Chapter 10
Later, Lu Yuan continued his discussion with Fu Langming about Gene Warriors until evening arrived.
Lu Yuan bid farewell to Fu Langming and returned to his small compartment. He sat on the bed and turned his head to look out the window.
Beneath the quiet night sky, the distant neon lights flickered, sketching out the bustling scene of Xili City.
Lu Yuan took a deep breath, calming his tense emotions before closing his eyes.
“Let’s begin.”
His consciousness merged with the genetic war pattern. The golden lines on the genetic war pattern began to emit a faint glow.
In Lu Yuan’s mind, a white mist swirled near the gene chain, forming a gate of light. Although he had never entered before, his instincts told him that this gate led to the Land of Origin.
Lu Yuan pursed his lips and moved his consciousness closer to the light gate.
The next moment, his consciousness went dark, and when Lu Yuan opened his eyes again, he was greeted by a blazing red sun. His body immediately felt the scorching heat and dry air.
Lu Yuan looked around; he was in a vast square, surrounded by numerous ochre buildings.
The sky was a dull yellow, filled with sand.
A look of astonishment appeared in Lu Yuan’s eyes.
The Land of Origin was truly marvellous, having transported him to an unfamiliar place with such ease.
It is said that all intelligent species in the universe can access the Land of Origin. This means that the Land of Origin is connected to the entire universe! No one knows where the Land of Origin is located in the universe or why it is connected to all intelligent species.
The clamour of voices brought Lu Yuan back from his astonishment.
“Need a Guardian Warrior for the lair of the yellow sandworms! Elves only!”
“Elite Genetic Elemental Warrior leading a party to the Gobi to hunt Sand Scorpions! Any race welcome, except for Gnolls!”
“A Human newbie is looking for a Human team, any veterans willing to show a newbie around?”
Lu Yuan listened to the market-like noises, his expression turning peculiar. Many creatures were gathered in the square, calling out to form groups.
Lu Yuan noticed that aside from humans, there were other species present.
Elves, often featured in Earth’s fantasy tales, with their tall, slender bodies, pointed ears, and handsome features.
Gnolls with dog-like heads.
And when he saw a beautiful being with cat ears and a tail that swished back and forth, Lu Yuan’s eyes widened.
Was the cat here to repay a favour?!
What old pervert could resist those cat ears and tails?!
Lu Yuan was secretly thrilled. What a marvellous world this was!
In the square, only Humans, Elves, Gnolls, and Catkin were present.
This starting city was a city of these four races. As for its location, Lu Yuan had a good idea.
The intense heat, the yellow sand of the square, and the murky air were characteristic of a desert or steppe region.
Among the four initial cities of the Daqi Star’s human race, only Sandstone City was located in such a region.
Recalling the data he had seen on Sandstone City, it was positioned in a desert area, surrounded by sand and steppe, with mostly rock, poison, and wind-type monsters.
As Lu Yuan was reminiscing about the surrounding environment and the creatures, someone tapped his shoulder.
Lu Yuan frowned slightly and turned around.
A handsome Elf in yellow leather armour stood there with a smile.
“Human friend, are you alone?”
Lu Yuan raised an eyebrow and replied with a smile, “Is there something you need?”
“Haha, we’re about to hunt some Grey Stone Beetles. Care to join? We’ll split the profits based on contribution.”
The Elf pointed to his companions behind him, which included a tall, thin Elf, a Gnoll, and another Human.
Lu Yuan glanced at them, shook his head and said, “No thank you.”
He turned to leave, but the Elf man stopped him, “Hey, friend, don’t go. It’s dangerous to adventure alone out here. Why not join us?”
Lu Yuan glanced at him and smiled, “Who said I’m alone? My friend is already waiting for me outside.”
Hearing this, the Elf man’s smile stiffened, “Oh, you already have a partner? Alright then. I won’t bother you anymore.”
He stepped aside, letting Lu Yuan pass.
The Elf man muttered under his breath, “Really bad luck.”
The three nearby creatures approached.
The Gnoll chuckled, “Boss, how did it go?”
“He has friends waiting outside.”
Upon hearing this, the three creatures all showed disappointment, “Too bad, that guy looked like a newbie just from his reactions. Didn’t expect he’d have someone with him.”
“Let’s find another target.”
The Elf man sighed, “Newcomers are getting harder to deceive. Maybe we need to change our approach?”
“Changing tactics is tough. How about we hold a meeting to upgrade our scams?”
“That might work. If it doesn’t, we’ll just go out and hunt the Grey Stone Beetles.”
“Alright.”
…
Lu Yuan left the square, observing his surroundings.
The streets of Sandstone City were covered in yellow sand, and the buildings on either side were made of yellow rock, with rock giants walking about.
Lu Yuan had read about this in a previous post.
Each starting city has its constructs, brought by the Land of Origin, to keep the city running at a basic level.
These rock giants are Sandstone City’s constructs, tasked with maintaining public order.
No fighting is allowed within the city.
Sandstone City is large, and because Lu Yuan was pressed for time, he ran, spending two hours before he reached the city wall.
The wall, also made of yellow rock, was about thirty meters high.
Unknown large cannons were positioned on the wall, and constructs patrolled the area.
Lu Yuan reached the city gate, guarded by two constructs, but there were no checks; all Gene Warriors could freely leave or enter Sandstone City.
Exiting the gate, Lu Yuan was greeted by a desolate Gobi, with howling winds and sand filling the air. Lu Yuan covered his nose, feeling slightly discomforted.
Each of the four initial Human cities had its own harsh environment. Like Stormwind City, surrounded by storms that could accidentally blow someone into the air.
But Sandstone City’s issue was severe air pollution, breathing here meant inhaling half sand. It was quite unbearable.
Lu Yuan determined his direction and headed toward the right side of Sandstone City.
His destination was a region known as the Ash Stone Forest.
The primary menace there, the Ash Stone Beetle, was among the weaker creatures even for a novice.
The chance of these beetles dropping a Battle Soul was almost nil, but their stone shells were valuable for crafting Genetic Armaments and could be sold for money. For Lu Yuan, this was a safe bet.
Since he didn’t have a mount from the Land of Origin, Lu Yuan had to rely on his legs.
Two hours later, after running, Lu Yuan entered the Land of Origin. Four hours in, he finally reached a Gobi filled with grey stone columns.
This was the Ash Stone Forest.
The Gobi seemed endless; some bored Gene Warriors had even measured this area’s size before. Ash Stone Forest spanned nearly a hundred kilometres, incredibly vast.
Lu Yuan exhaled, took a big gulp of water from his barrel, and ate some energy bars.
Running all the way, he felt nearly desiccated.
After refuelling, Lu Yuan slowed down to recover and then continued into Ash Stone Forest. Shortly after entering, Lu Yuan heard fighting noises ahead.
He looked forward, where two Catkin, one wielding a long sword and the other a bow and arrow, were attacking a grey beetle the size of a small dog.
Around them lay five or six other Ash Stone Beetle corpses.
The Catkin wielding the bow demonstrated excellent archery skills. Drawing the bow, the arrow transformed into a streak of light and buried itself into the eye of the Ash Stone Beetle.
Instant kill.
Lu Yuan couldn’t help but his pupils constrict in awe.
This area lacked valuable resources, so powerhouses would rarely visit.
Mostly, it attracted newly awakened Gene Warriors who lacked the strength to explore other regions. Still, the disparities in strength were apparent.
Lu Yuan felt that he might not be able to defeat that archer one-on-one at this point.
He was indeed a newbie and needed to work harder to become a pillar of the Human Clan!
Lu Yuan bolstered himself with these thoughts before quietly leaving.
Fighting wasn’t prohibited outside the city, and conflicts could erupt between different races or even among the same race.
Dying here would be a huge loss.
To be cautious, Lu Yuan intentionally moved in a direction where there were no sounds of combat.
After about twenty more minutes, the area became very quiet.
Just then, Lu Yuan spotted an Ash Stone Beetle under a stone column ahead, its massive mandibles gnawing at the rock. The crunching sound indicated it was enjoying its meal.
Lu Yuan’s eyes lit up.
He hadn’t expected to encounter a lone Ash Stone Beetle—what a stroke of luck.
Finally! A chance to test his skills in a real fight!
