My Angel Girl

Chapter 31: The Blaze

The air on Flame Island was thick, heavy with the weight of the impending battle. The earth beneath the obsidian ground seemed to tremble, as if it, too, sensed the violence that was about to unfold. The once peaceful island, home to Kikidori's solitary reign, was now a war zone. Kikidori hovered high above, eyes locked on the army that Lucifer—Morningstar—had brought to his doorstep. The rumble of thunder echoed across the sky, dark clouds swirling like a storm had been unleashed, heralding the arrival of Hell's fury.

Flame Island, with its jagged peaks and volcanic lava flows, was no place for peace, but it had become something more: a refuge for the outcasts and sinners. Now, it was to be torn apart by the very forces Kikidori had once belonged to.

The first strike came with a boom. A demon, covered in flames, launched itself from the ranks of Morningstar's army, its fiery sword gleaming in the dim light. The demon's wings flared, sending a burst of heat through the air as it dove toward Kikidori, who was still hovering, his face impassive, his wings spread wide.

Kikidori reacted instantly, his body twisting in the air like a serpent. He reached out with his hand, summoning the powers of Flame Island itself, and a streak of purple fire shot out, colliding with the demon mid-flight. The impact was explosive, sending a shockwave through the island. The demon's body erupted in a shower of sparks, disintegrating into ash before it even hit the ground.

But this was just the beginning.

Lucifer's army surged forward, a relentless tide of hellish creatures with eyes full of hatred and bloodlust. Kikidori didn't flinch. His eyes narrowed, glowing with a fierce determination as he descended, his wings slicing through the air. He landed with a crash, the force of his arrival cracking the ground beneath him.

"Is that all you've got, Morningstar?" Kikidori shouted, his voice carrying over the battlefield. He wasn't sure if Lucifer had heard, but he knew that his challenge had been thrown.

Lucifer's laugh answered him—a deep, hollow sound that sent shivers through Kikidori's spine. He was still standing at the edge of the battlefield, looking down at his army as if he were merely observing the chaos he had created. His eyes gleamed like burning coals, his form surrounded by a flickering aura of power.

"You think you can defeat me, Kikidori?" Lucifer's voice boomed, and his wings spread wide, the darkness within them swallowing the light. "You are nothing but a rebellious child playing at being a king. This is Hell. This is my domain."

With a flick of his wrist, Lucifer sent out a shockwave of dark energy that tore through the earth. Kikidori braced himself, his feet digging into the ground as the shockwave hit him like a battering ram. He gritted his teeth, barely managing to stay upright as the world around him cracked and split, sending chunks of obsidian rock flying into the air.

The demons charged forward again, their blades gleaming in the dim light, ready to strike down the former king. Kikidori snapped his wings open, launching himself into the air once more. He moved like lightning, his body twisting and weaving through the air as he dodged attacks from all sides. The demons were fast, their weapons sharp, but Kikidori's agility, honed over years of battle, allowed him to evade them with ease.

He swung his hand forward, summoning a wave of purple flames that engulfed the demons in its wake. They screamed as they were consumed by the fire, their bodies writhing in agony before they crumbled to dust.

But the battle was far from over.

Lucifer's voice called out, his power crackling in the air. "You may have won small victories, Kikidori, but you are nothing compared to me!" His eyes burned with fury, and he snapped his fingers. The ground beneath them trembled, and a massive fissure split open, releasing a wave of molten lava that surged toward Kikidori.

Kikidori's eyes widened as the wave of fire and molten rock rushed toward him. He didn't hesitate. With a flick of his wrist, he summoned a barrier of dark energy to block the oncoming flood. The heat from the lava pressed against him, but he stood firm, his body glowing with power as he pushed back against the inferno.

From the corner of his eye, Kikidori saw Morningstar himself soaring through the air, his wings unfurled like an immense shadow. He was coming directly for him. The two locked eyes, and Kikidori's heart skipped a beat.

This was it. The moment they had been building toward for so long.

Lucifer descended with terrifying speed, his eyes locked on Kikidori. The impact of his landing created a shockwave that sent debris flying in all directions. Kikidori gritted his teeth and flared his wings wide, using his speed to meet Lucifer head-on.

Their clash was like the collision of two titans.

Lucifer's fist met Kikidori's chest with a brutal force that sent him stumbling back, the air knocked out of him. He gasped for breath, but before he could recover, Lucifer was already upon him, his clawed hand reaching for his throat.

"You can never escape me, Kikidori," Lucifer growled, tightening his grip. "You will always be mine."

Kikidori's eyes flared with rage. With a roar, he summoned his power, his body pulsing with the might of Flame Island itself. In a burst of strength, he slammed his elbow into Lucifer's side, forcing him to loosen his grip. Kikidori kicked out, sending Lucifer crashing into the earth with a thunderous crash.

But Lucifer wasn't finished.

Lucifer's laughter echoed across the battlefield as he slowly rose, his body glowing with dark energy. He raised his hands, summoning a wave of shadow that engulfed the ground around them. The sky seemed to darken, the very air becoming heavy with the presence of pure evil.

Kikidori staggered to his feet, his breath coming in ragged gasps. His wings twitched as he summoned his remaining strength. This was no longer a battle for control; this was a battle for survival.

Lucifer's power surged, and he charged forward, his hands crackling with destructive energy. Kikidori blocked with his wings, but the impact of Lucifer's attack sent him flying backward, his body crashing into the rocky cliffs of Flame Island. He coughed, blood spilling from his mouth as he struggled to rise.

"Is this how it ends?" Kikidori thought to himself, his vision blurry. "Is this the moment I lose everything?"

But then, something shifted.

A familiar feeling washed over him, a presence he could not deny. He could feel it deep within him—Ere'ana. Her warmth, her light, her love. The thought of her gave him strength, more than he'd ever realized he needed.

He pushed himself up, ignoring the pain that wracked his body. His eyes burned with a renewed fury as he faced Lucifer, who had paused, sensing the change in Kikidori's energy.

"You're not the only one who can be reborn," Kikidori spat, his voice hoarse but resolute. "I am Flame Island. I am more than a demon, and I will never let you destroy everything I've built."

With a mighty roar, Kikidori charged at Lucifer once again, his power surging through his veins. The battle was far from over, but Kikidori knew one thing for sure:

He would not let Lucifer win.
