Chapter 56: Chapter 55: Arrival at Maoshan

Uncle Nine took the talisman from Ren Fa and felt the energy flowing through it.

"What a powerful exorcism talisman!"

Uncle Nine was shocked. "Old Master Ren, did you draw this yourself?"

Ren Fa nodded. "More or less."

Uncle Nine couldn't believe it. Ren Fa had only been learning for a few days, yet he could already draw such a strong exorcism talisman. Even though it was one of the most basic talismans, it was also the most commonly used.

For Uncle Nine to draw a talisman this powerful, he'd have to bathe, change into clean clothes, burn incense, and pray beforehand. Even then, he could only manage three in a day.

This wasn't the kind of talisman casually drawn during an exorcism.

But looking at the stack of talismans in Ren Fa's hand, Uncle Nine didn't even know how to react.

"Old Master Ren, how did you draw so many? You've only been back for a little while!"

Seeing Uncle Nine's disbelief, Ren Fa was secretly pleased. Time to show him the power of technology.

"Haha! Little Nine, you don't want to admit you're falling behind the times, huh? Go get some talisman paper, and I'll show you how I did it!"

A little later, Uncle Nine returned with the talisman paper, and Ren Fa led him to the printer.

"Old Master Ren, what is this thing?" Uncle Nine asked, puzzled by the machine he had never seen before.

"This? This is technology! Give me the talisman paper, and I'll show you something amazing."

Ren Fa took the paper, placed it into the printer, and started it up.

As the machine hummed to life, sheet after sheet of talismans began printing out. Uncle Nine's eyes nearly popped out of his head.

He quickly grabbed one of the freshly printed talismans to examine it.

"Holy crap!" Uncle Nine, who rarely swore, couldn't hold back.

He grabbed another talisman and compared them side by side.

Looking at the two identical talismans, Uncle Nine felt like he was losing his mind.

The key to drawing talismans was stability—the more stable the drawing, the more powerful the talisman. But no matter how steady a human hand was, it couldn't match a machine.

"Old Master Ren! What is this? How is this even possible…" Uncle Nine was so overwhelmed that he didn't even know where to start.

Ren Fa patted him on the shoulder.

"Well? Impressed? This is a printer. As long as you have the materials, it can keep printing non-stop. The only downside is that the talismans are a bit weaker than ones drawn by hand with infused spiritual energy. But they make up for it with speed and consistency."

"Old Master Ren, what kind of materials are needed?" Uncle Nine didn't care about the slight drop in power. Even at reduced strength, these printed talismans were stronger than ones rushed in the middle of a fight. If the materials weren't hard to find, he'd carry stacks of talismans for every situation.

"Materials? Everything's pretty standard, except you'll need some jade powder. The better the jade, the more energy it can hold. If you grind up something like the He Shi Bi, you'd basically be unstoppable."

Ren Fa chuckled to himself, thinking it was more about how much energy you could pour into it than the quality of the jade.

"Well, jade shouldn't be a problem. Even though cultivators like us are said to suffer five disadvantages and three shortages, we usually have some jade around. Old Master Ren, would you mind if I used this… printer?"

"Of course not. Just come over whenever you need it!"

…

Three days passed in the blink of an eye.

On a dirt road, a horse-drawn carriage sped along, driven by Uncle Nine.

Inside the carriage, Ren Fa was lying in a coffin.

"Uncle Nine, are we almost there?" Ren Fa called out from inside.

"Almost, Old Master Ren."

Thanks to Ren Fa's generous spending, they traveled as fast as possible. If Uncle Nine weren't a cultivator, he would've collapsed from exhaustion by now.

Soon, they reached the foot of Maoshan.
