My Angel Girl

Chapter 28: A Moment Of Calm

The air was thick with the scent of saltwater as Kikidori sat on his obsidian throne, staring out at the endless horizon of Flame Island. The golden hues of the sky had started to fade as the sun set, casting a warm glow across the island. The island was quiet for once, no demons to entertain or armies to lead, and Kikidori found himself in a rare moment of peace.

Despite the peace, Kikidori felt restless. The war between Heaven and Hell, the chaos, and his constant role in it all had left him craving something more. And that something more was a simple moment with Ere'ana.

It had been a while since they'd seen each other, and Kikidori couldn't shake the thought of her. They had their differences—he was a demon, and she was an angel, after all—but the connection between them was undeniable. She had revived him, something he hadn't asked for, and in doing so, she had drawn him back into a world he thought he had left behind.

But now, as the island grew darker with the setting sun, Kikidori felt a sense of anticipation rising within him. He had invited Ere'ana to Flame Island. He wasn't sure what would come of it, but part of him hoped that maybe, just maybe, they could both find a little peace together, if only for a moment.

The sound of wings caught his attention, and he looked up just in time to see Ere'ana descending from the sky, her brilliant white wings cutting through the air like a beacon. She landed gracefully, her feet touching the ground just a few feet away from him. Kikidori couldn't help but smile, a rare and genuine expression that softened his usual smirk.

"Hey, Kiki," Ere'ana greeted, walking over to him. She handed Cerberus back to Kikidori, the chihuahua happily wagging his tail. "Here's your little troublemaker. I swear, he's more energetic than any demon I've ever met."

Kikidori chuckled as Cerberus leaped into his arms, the chihuahua licking his face with wild enthusiasm. "Yeah, he's a handful," Kikidori agreed, setting the dog down on his lap.

Ere'ana smiled warmly, taking a seat beside him on the throne. But, as if on some unspoken impulse, she shifted, sitting directly on Kikidori's lap instead. It wasn't a move Kikidori had expected, but it wasn't unwelcome either. He didn't mind it at all—if anything, it felt... right.

For a moment, they simply sat in silence, Ere'ana resting against him comfortably, Cerberus curled up next to them. Kikidori's mind wandered, but he couldn't help but feel a warmth in his chest as he looked at Ere'ana. She wasn't just some angel to him anymore. She was someone he cared about—someone who had brought him back from the brink, who had revived him when he had nothing left.

But of course, Kikidori couldn't resist pushing her buttons.

"Ere'ana," he started, a teasing grin creeping onto his face, "you're still a bastard for reviving me, you know that?"

Ere'ana looked at him, her eyes narrowing playfully. "Shut up," she replied, her tone laced with affection as she reached out and gave Kikidori a soft slap on the shoulder.

Kikidori laughed at her reaction, leaning forward as if to tease her further. But before he could say anything more, Ere'ana leaned in, her lips pressing against his in a sudden kiss. Kikidori froze for a moment, surprised by the gesture, but then, instinctively, he kissed her back.

The world around them seemed to vanish, leaving only the feeling of Ere'ana's warmth against him. It was a simple kiss, nothing too intense, but it held a weight that neither of them could ignore. They had been through so much together—war, death, and separation—and now, for this one brief moment, they were simply two people who cared about each other, finding solace in each other's presence.

When they finally broke apart, their foreheads rested against each other, both of them breathing softly, as if they were both trying to hold on to the moment.

"Are we really doing this?" Kikidori whispered, his voice low, almost uncertain. It wasn't a question he had asked before, but now it felt important. He was a demon, after all, and Ere'ana was an angel. Their connection had been forbidden from the start. But, at this moment, he didn't care.

Ere'ana smiled, her eyes softening. "I think we are, Kiki," she replied gently. "And I think I'm okay with that."

Kikidori grinned, a mischievous glint still present in his eyes. "Good. Because you're stuck with me now," he teased, wrapping his arms around her, pulling her closer.

Ere'ana laughed, her head resting against his chest. "I think I'm okay with that too."

As they sat there on the obsidian throne, the world outside of Flame Island seemed to fade away. The chaos of Heaven and Hell, the endless fighting, the burden of being an angel and a demon—it didn't matter. Not in that moment. All that mattered was the two of them, here and now.

Kikidori's thoughts were interrupted as he glanced down at Cerberus, who had nestled between them, his little tail wagging happily. The dog had grown on him more than he had expected. Cerberus was a reminder that even in the midst of all the madness, there were simple joys to be found.

"Well, at least Cerberus is happy," Kikidori muttered with a grin.

Ere'ana chuckled softly, raising an eyebrow. "You're happy too, Kiki. Don't pretend you're not."

Kikidori smirked, but there was a warmth in his eyes that wasn't there before. "Maybe I am. But don't tell anyone."

Ere'ana leaned in to kiss him again, this time with more tenderness, letting the kiss linger for a few seconds longer. When they pulled apart, she spoke with a teasing smile. "Your secret's safe with me."

Kikidori laughed, but there was something in his heart that told him that maybe, just maybe, things were starting to feel a little more... right.

For the first time in a long while, Kikidori didn't feel alone. He had Ere'ana by his side, Cerberus at his feet, and a rare, fragile peace that was worth holding onto.
