My Gene Evolves Infinitely

Chapter 7

Lu Yuan watched the muscular man’s movements with his pupils shrinking. To leave such deep imprints on solid metal was no ordinary feat. Could this man also be a Gene Warrior?

As Lu Yuan and Li Qinghe approached, the muscular man paused his training and turned to look at them. His gaze shifted from Lu Yuan to linger on Li Qinghe, his face breaking into a strange grin.

“How come you’re here?” he asked in a gruff voice.

Li Qinghe approached with a mischievous smile, playfully poking the man’s chest. “I missed you, didn’t I?” she replied flirtatiously.

The man then turned his attention to Lu Yuan. “And who’s this kid?”

“He’s my brother. I thought he could train here too, to learn how to defend himself,” Li Qinghe explained.

“Your brother? He can train here then. I won’t charge you,” the muscular man responded unexpectedly amenable, gesturing with a dismissive hand.

Lu Yuan had braced himself for a fiercer personality. Li Qinghe introduced the man, “Lu Yuan, this is the boss here, Fu Langming. You can call him Brother Ming.”

Gratefully, Lu Yuan nodded and smiled. “Thank you, Brother Ming.”

Fu Langming waved a hand dismissively, then grinned openly. “Just make yourself at home. Qinghe, come with me,” he said, turning to walk into an adjacent room.

Li Qinghe gave Lu Yuan a quirky smile and said, “Go on and look around. I’ll be inside.”

Lu Yuan was left slightly bemused, nodding silently. The complexities of adult transactions weren’t exactly meant for young eyes.

Once inside, Fu Langming quickly drew the curtains closed. Contrary to what Lu Yuan expected, Fu Langming stood erect and addressed Li Qinghe with a formal tone, “Ma’am!”

Li Qinghe, lighting a cigarette, lounging on a leather sofa, her leg elegantly crossed. “Hmm.”

Fu Langming sneaked a glance at her and hesitantly asked, “Ma’am…that young man outside, who is he really?”

“He’s just a little brother I met by chance—a good-hearted kid. He’s recently awakened his genes but hasn’t been to the Land of Origin yet. I thought it’d be good for him to train here. Keep an eye on him and teach him a bit,” Li Qinghe explained with a smile.

Realization dawned on Fu Langming, who slapped his chest as if to reassure himself. “No problem! Leave it to me!”

“Just don’t overdo it and blow our cover,” Li Qinghe warned.

“Understood,” he acknowledged.

“Hang around a bit; I’ll be out soon,” Li Qinghe added, nodding before diving back into her mobile game.

Fu Langming, looking conflicted, then said, “Ma’am, could you stay a bit longer?”

Li Qinghe looked up, her eyes narrowing. “Why?”

He coughed awkwardly, “Well, it… it doesn’t sound good if you leave too soon…”

Her smile widened at his discomfort. “Hmm?”

Quickly, Fu Langming backpedalled, “No, no, I misspoke! Whatever you say, ma’am!”

As her smile faded, Li Qinghe seemed to remember something. “Oh, and one more thing. That guy outside with the scar? I don’t want to see him around anymore.”

“Understood!” Fu Langming replied promptly.

After five minutes of gaming, Li Qinghe stood up and headed towards the door. “You don’t need to come out,” she said.

Fu Langming, who had been standing straight the entire time, breathed a sigh of relief: “Yes!”

In the corner of the gym, Lu Yuan, who was practising Military Style Boxing, quickly approached Li Qinghe as she emerged, “Sister Qinghe, are you okay?”

Li Qinghe’s face carried an ambiguous smile, “What could possibly be wrong? Brother Ming and I go way back.”

Lu Yuan fell silent for a moment before speaking, “Thanks for this, Sister Qinghe.”

“I’m just looking forward to the day you make it big and can take me away from this place,” Li Qinghe said with a pat on his shoulder and a laugh.

Lu Yuan looked at her earnestly and nodded, “Don’t worry, I will.”

“Let’s talk about the future later. Brother Ming has agreed to let you train here. Once he comes out, you should go and ask him,” she advised.

Lu Yuan nodded in agreement.

“I’m heading back now; I’m really tired,” Li Qinghe said as she yawned, then she bid farewell to Lu Yuan and left the dojo.

Lu Yuan continued his training in Military Style Boxing. It wasn’t long before Fu Langming also came out, his face wearing a satisfied smile. Lu Yuan glanced at him and then looked down modestly.

Fu Langming walked over to Lu Yuan, his smile revealing his white teeth: “Lu Yuan, right? I heard from Qinghe that you want to train in Body Technique here. Are you learning Military Style Boxing and Military Style Killing Sword?”

“Yes, that’s right,” Lu Yuan nodded.

Fu Langming assessed Lu Yuan briefly and then said, “Show me what you’ve got.”

Lu Yuan took a deep breath and started to practice his Military Style Boxing. His skills in boxing, although just learned a day ago and not very smooth, were powered by his significant strength. Even though he was not proficient, his punches carried an imposing force.

Initially, Fu Langming didn’t pay much attention but gradually his expression turned serious as he watched the force of the punches, a look of surprise emerging on his face. The power displayed by these punches did not seem like they belonged to someone who had just awakened and had never been to the Land of Origin.

After completing a set, Lu Yuan was slightly flushed and breathing a bit heavily. He turned to Fu Langming and noticed his astonished expression.

“What’s the matter?” Lu Yuan paused.

Returning to his senses, Fu Langming asked with a slightly strange look, “Qinghe mentioned you awakened the day before yesterday?”

“Yes, that’s correct. Brother Ming, is there a problem?” Lu Yuan nodded.

Fu Langming was silent for a moment, then said, “Come, hit me with a punch.”

Lu Yuan was taken aback, “You want me to hit you?”

“What? Afraid you’ll hurt me? Just do it,” Fu Langming said, his impatience evident.

Lu Yuan reluctantly complied. Gathering his strength, he took a stance and delivered a powerful punch, generating a strong gust of wind as his fist aimed for Fu Langming’s chest.

Feeling the force of the punch, Fu Langming’s pupils slightly narrowed. He raised his large palm, easily blocking Lu Yuan’s fist. Lu Yuan felt like his fist had hit an iron wall, unable to make any further impact, while Fu Langming’s body didn’t even sway.

This confirmed to Lu Yuan just how vast the gap was between his and Fu Langming’s strengths. He was still very weak.

As Lu Yuan was lost in thought, Fu Langming spoke up, “…Did you really just awaken?”

Lu Yuan looked at him perplexedly, aware that he had asked this question for the second time.

Does something seem off about me?

Lu Yuan felt puzzled.

“Yes, I just awakened.”

Fu Langming gave Lu Yuan a peculiar look, “How long did it take you to sense the Spiritual Qi for the first time, and how long did it take to absorb it?”

Lu Yuan was startled, realizing where the problem might lie.

Did he seem too powerful?

Does his strength not seem typical for a newly awakened Gene Warrior?

He certainly couldn’t admit that he could sense Spiritual Qi without even meditating; that would be too unbelievable.

After thinking it over, Lu Yuan responded, “It took less than half a day to absorb the Spiritual Qi.”

A moment is technically less than half a day, right?

Lu Yuan revised his statement.

Hearing this, Fu Langming’s eyes widened.

Then he cleared his throat and smiled, “Ah… Lu Yuan, right? Since Qinghe has entrusted you to me, and seeing that you have decent talent, I’ll reluctantly take you on as my apprentice, what do you say?”

Lu Yuan was somewhat taken aback and asked, “Are you strong, Brother Ming?”

“I…”

Fu Langming was about to speak but then remembered Qinghe’s earlier caution and forcibly closed his mouth.

He said, “Well, I’ve only just advanced to the first rank of warrior, but I will become very strong in the future!”

Lu Yuan thought, Is that it? Just a warrior level?

That’s not much stronger than me, right? I at least have unlimited potential.

Finding himself at a loss for words, Lu Yuan forced a smile and said, “Brother Ming is really impressive, but I haven’t started college yet. Let’s talk about it once I’ve begun my studies.”

Hearing Lu Yuan’s words, Fu Langming frowned slightly, clearly picking up on Lu Yuan’s evasive tone.

But remembering that Qinghe had brought Lu Yuan here, he dared not do anything to him and could only put on a forced smile, nodding, “Alright, we’ll talk when you’re in college.”

Lu Yuan looked at Fu Langming with surprise. He had thought Fu Langming would get angry, but instead, he hadn’t shown any anger.

He seems like a decent guy.

But from now on, I might need to keep a low profile.

Especially when it’s not safe, I shouldn’t appear too capable.

Fu Langming continued, “If you want to get good at physical techniques, practising alone won’t cut it. I’ll set you up with some sparring partners. You need to practice against them!”

With that, he turned to a robust man practising boxing not far away and called out, “Xiao Hu!”

The robust man turned around, his face breaking into a simple grin as he jogged over, “Brother Ming!”

“Right, you help this kid on the training floor.”

“Uh? This sprout?” Xiao Hu glanced at Lu Yuan and couldn’t help but look distressed, “I’m afraid I might not hold back and end up hurting him… Maybe someone else should spar?”

Hearing this, Lu Yuan arched an eyebrow but said nothing.

“Quit your whining, it’s you! Or do you want me to spar with you?”

Hearing this, Xiao Hu immediately became serious, “Alright, I’ll do it!”

Fu Langming then nodded in satisfaction.
