Chapter 1520: Their Tanks Are Monsters
The Dwarf Empire has its own understanding of armored units. Besides the Tang Army, it's one of the few countries extensively using armored corps in real combat.
With a multitude of experiences accumulated, the Dwarfs have designed a new type of tank that somewhat resembles a main battle tank: equipped with a 100mm caliber cannon, moderate armor, good maneuverability, and balanced in the three major benchmarks.
However, internally, this tank only mimics a main battle tank in appearance. Its design concept is correct, but its technical level remains backward.
Without new armor enhancements, the moderate armor thickness is insufficient to ensure the tank's safety, and the 100mm caliber rifled cannon lacks powerful penetration capabilities.
Most importantly, the Ice Cold Empire's tanks have no gun stabilizing systems, no ballistic computers, and no night vision devices.
These tanks managed to reinforce the position overnight, thanks to the Dwarf crew members' excellent skills and solid qualities.
Upon receiving the orders, these Dwarf tankers immediately devised an attack plan: the Tang Army's two armed helicopters had just left, offering them a good opportunity to counterattack.
As long as they destroy the enemy tank hiding behind the small hill, even if it means trading two of their tanks for the opponent's one, they could leverage their numerical advantage to assist infantry in breaking through the Tang Army defenses.
After thoroughly considering potential hiding spots for the Tang Army tanks, the Dwarfs set up a formation of three plus two.
Three tanks initiated an attack from the right side, supporting the infantry to approach the Tang Army's defense positions and forcing the Tang Army tanks to expose themselves.
Meanwhile, two tanks attacked from the left side, near the beach, quickly sprinting and maneuvering to attack the flanks of the Tang Army's tanks, aiming to secure a decisive victory!
Of course, as the tanks moved, the Dwarf infantry also launched a major attack, covering tank operations and attempting to reclaim parts of the positions occupied by the Tang Army.
By now, the sky was somewhat brighter, allowing the Dwarf tanks without night vision devices to unleash their combat prowess. Nonetheless, to ensure combat efficiency, the Dwarfs still fired many illumination rounds to brighten the battlefield.
As illumination rounds ascended, Dwarf tanks' tracks churned, crossing rubble and craters, rapidly charging toward the Tang Army's positions.
Upon spotting the Dwarf tanks, the Tang Army remained eerily silent. Anti-tank operators armed with rocket launchers were waiting in trench shelters for the enemy to approach.
The Tang Army had a wealth of individual anti-tank weaponry, instilling enough confidence to counter the opponent's tanks without relying on their own tanks.
Even without backing from the 96-type main battle tank behind them, the Tang Army feared little from tanks as targets.
The Dwarf tanks demonstrated excellent coordination, leveraging proximity to maintain radio communication despite significant noise, though just barely usable.
As an Ice Cold Empire's 10-type tank crushed a collapsed small bunker, a whistling shell struck the turret of the Dwarf tank.
The massive impact slightly warped the front armor of the Dwarf tank's turret, the seemingly indestructible steel layers fractured and peeled, leaving a blackened hole.
Countless fragments and scorching projectiles ricocheted inside the tank, puncturing equipment, slicing through flesh, and igniting stored spare shells.
The next second, before the Dwarf tankers realized their demise, their tank became a twisted steel coffin due to the ammunition detonation.
The turret soared high, and the immobilized chassis halted in place. Surrounding Dwarf soldiers fell in droves due to the explosion's impact, as screams and cries reverberated.
Inside another Dwarf tank, the commander peered through the panoramic periscope, searching for suspicious targets, soon spotting a Tang Army tank quickly moving laterally along the Tang Army's front line!
However, the opponent's lateral movement was swift, disappearing from the Dwarf commander's narrow view in an instant.
Frustrated, the Dwarf commander disregarded danger and opened the hatch above his head, daring to peek out to locate that damned Tang Army tank's position.
Such a tactic might have been favored by Tang Army commanders a decade ago, but now with independent observation systems, they rarely risk peeking out.
Unable to resist, optical sights proved excellent: not only offering a full 360-degree view but also featuring telescopic scales and other enhancements, clearly more useful than bare eyesight.
"I see it! I can't aim! It's moving! It's moving!" came the gunner's urgent voice through headphones, while the Dwarf commander felt his tank's turret rotating. Unfortunately, the rotation speed couldn't keep pace with the laterally moving Tang Army tank.
Amidst the drifting smoke, the Dwarf commander peered out and saw the Tang Army tank's turret pointing horizontally at them.
The enemy turret was square-shaped, its blackened gun barrel appearing massive, with a bulging apparatus in the middle, its purpose unknown.
In his moment of daze, that Tang Army tank suddenly halted. As the chassis slightly rocked, after a second or two of silence, the Tang Army tank fired a powerful shot.
He felt a slight tremor beneath his tank, then the Dwarf commander sensed something tugging at his pants.
Looking down at his lower half inside the turret, he saw blood gushing and the cabin interior sparking.
"We've been hit!" The thought burst in his mind. But before he could brace against the hatch's edge or pull out his wounded leg, his tank detonated.
In the blink of an eye, two Dwarf tanks became headless wrecks, smoke shrouding the surrounding Dwarf soldiers' vision. The attack from the right halted, with a remaining tank unaware of the events, seeing an ally tank's turret crash in its path.
"Car 4 has been destroyed! Car 3 too! Damn it! That Tang Army tank is a monster! Their tanks are monsters!" Car 5's commander, holding the transmitter, shouted in panic.
"Their tank's gun barrel doesn't move when driving! Their tank aimed at us while moving!" He also saw the 96-type main battle tank, clearly visible.
