Chapter 80: The Death Rose Society_2
When Glenna led the two into the room, there were 7 figures in black robes seated in the chairs, while another 5 chairs were empty.
"Good morning, everyone," Glenna waved her hand, but the seven people in the room remained silent, seemingly a bit irritated by her sudden entrance.
"Good morning, Glenna. What brings you here today? We're in the middle of a meeting," one of the robed people lifted their hood, revealing short gray hair.
"Shelinge, good morning, I'm terribly sorry to disturb your meeting, but if I waited any longer, I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to come in until the afternoon, so I intruded," Glenna stepped forward.
"This is the president of the 'Death Rose Society,' Shelinge, a well-known crafts master within the Academy who has a fondness for bone-related art. His handcrafted skeleton models are welcomed by many physicians in the school," she introduced.
"Shelinge, this is Tilan, a new member of our student council who will be taking on many responsibilities. I'm bringing her here today to get acquainted with the situation," Glenna said.
"Hello, Miss Tilan," the gray-haired youth with a slightly pale face greeted the girl with a bow, his demeanor neither arrogant nor rash, but serene and collected.
"Hello, President Shelinge," she replied.
After a brief introduction, Glenna led Tilan closer to the round table in the activity room and lightly touched it, feeling an especially cool sensation. The material of the table was somewhat similar to black jade, possessing a semi-translucent beauty.
"Is it still serving you well?" Glenna looked up and asked.
"Very well, thank you, Glenna, for helping us acquire this ritual round table last year. Because of it, our society's members have found it much easier to practice secret techniques," Shelinge nodded in acknowledgment.
"If you're satisfied, that's good. I happened to know that the quarry had produced a black lustrous stone, and knowing you were looking for such things, I contacted the seller," she explained.
The group sat down, and the girl slowly learned about some past events related to Glenna and the society.
Many members of the Death Rose Society were aficionados of Necromancy; although today's Withering Sequence originated from the Necromancer Sequence, much of the past had been omitted and genuine practitioners of Necromancy Secret Art were now in the minority.
Because of its niche and obscurity, the 'Death Rose Society' had always had few members, currently only 7, but each of them was quite strong, all above Sequence 5. To advance to Sequence 5 during high school in the Federation was a one in ten thousand occurrence, and not all students at Edith Academy could reach Sequence 5 before graduation.
As the conversation about the society's activities progressed, Tilan asked many curious questions, some of which were quite knowledgeable, involving the past of the Necromancer Sequence and the evolution of some secret techniques.
"I didn't expect Miss Tilan to have such an understanding of the past of the Necromancer Sequence," Shelinge remarked, his initial coolness turning to keen interest, and even the other six silent members began to chime in with thoughts.
"In the era of the Mercury Dynasty, due to years of war, the Necromancer Sequence saw tremendous growth and stimulation. It was truly a time when many geniuses emerged. If I could have lived in that era, I would have definitely become a world-renowned Necromancy master," he said nostalgically.
"A Necromancy master? The Second Age was indeed good, but the Third Age was not quite as pleasant," the girl shook her head slightly, familiar with that period of history.
"Ha ha ha, being held to account was inevitable. That was the time when the Magic Sequence rose to prominence, just as in today's era, with the revival of the Spirit Particle Sequence," he added.
"But our Necromancer Sequence is still doing pretty well; at least it transformed into the Withering Sequence and continued. The Magic Sequence was completely replaced by the Spirit Particle Sequence," he recalled some evocative and fortunate matters.
"In the past, those proficient in Alchemy, Potion Brewing, and Engraving Magic Formations from the Magic Sequence are now replaced in every aspect by the Spirit Particle Sequence," he thought back on some happy and fortunate events.
Soon Glenna and Annelli were nearly completely sidelined, simply listening to Tilan and the society's robed members delve deeply into the details of various Necromancy Secret Arts, including the 'Morta Incantation,' 'Burial Moon Secret Ritual,' 'Tri-Soul Awakening Formula,' and other topics, the names alone baffling to the uninitiated.
Thus, the discussion continued until noon when Glenna interrupted, and although Shelinge was somewhat reluctant to part ways, it was indeed time for a meal.
"I'll give Tilan a gift, a Soul Jade Magic Orb I've made recently," he stood up and walked to a corner of the activity room, unlocking a cabinet and taking out a black jade orb roughly the size of a baby's head, its color deep and semi-transparent.
"It's engraved inside with micrometer fine filaments, which helps easily perform some Necromancy Secret Arts and allows creatures of the Withering Sequence to reside within after phasing," he explained.
"This must have been quite costly to produce, not just in terms of effort but also the material expense," Glenna commented with a slight smack of her tongue.
"It's nothing, it's rare to meet someone who can converse so well on common topics. These days, peers who understand the Necromancer Sequence are just too scarce," Shelinge shook his head, indicating the gift was merely a token of goodwill.
"The crafting of such Magic Orbs is something I've mastered now. It wouldn't be difficult to make another; it just takes some time," he reassured her.
"Tilan, don't feel obligated to refuse, I'm really looking forward to our next exchange of insights," and with that, he handed the Soul Jade Magic Orb to the girl.
Soul Jade Magic Orb [Rare Radiant Gold Level]: A Magic Orb recreated by Shelinge according to ancient tomes, allowing for more convenient execution of various Necromancy Secret Arts, and capable of storing phased Necromantic and Withering Sequence creatures, such as ghosts and wraiths.
Stay tuned to empire
"This... well, thank you then, Senior Shelinge," the girl had intended to decline, but considering she happened to have a pet from the Withering Sequence, specifically a large spider, she accepted it.
