My Coldhearted Husband’s Regret

Chapter 55 - Strategic Positioning

Isaac and Huxley had strategic reasons for attending the tech expo. Building industry connections was their primary objective.

When Cullen made his entrance, both men shifted their focus. They watched him carefully while maintaining their networking facade, eager to witness his reaction to encountering Veronica.

What they observed left them stunned. Cullen's gaze swept over Veronica as if she were invisible. No flicker of recognition crossed his features. No pause in his stride. He treated her with the indifference reserved for complete strangers.

The whispered stories suddenly made sense. Years ago, Veronica had allegedly manipulated circumstances to trap Cullen into marriage. His feelings toward her had never evolved beyond cold obligation.

Throughout their brief marriage, Cullen had avoided their shared home like a plague house. His only consistent emotion regarding his wife was revulsion.

The rumors were proving accurate before their very eyes.

Conference staff began herding the key company representatives toward the main auditorium. The summary meeting was scheduled to commence shortly.

DataPulse's delegation consisted of Dario and Veronica walking side by side toward the entrance.

Isaac and Huxley exchanged incredulous looks as Veronica disappeared through the conference hall doors.

Huxley grabbed Isaac's arm. "How much influence does she actually have with Dario?"

They had already noted Dario bringing Veronica as his companion to the expo. His regard for her was obvious. But this level of professional inclusion exceeded their expectations.

The situation defied conventional logic.

Veronica carried the baggage of a failed marriage and motherhood. Her beauty was undeniable, but Dario commanded enough social status to attract women with pristine backgrounds and superior credentials.

Why would he invest so heavily in damaged goods?

Isaac kept his thoughts private.

The conference hall operated under strict capacity limits. Companies without exhibit contributions typically received seats in the back rows, assuming they gained entry at all.

Cullen had personally arranged for Niall to join him in the premium front section.

Isaac couldn't suppress his amusement at this development.

Veronica was present in the same room, yet Cullen positioned Niall beside him in the most prestigious seating area.

Huxley's satisfaction was evident. "Mr. Blair will be delivering the keynote address. Front row placement maximizes networking opportunities with him."

Niall grasped the strategic advantage immediately.

She observed Veronica and Dario settling into the middle rows with detached interest. Her mood lifted considerably knowing her own superior positioning.

Niall also catalogued the seating arrangements carefully.

When Cullen led her past Veronica's row, she maintained perfect composure. Her eyes never wavered from their forward trajectory. Veronica might as well have been empty air.

Veronica and Dario registered the passing figures with equal indifference.

Neither party acknowledged the other's existence. The mutual dismissal was deliberate and complete.

However, surrounding attendees buzzed with envious commentary.

"Did you see that? Mr. Malcolm Blair has front row seats. Anyone sitting there gets premium access to him. What I wouldn't give for that opportunity."

"The networking potential alone is worth millions."

Veronica caught Dario's eye meaningfully.

Dario leaned closer, his voice barely audible. "Stop worrying. Even if she manages face time with our mentor, she lacks the substance to impress him."

His assessment of Niall's capabilities had crystallized during their initial encounter. She was all surface polish with no underlying brilliance.

Veronica considered his reassurance carefully. "What if she's been concealing her real talents?"

The possibility had merit. Dario had entertained similar doubts, but ultimately dismissed them.

Could someone truly hide that level of intellectual sophistication?

His internal debate was interrupted as the event host claimed the podium. The opening remarks began with predictable corporate enthusiasm and industry platitudes.

The crowd settled into restless attention as the host droned through sponsor acknowledgments and conference logistics. Anticipation built steadily toward the main attraction.

Finally, the moment arrived.

"Ladies and gentlemen, please join me in welcoming our distinguished keynote speaker, Mr. Malcolm Blair!"

The auditorium erupted in respectful applause as the legendary figure approached the microphone. This was the man whose innovations had reshaped entire industries. His presence commanded absolute attention from every person in attendance.

Niall straightened in her front row seat, acutely aware of her proximity to greatness. This was her moment to make a lasting impression.

In the middle rows, Veronica maintained her composed exterior while internally calculating her own approach strategy. The real competition was about to begin.
