, they must save money wherever possible. Now, Jiang Hai and his team have arrived at another building.

Although the two buildings are separate, they are connected by a sky bridge, so there is no need to walk outside, which makes things more convenient.

Not long after, Jiang Hai was brought by Avery Bradley to an office. He knocked on the door respectfully. Not long after, the voice of Danny Ainge, whom he had just met, came from inside. The two of them pushed the door and walked in.

As for John and Louis, they were very observant and went to the parking lot to wait for Jiang Hai. It would be better for outsiders like them not to be present when discussing the contract.

"Sir, I brought Jiang Hai here." After entering the office, Avery Bradley said to the elderly man sitting behind the desk, and Jiang Hai nodded to him in greeting.

"Okay, Avery, go back to training first. I'm looking forward to your performance tonight." Looking at the two people who entered, Danny Ainge chuckled and said to Avery Bradley. Hearing his words, Bradley did not say much but turned around and left directly. Before leaving, he patted Jiang Hai on the shoulder, and Jiang Hai could only curl his lips.

He probably knew what these people were going to say, but he really had no interest in becoming a professional player. He played basketball mainly for fun, not for making money. Whether it was for money, a leisurely life, or his own condition, staying in the manor was the best choice. Don't forget, Jiang Hai was still counting on his True Dragon Spirit to level up.

But now that he was here, he might as well listen to what they had to say. At his signal, Jiang Hai sat on the sofa opposite Danny Ainge.

"Since you're here, Mr. Jiang Hai, I think we should get straight to the point. I think our team needs you. This is a short 10-day contract. If there are no problems, I think you can sign it. This is an opportunity. If we are satisfied with your performance within ten days, you will receive a guaranteed contract until the end of the season." Seeing Jiang Hai sit down, Danny Ainge on the opposite side clearly didn't have the time or energy to engage with Jiang Hai, an unknown kid, and spoke directly.

Hearing Danny Ainge's words, Jiang Hai was stunned.

"Sorry, did you just say a 10-day short contract?" Although Jiang Hai had no intention of becoming a professional player, what kind of contract was this? With such strong performance, he was only offered a 10-day contract? Jiang Hai felt insulted, as this was a term often seen on domestic NBA forums.

"Yes, I think you know your situation better than we do. You are not a registered player of the Players' Union. We need to help you register. Also, you haven't received formal training. You're 27 years old with no potential. But since you can sit in front of me, it means you've proven with your strength that you deserve a chance. I'm willing to trust Brad, so we're offering you this opportunity." After hearing Jiang Hai's words, Danny Ainge said with an unchanged expression.

"Well, maybe Bradley didn't explain things clearly to you. First of all, I'm used to being lazy. I came here today just to test the limits of my body, so I have no intention of joining you. Secondly, even if I wanted to join, I wouldn't sign a 10-day short contract. Don't worry, just listen to me. I'm not some Asian teenager with big dreams. I live and die for basketball, and fight for it all my life, but that's not my original intention. I'm a manor owner. My manor is on the outskirts of Boston, in Winthrop. It's a huge manor that combines ranches, fisheries, and wineries." Looking at Danny Ainge in front of him, Jiang Hai said calmly.

"I just spent $280 million to buy this manor this year. I'm not saying this to show off my wealth. I know that compared to some famous stars or team owners, $280 million is nothing special, but I just want to tell you that I'm not short of money, so I think our conversation about the contract can end here." Jiang Hai cleared his throat and said seriously to Danny Ainge.

Hearing Jiang Hai's words, Danny Ainge was stunned.

It was the first time he had seen such a brilliant rookie. What was this guy thinking?

"Although I feel very sorry, our conversation may end here." But Danny Ainge was no stranger to such situations. If someone tried to pretend to be tough with him, well, he'd seen it all.

However, Jiang Hai didn't argue. He simply stood up, shook hands with him, and left his office.

Although he was in a bad mood afterward, Jiang Hai was generally happy that day. At least now he knew where his limit was. After leaving Danny Ainge's office, he didn't go back to talk to Avery Bradley or Brad Stevens about this matter but went straight to the parking lot downstairs, where the Turner brothers had been waiting for a long time.

"Hey, man, how is it? Did they sign you?" John asked as soon as he saw Jiang Hai.

"No." Shrugging his shoulders, Jiang Hai didn't elaborate. It was too embarrassing to say he was offered a 10-day contract when he was actually a billionaire.

"That's a pity, but man, with your physical fitness, it would be a waste if you signed it. With your physical fitness, you should play football!" Looking at Jiang Hai, John immediately said. Well, it seemed his true love was still football.

"Okay, we should go back!" He casually opened the door to his F650 and sat in the driver's seat. Then, under the envious eyes of John and Louis, he stepped on the accelerator and sped toward the exit of the parking lot.

"That's the car a man should drive!" Louis muttered softly, looking at Jiang Hai's back.

"Okay, brother, with your salary, you can't even think about it in this life." Hearing Louis's sigh, John couldn't help but pour cold water on him, then smiled and got into the passenger seat of Louis' car.

Hearing his brother's words, Louis couldn't help but smack his lips. Yes, with his current salary, forget it!

He helplessly lowered his head, got into the car, and then stepped on the accelerator, speeding toward the exit.

Just as Jiang Hai and the others were leaving, Brad Stevens walked into Danny Ainge's office in the office building with a laptop in his hand. However, when he found the office empty, he was stunned.

"Danny, where is Jiang?" Brad Stevens asked in surprise, looking at Danny Ainge in front of him.

"Although I don't know how strong the guy you and Avery are, his personality is really not suitable for being a player. When I put the contract in front of him, he was dissatisfied and left directly." Shrugging his shoulders, Danny Ainge said with a smile.

"Oh, who is special, you should keep him, he is the new basketball god, my God!" Hearing Danny Ainge's words, even Brad couldn't help but swear, threw down the laptop in his hand, and left in a hurry.

"Is it that serious?" Seeing Brad's loss of composure, Danny Ainge was stunned for a moment, and then smiled self-deprecatingly. The new basketball god? He hadn't expected the new basketball god to look like a Chinese. Then he saw the computer Brad had put down, which seemed to have a video. Out of curiosity, Danny Ainge clicked the play button.
