Chapter 117 | You're Planning To Do What!?
"Took you long enough, Master." Hecate tilted her head, staring at the gorgeous white-haired lady whose pearl-like eyes gleamed with arrogance and brilliance.
"Sorry about making you two wait... Several pests merely wasted my time in the outskirts of New York." Alastair's lips curved into an arrogant smile.
Damien glanced at the boss and remarked. "They must be bothering you about Francine. Did she really kill the Sixth Paragon?"
His question attracted the attention of both Alastair and Hecate.
"Has the news spread so far into the East Coast, Damien?" Alastair raised an eyebrow while he shook his head and responded. "No, I just heard of it."
"When I heard that the Sixth Paragon confronted Francine. I knew that it was a matter of time until only one of them would leave the conversation alive."
"So... Did the Sixth Paragon really die?" Damien inquired after explaining how he received the information.
Even though the answer to the question was already in his mind. It was better to hear it from his boss, who had actually met up with his senior and taken care of the aftermath.
"Yes, Old Dante lost his life amidst the duel between him and Francine." Alastair nodded, prompting the black-suited young man to nod in understanding.
"I see..."
"Francine is much stronger than I previously thought," he muttered under his breath while Hecate chuckled. "Of course she is."
"The senior isn't master's partner for nothing." The logic was sound since their boss was the strongest of humanity.
Anyone who was her master's partner should have the capabilities to rival a Paragon, even if they weren't one themselves.
"What do we do now, then?" Damien asked while Alastair merely grinned. "That shouldn't be what the two of you are focusing on."
"The task I gave you, Damien. Have the identities of the infiltrators been uncovered?" The gorgeous white-haired lady changed the subject with ease.
Damien and Hecate could only accept it as the one they were speaking to was none other than their boss. In any case, he placed his finger below his chin and answered.
"Yes, we already found four infiltrators in the Federation. Their identities are currently in this USB. There is one infiltrator we have no information about."
"We consider this one as the leader of their small group." Damien handed out a USB to their boss, who accepted it and asked. "Any idea about who this leader might be?"
"I have a theory. But I doubt that you would be happy." By connecting the interpersonal relationships between the infiltrators, it was easy to discover which circle they belong to.
In the government or the Federation, these political circles tend to be in plain sight. From the looks of it, things were bad for Block 7.
"Oh, give me your worst." Alastair snapped her fingers, and the executive swivel chair appeared behind her. She rested comfortably while Hecate continued to sit in the air.
It didn't take long for the crimson-haired vampire to notice that the chair beneath her butt was gone. Though she merely adjusted her body and leaned on the desk.
Seeing the two gazed upon him with expectant eyes, Damien sighed to himself and wondered what he had gotten into.
Taking a deep breath, he raised a finger and pointed upwards. "From the political affiliations of the infiltrators and their circles, there is only one person who could be their leader."
"It might also be the reason why the Federation managed to enact the horrific experiments on metahuman children with remarkable ease."
The air was tense as Alastair immediately assembled the pieces of information, recognizing where it could be heading.
"From power to authority, there is only one. The current and first president of the Federation."
"Andrew Washington."
"Damn!" Hecate swiftly reacted, causing the tense atmosphere to evaporate. Both Alastair and Damien sighed, though they kept going.
"Andrew Washington... That guy, huh?" For the first time, Alastair furrowed her eyebrows since she understood how troublesome the situation was.
To think that the last infiltrator of the Federation would be the president themselves.
"Do you have any evidence?" The gorgeous white-haired lady inquired, but Damien could only shake his head. "Unfortunately, I don't."
"There are no traces that lead towards him. Only the four infiltrators could be used against him. But I would think it would work."
Alastair tapped the wooden surface of her table, pondering the problem. "I cannot start another revolution over the mere fact that the president was an infiltrator of a terrorist group."
"A civil war isn't best for the current state of humanity."
"How about an assassination? After we confirm his identity as an infiltrator, the only thing we need to do is take him out of the picture."
Damien suggested to the two, who raised their eyebrows, dumbfounded by the prospect. But the strongest of humanity promptly acknowledged his suggestion.
"That is possible... Though his death must be natural without a single trace of the assassination. Unfortunately, his security detail is highly perceptive."
"While I can kill him and make it look like an incident, the security personnel would notice that it was a metahuman who killed him."
"After all, traces of aether can be concealed but not permanently hidden," Alastair stated, crossing her legs together, deeply pondering about the idea.
On the other hand, Hecate was astounded that her partner and her master were already discussing how to murder the president of the Federation.
"Before we do any of that, wouldn't it be better to confirm whether or not the guy really was the infiltrator? Besides, does he even have replacements?"
The crimson-haired vampire questioned, to which the Seventh Paragon answered. "Yes, he has replacements. Quite a lot of them."
"The Federation was established with the prospect that its leaders wouldn't last long in the New World. Dozens of politicians would be ready to replace the head of the machine."
"The tree of succession ensures that even if the Federal Government Building were exploded into damnation during a congressional meeting."
"There would still be someone ready to replace the president."
Hearing the words of her master, Hecate could only sigh in defeat. It appears that there wasn't anything she could do about it.
"But how do you even intend to kill him?" The vampire tilted her head, wondering how anyone would make a murder into an accident.
"You don't have to worry about that. I can handle the 'killing and making it an accident' part of the plan." Damien waved his hands, indifferent.
"W-What? You can't just tell that and expect me to not say anything." A sly grin formed on Hecate's face as she took a step forward. "So, tell me... H-O-W!"
Damien looked at his partner, visibly bothered. Since having that fever, she had been much more easy-going than before. But perhaps it was a good change.
"There's no need for you to know."
"The only thing I need is time." He turned his attention towards his master, who was still pondering how to make the president's death an accident.
"Miss Alastair, send me to the southern frontier. I want to pay my debt before the operation."
"Debt?" Alastair was thrown out of her mind and focused her pearl-like gaze on the black-suited young man. "Did you take a loan or something?"
"Yeah..." Damien answered, not bothering to clarify.
The gorgeous white-haired lady merely smirked at him and replied. "Alright, I'll throw you to the Southern Frontier. However, you will have to go alone."
"I need your partner with me to gather the evidence against the president."
"You sure you can handle yourself, right?" Alastair raised a single eyebrow, arrogance permeating from her pearl-like eyes.
"I have my ways, Miss Alastair." Damien smiled at her while a bluish display hovered beside his perception. It was his status display, and his debt decreased once again.
