Munitions Empire

Chapter 1602: 1519 Until Dawn

Cao Fei stood on a destroyed position, using his high-powered scope to observe the distant Dwarf Troops in motion. He hadn't opened fire because, a few minutes ago, a sniper from the Dwarves had wounded a Tang Army Soldier, and he was still waiting for the enemy to reveal their position.

There were simply too many enemies, targets moving everywhere, making it indeed quite challenging to locate the opposing sniper under such circumstances.

He was very patient because he didn't need to fire at those worthless ordinary Dwarf soldiers. He just had to wait patiently for that dangerous Dwarf sniper to be the first to shoot.

The flares in the sky gradually dimmed, and the frightening Armed Helicopter finally ran out of ammunition and left. The Dwarf Troops suffered heavy losses and couldn't organize an effective attack in a short time.

At this time, the Dwarf sniper hiding in the shadows became the top threat that Cao Fei needed to focus on.

"I don't see any suspicious targets," said the observer holding a night vision device, searching for the target, to Cao Fei, who was wearing a ghillie suit. "The opponent is probably an experienced sniper."

He was right. In their war with the Elves, the Dwarves had developed many seasoned snipers, elites who survived countless failures and whose combat power was undoubtedly terrifying.

However, the Tang Army snipers were not famous for nothing. On the battlefield, Tang Army shooters could be found everywhere, akin to the Reaper, and the Tang Army's team tactics even included the role of a sharp shooter.

The Tang Army had developed sniper tactics to their peak, with each unit having its own sharp shooter. Once these sharp shooters upgraded again, they became regular snipers, and the elite among these snipers could operate alone like Cao Fei.

"Crack!... Boom!" In the pitch-dark night, a long streak of light rose once again, exploding at its peak, illuminating everything nearby.

The Dwarves fired flares again but didn't organize a larger-scale attack. Smoke was rising everywhere in their positions, remnants of a recent Tang Army grenade barrage.

The Tang Army, now equipped with heavy weapons onshore, even had mortar support, which was undoubtedly bad news for the Dwarves.

As more and more heavy weapons arrived onshore, the Tang Army's combat power would grow stronger, making the Dwarves' counterattacks seem increasingly powerless.

Dawn was approaching, and this darkness before dawn was the Dwarves' last chance for a counterattack. After a brief silence, the Dwarf troops began another offensive.

This time, they didn't swarm but adopted a small unit exploratory approach, inching towards the Tang Army positions step by step.

As these Dwarves slowly pushed forward, a shell suddenly fell on a position controlled by the Tang Country. After a piercing whistle, the huge explosion caused even the ground beneath Cao Fei, who was far from the impact point, to tremble slightly.

A 200mm caliber heavy artillery! Cao Fei could determine the size of the shell just by the deafening explosion. The Dwarves finally received their artillery support! And heavy artillery support at that!

Approximately 10 kilometers away from this area, a rotating turret's second 200mm caliber cannon recoiled sharply, its muzzle spewing a dazzling flash.

The second shell traversed the 10-kilometer distance with immense momentum, striking near a steel-reinforced concrete bunker, tearing off its cover and blowing apart a cement-reinforced trench.

The ground shook, and nearby Tang Army Soldiers were disoriented by the shock. Tang Army Soldiers at the impact point suffered casualties. Medics rushed into the still-smoking haze to those not yet completely silenced. The Tang Army Soldiers quickly got up from the ground, carrying ammo boxes and running back to their units.

"The Dwarves are starting to react; their artillery fire is becoming increasingly intense," Cao Fei said to his observer while looking through the scope at the Dwarf soldiers who had advanced dozens of meters.

Soon, these Dwarf soldiers crossed the Tang Army's fire alert line. A Tang Army Soldier squeezed the trigger, and a bullet flew over the ground full of corpses, directly piercing a Dwarf soldier's heart.

The Dwarf soldier screamed and fell, but the other Dwarves did not retreat. Instead, they continued forward, inching toward the Tang Army positions.

The battlefield was littered with corpses, and the blood had turned the bomb-loosened earth into a mire. Dried blood began to turn sticky and hard, and the air was filled with the bloody scent mixed with gunpowder.

Two Intruder Attack Aircraft roared overhead, their engines' massive noise clearly audible in the chaotic battlefield. As they passed the Dwarf Troops' lines, they didn't drop bombs, rushing off into the distance, seemingly heading toward an unknown target.

Cao Fei didn't know what targets those planes were going after; he only knew that since the two Intruders passed overhead, the Dwarves' 200mm artillery shells had not fallen again.

He waited silently for the sniper hiding among the Dwarf soldiers to fire again, but even as the sky began to lighten, he didn't get the chance to shoot.

Another Dwarf offensive had failed because a Type 96 main battle tank reached the position, and the Dwarves had no way to deal with this steel monster, so eventually, the counterattack stopped entirely.

Facing such an indestructible monster, the Dwarves' reaction was also quite normal: even if they committed more troops, they couldn't deal with that tank, so they simply gave up.

They had to wait for their follow-up Armored Corps to arrive before considering how to launch a new round of attacks. But all the Dwarf frontline commanders knew, once dawn broke, and more Armed Helicopters from the Tang Army appeared, it was uncertain whether their tanks could still be effective.

Indeed, things unfolded much as they anticipated: as the sky just began to brighten, two Armed Helicopters from the Tang Army appeared above the battlefield.

They fired rockets at the Dwarf assembly area, then used the aircraft's machine guns to plow the ground constantly, only leaving leisurely after expending all their ammunition.

The Dwarf Troops, lacking anti-aircraft firepower, suffered huge losses again. Fortunately, their tanks arrived afterward without being attacked, keeping combat power relatively intact.

Five entire new Ice Cold Empire tanks! They would collaborate with the Dwarf infantry to launch a new offensive to reclaim the positions lost during the night!
