Chapter 202: Midnight Call (E)
Ring Ring
Ring Ring
"Ugh…" Diana groaned in irritation and tiredness as she reached her hand towards her phone and finally picked it up.
"Hell—"
Before she could even finish her word properly, a hurried voice came from the other side, "Hello! I just picked this phone up from Yorker Street. The owner of this phone just got into an accident a few minutes ago and was sent to the hospital."
The hurried voice informed and fully woke Diana from her drowsiness.
"What!" she exclaimed and immediately looked at the caller's name.
'Jin!!' Her mind jolted the very next second, and she immediately stuck the phone to her ear and asked, "What happened?!... NO! Is he fine? Where was he sent to?!"
"His car got completely overturned… his face was covered in blood… from the wreckage I can see here, it must be very serious. The ambulance belonged to Timroy Hospital, so he must be sent there!" the person explained.
"Thank you!" Diana immediately hung up the call and rushed out of her apartment a few seconds later.
She accelerated her scooter to the maximum speed possible and immediately reached Timroy Hospital, which was almost twenty kilometres away from her place.
Parking her vehicle by the side, she rushed towards the reception.
"A man in his early 20s… his car got overturned on Yorker Street!" Diana anxiously tried to explain and was directed towards the emergency ward.
She bolted towards the emergency ward. With each step, her heart was beating faster and faster. When she reached there, she grabbed a nearby nurse by her shoulders and asked with trembling hands, "J-Jin! Where is he??"
Caught by surprise, the nurse took a couple of seconds to process Diana's words, but seeing Diana's frenzied expression soon directed her to the bed, which had a curtain drawn to it.
Diana immediately let go of her shoulders and rushed towards the bed.
She and the other few nurses glanced at each other and softly muttered, "Is she his girlfriend?"
"...I have no idea," another muttered. They too had only realised that the patient was Jin Blaker, the famous actor, after they had wiped his bloodied face clean with sterile water.
Curious, they all glanced towards Diana's figure.
Worried to death, Diana immediately whipped the curtain aside and called out his name, "Jin!"
"...Diana?" Jin stared at Diana's figure in shock and surprise. She looked completely breathless, her hair was dishevelled, and her forehead and neck were covered in sweat.
Looking at the cotton gauze which was wrapped around his forehead and the bruises on Jin's face and hands, Diana's heart ached, but more than that, a deep sense of relief flooded her heart, and she involuntarily hugged him tightly.
"...I thought I almost lost you," she muttered as tears poured out of her eyes and drenched Jin's neck.
Feeling the familiar warmth which he had lost all hope of experiencing again a few months ago, Jin choked on the words he was about to say and hugged her back.
"...I-It's alright. Nothing happened to me," he comforted her with her words.
Cough!
It was only when she heard the cough that Diana realised what she had just done.
She awkwardly pushed herself away from Jin's embrace. Looking at Jin's confused expression, she felt both embarrassed and ashamed, and this came out as anger the very next moment.
"How could you be so careless while driving?! What if you had gotten more hurt?" she scolded harshly.
However, listening to it, there was not a single trace of anger on Jin's face. Instead, a smile formed on it. The doctor and the nurses also smiled when they heard her worry-filled scoldings.
Feeling as if Jin was making fun of her, she fumed, "Are you crazy? What are you smiling for? I'm serio-"
"Thank you for coming here, Diana," Jin said with a wholehearted smile.
"You-" Hearing such an unexpected reply, her breathing stopped all of a sudden as a flush of heat rose to her face.
Realising this, she felt very embarrassed and rushed out of the scene, "I-I'm going to the washroom!"
Jin sighed in relief when he saw her acting like this before turning towards the doctor.
"Yes, doctor, how are my results?" he asked.
"Your blood tests and X-rays were all normal. No bones were broken, and you only suffered from minor wounds around your body. The only major wound was the gash at the side of your head, but that's all stitched up now, so there's no need to worry," he informed with a smile. It wasn't every day that he got to see an actor in the ER.
"Is that so? I'm glad," Jin sighed and asked, "Does that mean I can leave now?"
"You can, though I would suggest spending a night here just in case there are further complications," the doctor advised.
"I'll do that then," Jin nodded and was about to go and look for Diana when he noticed the doctor taking out his phone.
"Also… if you don't mind, can I take a picture with you?" the doctor asked, embarrassed. Not wanting to refuse his request, Jin agreed. However, his actions attracted quite a lot of eyes, and soon he was surrounded by nurses and other able patients who wanted to take pictures with him.
'Hopefully, this won't scare away Diana when she returns,' Jin thought to himself as he did his best to take pictures with all of them and reduce the crowd.
Meanwhile, in the washroom.
Splash! Splash!
Diana kept splashing water over her face in anger and frustration. While looking at her unkempt hair and eyes that showed signs of her crying, she couldn't help but bite her lips lightly.
'Just what had happened to me back then… how could I just hug the man who had so blatantly cheated on me?'
Just thinking about this made her angrier as she splashed water on her face a couple more times.
"Whatever! Now that he's fine, I have no reason to stay here. It's better to leave now." With this thought, she left the washroom and walked out of the hospital towards the place where her scooter was parked.
Just when she had worn her helmet and started the engine, her phone started ringing.
"Just who would call me at this hour?" With a frown, she stopped the engine and took out her phone to check the caller.
It was Jin's number. She wanted to cut the call immediately, but was soon reminded that Jin's phone was currently with someone else and not him.
"Hello?..." Diana accepted the call.
"Yes, ma'am, it's me. I had called you earlier to give this phone to you, but you hung up before I could ask for your location…" the caller said.
"Oh… I'm sorry, I was unable to think properly at the moment," Diana apologised.
"It's alright, ma'am. Are you at the hospital right now?" the caller asked.
"Y-yes, I had arrived a few minutes ago," Diana confirmed.
"Uhmm… by any chance, are you sitting on a yellow scooter right now?" the caller asked, uncertainty in his voice.
"Yes, how do you know that?" Alarmed, Diana immediately looked around herself and found a young man with a buzz cut waving his hand at her. "Ma'am, here! It's me," his voice simultaneously rang in both her phone's speaker and her other ear.
With a bright smile, the twenty-year-old man rushed towards Diana and said, "God, I'm so glad I found you here since I was getting late. Here's the phone. Please pass it to that person."
He handed Jin's phone to Diana with a smile and was about to leave when Diana suddenly asked, "Are you recently conscripted?"
"Ah, yes," he rubbed the back of his head in an embarrassed manner. "In fact, I'm going for my basic training tomorrow itself. It was when I was returning from the send-off party that my friends gave that I witnessed the accident from far away and dialled the ambulance."
Hearing that he was the one who had called for the ambulance, Diana immediately bowed her head and thanked him, "Thank you for your help. Thanks to you, he's in stable condition right now."
"I'm glad that he isn't hurt very much… and I was only doing what I was supposed to, so you need not thank me," the man awkwardly said when he saw Diana bowing her head to him.
"And that's why I'm so grateful. I hope you'll have a good time in your training," Diana smiled and wished him luck for his training.
"Thank you, ma'am!" the man nodded with a smile. "I'll be going then."
He soon sat on his bicycle and left for home.
As for Diana, she stared at the phone that was now in her hand and sighed.
