Chapter 97: The deception
Three days, Three days have passed since I had my battle with Badigadi.
Ariel was reluctantly chosen by the king as the new queen of Asura, my mission was already completed here, and I had no more reason to be here.
Prince Grabel was killed along with other nobles, either because of the battle in the ballroom or because they were replaced by Gull and Alek.
But the thing is, after this, all the people who were willing to help Hitogami are gone, they were killed by me.
Badigadi is a special case, as he was defeated as a team by me and Rudeus.
Orsted says that someone can only claim the title of The Fighting God whether you put on the armor or destroy it.
This in itself is complicated, since me and Rudeus destroyed the armor, not just one person.
But I have no intention of checking the world powers' tablet at the moment, I wanted to return home, all these days I had lived in fear...
But I was also in denial, I wanted to believe that what Gesse had said was simply something to provoke me, I wanted to believe that my wives and children were still alive, but I was afraid to go there and check it out.
I wouldn't stand it...
But I knew I couldn't go on like this, I had to go back home and face the consequences of my actions.
I didn't even say goodbye to Ariel or the others, they would still be staying there for another week, but I had already returned to Peragius Castle and explained my reasons.
"Hmm, I see, in that case I understand, I will teleport you to Sharia" Peragius said while scratching his beard.
So with Almanfi's help I appeared on the outskirts of Sharia but in the east, so I ran south where the cabin was where I arrived here.
At my top speed it takes me less than a minute to tour the entire city.
I had three swords and Roxy's staff with me.
He carried my father's sword, Ghislaine's and Alek's, the latter of which he had taken out of simple revenge.
I entered the cabin with more trembling hands and went down to the basement where I quickly walked through the labyrinth of teleportation circles.
Shortly after after Three minutes later, I arrived at the circle that would take me back to the sacred land of the sword.
I closed my eyes and took a deep breath, I put a hand on my chest to try to calm down a little, my heart was beating a thousand times an hour, I felt desperate, I wanted to scream, I would like to do anything but go there and find out that my family is no longer there.
He was terrified, he hadn't felt like this in a long time...
With resignation I jumped into the teleportation circle to face my destiny, I opened my eyes and again I was in the cave.
I wanted to move but my feet were glued to the ground, my instincts screamed not to go out or I would see something horrifying.
I inhaled and exhaled as much as I could until I could move my feet, they were slow strides that didn't take me very far.
Each step I took was more difficult than the last, but my willpower kept me from stopping.
So I continued walking, one step at a time until I saw the sunlight and left the cave.
The village was to the north, if Alek and Gull had come they would have done so from the road that is somewhat far from here so they wouldn't see anything for the moment.
But that did not comfort me and with this thought I continued walking.
My feet sank into the sand with every step I took, I couldn't move properly, I felt like a beginner in this climate instead of someone who lived practically his entire life surrounded by snow.
Every step I took felt slow and misplaced, my head was spinning, I didn't want to go there and see what had happened, but my love for my family made me keep walking.
And with this simple thought I continued walking through the snow. It was autumn, so the snow is constantly falling. The leaves of the trees fall and I step on the dry leaves, which marks my steps and the small creaking sounds reached my ears.
All these thoughts reached my ears, simply as an attempt to distract myself from the truth that was approaching me.
...
It took me about ten minutes to get to the town. At first glance, everything looked normal. I could see people outside the streets with wooden swords on their hips, walking from side to side, acting tough. But the moment they saw me, they turned pale and bowed deeply. Others simply looked at me from a distance with admiration, others with anger, and others with hatred.
The same as always. It felt normal, as if nothing had happened. This made me calm down a little, and that's why I continued walking.
"Oh? Mr. Gino? What a big surprise! I haven't seen you around here for a long time!" A man said from the corner of a house, I knew him only by face, he always saw me when I went out jogging in the mornings, his casual greeting slightly relieved my heart and gave me back my hopes slightly.
I kept walking, until I passed by people's houses, everyone looked at me as always, there was no concern in their eyes or fear of what could happen, with this I simply calmed down and started walking faster towards my house.
I passed by the children's dojos and they looked at me in amazement, I passed by the intermediate dojo where Donald was and he greeted me so I returned the greeting.
So I started running, I just wanted to know what had happened, not even the weight of the swords mattered, each step I took was faster than the last, I felt like I was flying.
I went up the hill, up and up and up, until I saw the central dojo, and next to it my house.
It was the same as I left it, there were no signs of damage of any kind so I kept walking.
I walked and walked until I got home.
My hand reached for the door handle and slowly opened it, it had no lock, there was no need, no one who was smart enough would enter this house without permission anyway...
I slowly opened the door and looked inside, everything was intact, the furniture, the decorations and the floors, everything was the same.
I entered the house and took my father's sword while I was on guard, while I walked slowly.
I passed the living room and got to the kitchen, there was no one, and I kept walking until I got to the bedrooms.
"wooof!!" I heard the bark of a dog and turned quickly.
It was Leo and he came excitedly towards me with his tongue out and a happy expression.
"Leo..." I murmured as I bent down slightly to pet his head.
It was a few brief seconds and then he left my side and entered Romira's room.
I quickly followed him and entered the same way.
And... there was my daughter asleep in her bed and... next to her was Roxy, sitting in a rocking chair while reading a book.
"Roxy..." I murmured as I approached her, I felt tears coming out of my eyes as I approached her.
"Oh?, dear, welcome back, hey, you won't believe what happened, the father of...hmmp?!" Roxy tried to speak but I quickly hugged her and kissed her passionately.
She opened her eyes wide, but after a few seconds she hugged me back.
I couldn't take it anymore, my legs gave out and I knelt down while crying on her chest.
"Wah?!..G-Gino, what's wrong?!" she asked with concern.
"I was so worried..." I murmured as I hugged her tightly.
"Tell me everything that happened while I was gone" I said as I looked her in the eyes seriously.
"uh?...oh, ok..." she murmured
...
Roxy spent the next half hour explaining what happened during the month I was gone.
The first week was pretty much unchanged, Eris trained hard, Nina monitored the dojo, and Ghislaine and Roxy looked after our children diligently.
That was our established dynamic while I was away.
But after nine days of my absence, Gull arrived at the dojo, Nina told Roxy that he came in like a wandering swordsman, dressed in tattered robes and had a scruffy beard on his face, as well as an indecisive expression.
"I've come to see the Sword God!!" Gull demanded and burst into the dojo only to find Nina.
She was obviously in shock, after all she hadn't seen her father in three years and now he came in like this.
But seeing that I wasn't there he simply left, but Nina went for him and after an hour of talking, she convinced him to visit the house.
He made fun of Ghislaine because she had left the path of the sword, but there was no malice in his tone, he also praised Eris's progress and named her Sword King.
Other than that he didn't do much, but Roxy pointed out several times that he seemed indecisive, he often looked at his sword while playing with my children.
His visit barely lasted until night, and then he said his request.
"I need two weapons, a sword and the staff, Gino needs help..." he said after letting out a deep breath.
Ghislaine gave him her sword and Roxy gave him her staff and so he left without looking back, there was no incident after this.
I listened to all this attentively, without being able to fully understand it.
"Did Gesse trick me?..." was what I muttered.
"Yes, he deceived me, but he also deceived himself"
Hitogami probably sent him to kill my family.
Obviously he came here, but when he saw my family or simply out of moral responsibility he didn't do it and he only took weapons to deceive Gesse and since my house has the protection of the sacred beast...Hitogami couldn't see what happened in my house.
All this simply left me in shock while Roxy told me what happened but I was already relaxed and I let myself fall on the floor while I hugged her.
A little later Ghislaine arrived with Reinolds in her arms and was surprised to see that I received her just like Roxy, she also agreed that Gull seemed indecisive throughout his visit to the dojo.
But he needed the whole family present to tell everything that happened.
...
So that the whole family could find out everything that happened I waited until night, Nina and Eris received me with bear hugs and they also told me that Gull had come.
Also, Eris showed me off that I was already a Sword King, but after that I gathered them all in the living room for a family reunion. Seeing all my wives with expectant faces and totally healthy filled my heart with peace but also made me feel guilty, but I put that thought aside when I remembered that Gull almost killed Ariel if it weren't for me.
"I was away for a month... a lot of interesting things happened and others that I'm ashamed to tell..." I muttered while looking at them.
So for an hour I spent everything that happened, from the first day I arrived, my conversation with Peragius and our first days on the trip, how I killed Aubertt and Wi taa, in addition to our visit to Triss and how we arrived at Asura.
The closer I got to that moment my voice broke as I reached that day, but I reached the day when my father ambushed us, I told them without stopping how I had to kill my father to protect the princess... besides that he was allied with Gull to kill the princess, the girls' expressions became grim as I continued telling the story.
I finally reached that moment, I avoided Nina's gaze as I said it.
"While Princess Ariel and Tristina confronted Darius, the North God Alek Kallman III burst into the place as well as Gull Farion and the Fighting God attempted on Princess Ariel's life... I had no choice but to finish them off... but before he did... Gull showed me the weapons he took from here "Ghislaine was a thorn in my side, you should have seen her face of pain when I killed her son" he said as he threw the weapons he brought from here to the floor" I said seriously.
When these words left my mouth I instinctively looked at the ground and remembered that I had not brought Gull Farion's sword, it had been lost in the rubble of the battle and I had not even bothered to look for it, but now I regretted not doing so.
Besides, I was afraid to look at my wives' faces, all of them except Roxy had ties to Gull.
But I looked at them anyway.
Nina's eyes were full of tears, Ghislaine's fists were clenched while she looked at the ground in the same way, Roxy just looked at me with concern and Eris seemed impassive and had her fists clenched with an inverted V expression.
"I don't expect you to forgive me, I hope you understand me" I said with a murmur.
Suddenly Nina stood up suddenly and looked me in the eyes, then slapped me hard.
"You're stupid... you killed my father... but still, I suspected this, he's not the kind of person who changes his mind... I forgive you" Nina said as tears fell from her eyes.
"It's certainly unexpected, but I never thought Gull would be capable of something like that, don't feel bad dear" Ghislaine said with a smile.
"Hmmm!!, anyone who is Gino's enemy is my enemy!!" Eris said with a snort.
"It must have been really hard, right Gino? I guess you deserve a break" Roxy said as she gave me a hug.
I simply hugged her back and then felt another pair of six arms around me, it took us about three minutes until we separated.
"But... after all that, what happened?..." Nina murmured now calmer.
"Well..." and so I spent another ten minutes explaining my battle against Badigadi.
