Chapter 74: Divination Hut_2
Dressed in her pajamas, Hexia quickly woke up after being struck by the cold breeze. She took a walk outside before finding a large rock to sit on. Tonight's moon was very full, and even at night, it was not pitch-dark; rather, it was quite "bright".
The cold white moonlight spread over the mountains and forests, and the girl in white pajamas sat alone on the rock, looking up at everything under the moonlight which was so clear and bright.
Resting her hands behind her, Hexia slowly closed her eyes, feeling the night wind blow over. Though it was a bit cold, due to Transcendents having a far superior constitution than Mortals, it didn't affect her too much.
She was feeling emotionally unstable, Hexia assessed herself.
Although she seemed to have left behind that timid and insecure self from the past, the transition wasn't yet hammered out and tested by fire, and some anxiety lingered persistently at the bottom of her heart.
It's difficult for a person to find stability by simply reading books or experiencing an epiphany; one needs to verify and go through certain experiences for that stability to gradually take hold. Stay updated with empire
She thought she had moved on, but in fact, she hadn't; there were still some minor shadows in her heart that hadn't dissipated.
Could childhood traumas really take a lifetime to heal? Hexia couldn't help but cover her forehead, feeling a subtle sense of deflation.
Opening her eyes again, Hexia hopped off the rock and continued her walk, yet this time she did not have her usual "calm and serene" demeanor, instead kicking up little stones by the path.
She had always thought of herself as a very kind and good-tempered person, but today she had a subtle realization that wasn't entirely true; the so-called kindness was just another form of "fear", simply afraid of being denied by others, so she used an image and methods liked by everyone to handle problems.
"What the hell, that's disgusting," Hexia muttered to herself after kicking another stone away, and then looked up at the bright moon in the sky.
The moonlight was pure and unchanging, tranquil, giving her a little peace of mind.
Suddenly, she remembered something, a wordless panic spreading from the soles of her feet throughout her body.
She remembered everything, the classmate who invited her to play at home in her dream, was actually herself, which is why she felt such a sense of eeriness and unfamiliarity, as a person often finds their own face to be both the most familiar and the most foreign.
The classmate's parents with blurred faces, were also her own parents. Why that building block was so familiar was because she had come across it years ago while cleaning up at home, but the changes in the scene made her forget the origin of that block.
The classmate from her childhood in the dream was so docile and obedient that it filled Hexia with an inexplicable fear and eeriness. She was afraid, but why was she afraid?
The girl stood under the moon, quietly observing her own lonely and unchanged shadow.
Gradually, she closed her eyes and then opened them again, her eyes carrying a touch of reluctance and sadness.
Indeed, what she feared the most was actually herself, afraid that everything would revert to the way things were, afraid that her eerily obedient youthful self would usurp who she is now, and that all her so-called growth was nothing but an illusion.
The rapid growth of her powers felt so unreal, too fast for comfort, and she had unwittingly accumulated a lot of unease and fear. The death of her mother, the estrangement of her father, and the strife with her sister had left her without any haven to confide in, and she could only keep everything bottled up inside.
"I really am fragile," Hexia crouched down, picked up a stone from the ground, and threw it away, feeling the chaos inside her relax slightly.
"Blowing up over such a small thing, always thinking too much, such heavy thoughts," she chided herself again and continued picking up stones and spinning them away.
Though she was talking to herself, she did feel a little better after expressing her thoughts.
Stamping her feet, feeling better, Hexia no longer felt like throwing stones. She turned back towards the mountain trail, ready to return.
However, as she turned around, out of the corner of her eye, she thought she saw a black silhouette standing not far in the corner, which startled her once more. But she quickly forced herself to calm down, compelling herself to turn and walk there, and then discovered it was just an optical illusion caused by the shadowy gaps of moonlit tree branches.
Relieved once again, Hexia didn't go back but continued walking around in the forest, not returning to her quarters until she no longer saw anything suspicious. She entered the capsule pod, and the cramped space gave her a momentary sense of security.
"Goodnight," she said to herself, then slowly closed her eyes to sleep, although the warm yellow night light remained on.
Hexia finally remembered something; she was still quite afraid of the dark, and even more afraid of ghost stories, and now she didn't want to hide this fact anymore.
Being afraid is okay; it's better to sleep with the light on than to have nightmares.
Though she stayed up for quite a while in the middle of the night before she could slowly fall asleep, she finally had a restful night without dreams until she woke up at dawn.

"Morning, Hexia."
The next day, Mel rubbed her eyes as she sat in front of the girl, while Yilin was notably more energized, having also bought breakfast for both of them.
"Have some food," she said, placing bread and milk on the table.
The three of them ate breakfast while discussing the plans for the day. After eating, Hexia tore off the remaining bread to feed the large spider at her feet.
"Hexia, is there any facility you really want to visit?" Yilin asked at that moment.
"Not really, let me think, right, I'd like to take a look at Tri-Phase Moon Academy. I've heard it's a very ancient school that specializes in training witches."
