Chapter 25: A Song Across Relms
Kikidori leaned back on his obsidian throne, a rare moment of stillness settling over him. Cerberus lay curled up at the base of the throne, his tiny body twitching as he dreamed. The flickering light of Flame Island's fiery rivers cast eerie shadows across the room, but Kikidori wasn't paying attention to his surroundings. His mind was elsewhere—on Ere'ana.
"Why do I even think about her?" Kikidori muttered to himself, running a hand through his dark hair. "She's in heaven, surrounded by everything pure and perfect. And me? I'm here, stuck with sinners, demons, and... this place."
He sighed deeply, then looked at the orb resting on the arm of his throne. It showed glimpses of the heavens, shimmering with light and life. Somewhere up there was Ere'ana, likely glowing with that same pure energy.
Before he realized what he was doing, Kikidori began to hum. The hum turned into a melody, and soon, words began spilling from his lips.
"Your voice is like music to my ears,
The way you don't care about your fear.
I know you love me, and you know I love you back,
Don't know why you love me with the heart that I lack."
He paused, his voice trembling slightly as emotions he didn't know he had bubbled to the surface.
"You're light in my darkness, a beacon in my void,
Your touch heals the wounds I've always tried to avoid.
Your faith in me, it cuts through my despair,
How can you love me when I'm so broken and unfair?"
Unbeknownst to him, the song didn't just stay confined to Flame Island. His voice, raw and filled with emotion, echoed across dimensions, carried by some unseen force. It reached Ere'ana in heaven, interrupting her as she walked through a garden of golden flowers.
She stopped in her tracks, her halo glowing brighter as she tilted her head, listening. "Kiki?" she whispered, her heart skipping a beat.
The melody grew stronger, and she could feel his emotions, almost as if he were standing right beside her. Her lips parted as she began to sing in response, her voice soft and angelic, weaving seamlessly into his song.
"I see the cracks you try to hide,
But even through them, you're still dignified.
Your soul may be torn, your heart may be frayed,
But I see the love that's never decayed."
Kikidori froze on his throne, his glowing purple horns dimming as he heard her voice. It was unmistakable—it was Ere'ana. His heart raced, the beat so loud he was sure Cerberus could hear it.
He continued, his voice rough yet vulnerable.
"I don't deserve the light you bring,
But still, you're my angel, my everything.
Why do you stay when I push you away?
Why do you love me when I'm destined to stray?"
Ere'ana smiled faintly, closing her eyes as she walked through the garden. Her glowing halo pulsed gently with the rhythm of the song as she answered him.
"Because I see the fire in your soul,
Even when the darkness takes its toll.
You're not as lost as you think you are,
You're my fallen angel, my shining star."
Their voices intertwined, harmonizing in a way that felt like the melding of two worlds. The other angels in heaven paused, their wings fluttering as they listened to Ere'ana's voice echo across the golden skies.
Back on Flame Island, demons and lost souls stopped in their tracks, looking toward the obsidian castle as Kikidori's voice rang out. For the first time, the fiery, chaotic realm felt... peaceful.
Kikidori stood from his throne, pacing as he sang the next verse, his voice trembling with the weight of his emotions.
"I've fought wars, I've killed, I've sinned beyond repair,
But when I hear your voice, I feel like I'm there.
In a place where I'm whole, where I'm not just my past,
You make me believe that maybe love can last."
Ere'ana leaned against a golden tree, her wings drooping slightly as tears welled up in her eyes. Her voice was barely above a whisper as she replied,
"You're not just your past, you're not just your pain,
You're more than the scars that fall like rain.
You're strong, you're kind, though you hide it so well,
Even if you're from Flame Island, not heaven's dwell."
The song slowed, both of their voices softening as the emotions swelled to a crescendo.
Together, they sang:
"So here we are, two hearts worlds apart,
Bound by a love that defies the start.
Through heaven and hell, we'll find our way,
For love like this will never decay."
The final notes of the song lingered in the air, resonating across both realms. Kikidori collapsed back onto his throne, his chest heaving as he tried to catch his breath. Cerberus, sensing the shift in the atmosphere, jumped onto Kikidori's lap and licked his face.
Kikidori laughed softly, wiping his face with the back of his hand. "She heard me," he whispered. "I don't know how, but she heard me."
In heaven, Ere'ana stood still, her fingers brushing the petals of a golden flower. Her heart felt full yet heavy at the same time. "I heard you, Kiki," she whispered, her voice carried away by the soft breeze.
For a brief moment, the barriers between heaven and Flame Island felt insignificant. Though they were worlds apart, their voices had found each other, and in that moment, it was enough.
