Chapter 389: Sharpshooter!
Hearing this, the stall owner panicked. He hurriedly said, "Okay, okay! Go ahead and toss, but just this once!"
The child beamed.
The second oldest of Lin Feng's children comforted him, "Don't cry. My dad is so skilled; he'll definitely win one for you."
The youngest child also piped up, "Just tell my dad which one you like, and he'll win it for you."
The remaining Barbie dolls and Transformers were all identical, so there was no real choice. Yet, Lin Feng still asked, "Which one do you like?"
By that point, for the little boy, just getting a toy would have been wonderful.
"Uncle, I like all of them! Just pick one!"
Lin Feng chose the one in the middle, as its packaging looked a bit newer. He tossed the ring, and it landed perfectly on the target in one go.
The child leaped for joy. "Yay, that's amazing, he won! I have a toy now!"
The stall owner handed the toy to the child and asked Lin Feng with a hint of resentment, "Do you want to play again?"
Lin Feng just smiled and shook his head. "No, we're done."
The owner visibly relaxed. "Well, off you go then!"
As Lin Feng led his wife and children away, the little boy came pattering over and said sweetly, "Thank you, Uncle!"
Lin Feng smiled. "You're welcome!"
Perhaps because it was a holiday, there were all sorts of carnival games around. There were stalls for popping balloons to win prizes and others for knocking down cans with beanbags to get a doll. This was the first time the children had seen anything like it, and they were fascinated.
At the balloon-shooting game, it cost ten yuan per round, with the prize determined by the number of balloons popped.
Lin Feng picked up a toy rifle. "I used to play this back when I was in school. It's been many years."
Zhang Yuxi shook her head. "I've never played before!"
Lin Feng struck a pose. "This is the kind of game boys love to play!"
The moment he finished speaking, he started shooting. POP! POP! POP!
The balloons on the wall burst one after another as the children watched their father with adoring eyes.
"Wow, Daddy is so incredible!"
"Daddy, you're my hero!"
"Daddy, I want to play, too! I want to play!"
In just a few moments, Lin Feng had used all his pellets, hitting every single target.
The stall owner smiled. "You're quite the marksman. Did you serve in the army?"
Lin Feng shook his head. "No."
The owner took a small doll from a bag. "I didn't think so. You look so fair and young to have children this big."
Among the owner's grand prizes was a white teddy bear that was nearly a meter tall. The second child's eyes lit up; she wanted it more than anything.
The owner saw her expression and said with a smile, "To win that prize, you have to play five rounds and get a perfect score each time."
The white bear looked to be of good quality and would likely be expensive to buy outright. Winning five rounds in a row seemed well worth it.
The owner proposed, "How about it? Play four more rounds? If you win, the big bear goes to your kids. Look how much they want it."
Lin Feng nodded. "Alright."
The children were thrilled. Lin Feng smiled at them. "Daddy will do his best to win, but if I can't win the toy, there's nothing I can do. I'll try my hardest, okay?"
The two children chorused, "Okay!"
While Lin Feng was talking to his children, the owner quickly swapped the rifle he had used for another one.
Zhang Yuxi noticed and whispered, "Honey, she switched the gun."
Lin Feng understood these carnival tricks all too well. "They rig these toy guns," he explained quietly. "The sights are off, so the chance of hitting anything is very low."
Zhang Yuxi was indignant. "Then let's not play!"
Lin Feng smiled. "We've already paid."
Zhang Yuxi pursed her lips. "Then let's get our money back and expose her trick."
Lin Feng shook his head. "It's no use. You don't have any proof there's something wrong with the gun." He paused, then added confidently, "Don't worry, though. Your husband used to play these games a lot. I definitely have a way to win."
He had undergone the Purification and Marrow Cleansing; it certainly hadn't been for nothing!
The owner smiled as she handed the new rifle to Lin Feng.
Lin Feng gave the owner a knowing, half-smiling glance, which made her feel a little unnerved.
On the second round, Lin Feng hit every single target. The owner eyed the toy rifle with suspicion.
On the third round, to no one's surprise, Lin Feng once again hit every target.
The owner was clearly losing face. Lin Feng's family was so strikingly attractive, and his shooting posture was so cool, that a large crowd had gathered to watch.
Expressionless, Lin Feng began his fourth round.
The owner was getting restless. "You're really good at this!"
Lin Feng replied meaningfully, "Not at all. It's your gun that's amazing."
The implication was clear.
On the fifth and final round, Lin Feng hit every target again, his shots landing in quick succession. The owner very reluctantly brought out the giant teddy bear. This was her shop's prized possession. But as they say, you have to use good bait to catch a fish; she had spent a pretty penny on this bear just to attract customers.
The toy was so large that the children couldn't carry it on their own.
Lin Feng held the huge bear and said with a smile, "Let's go!"
After walking a few steps, he glanced back and saw the owner scrutinizing her rifle, turning it over and over in her hands with a look of pure existential doubt.
Zhang Yuxi hugged Lin Feng's arm. "Honey, you're so amazing!"
Lin Feng smiled and whispered something in her ear.
Zhang Yuxi's face, against her will, turned bright red.
Up ahead was a small snack bar, where Lin Feng's family ran into the little boy from earlier. The boy's dad bought each of Lin Feng's kids a grilled sausage and some other snacks. Lin Feng's children glanced at him, not immediately accepting the treats.
Lin Feng smiled and said, "Go on, thank the nice uncle!"
The kids happily chirped, "Thank you, Uncle!"
The boy's father looked at the giant bear and asked, "Did you win this, too?"
In just a moment, the youngest child had almost finished her sausage. "My daddy won it from the shooting game! He's super good at it!"
The second child quickly added, "He played five times and got first place every time!"
The boy's dad laughed. "Wow, your dad is really incredible!"
The oldest, who was eating in small, dainty bites, said emphatically, "Daddy is super-duper amazing!"
The youngest child finished her sausage, tossed the bamboo skewer, and pointed to a small, rideable toy excavator not far off. "Daddy, I want to play on that!"
Lin Feng had no objections and took the kids over to have a look.
The little boy had to go home, and he waved goodbye to Lin Feng's family reluctantly. He asked the second child, "Will you guys come play here again tomorrow?"
Munching on her sausage, she replied, "I dunno! You'll have to ask my daddy!"
