Chapter 54: Answers to Past Questions_2
Human life spans only a century, half of which is spent as children and weakened by old age. The prime years are just the short span of 20 to 40 years. This undoubtedly makes people anxious, for their lives are truly limited, their time is finite, and many choices are forced upon them. They have to accomplish certain things at certain ages, which undoubtedly brings many problems.
To build an ideal society, one must first elevate the quality of all individuals within a civilization, ensure they have ample material security, and grant them longer life spans. This way, it is easier to choose long-termism, thus making morality beneficial to each other. The efficiency of unity and cooperation surpasses solo efforts. Only with abundance can one play and experience joy without schemes.
To solve the decay and corruption of civilization, blindly promoting moral beliefs is not enough, nor is merely providing material without enlightenment and guidance. Both are like overlapping spiral staircases, indispensable.
'The pen that can write the answer has yet to appear on the exam table.'
The qualities needed for individuals in a civilization to achieve an ideal society have not yet been reached. Even with two generations of Color-level Songstresses instilling noble and beautiful beliefs into the Rose Federation, it's still difficult to hide the corruption that comes with the passage of time.
Those who have yet to escape an anxious life have no energy to build a beautiful ideal.
The prerequisite for liberating the spirit is the liberation of material foundation and physical limitations. If a person's life span remains only a century, many beautiful notions are mere empty talk, as many people are destined not to see that day, and naturally have no motivation to move towards it.
Therefore, even if it means going against historical inertia and bearing the moral burden, improving human genes, and optimizing the qualities and physical conditions of all individuals is imperative.
Tilan could imagine how much opposition and criticism would arise if she truly implemented such ideological thoughts within the Federation. But in fact, this is an unavoidable choice. Yet people of the Fifth Epoch era have gone astray.
Could she steer the entire civilization's wheel in the right direction without veering off course?
She looked out at the lush cherry tree outside the window.
If she didn't have the talent of a Songstress, or if she hadn't been discovered and elevated, she would still just be an ordinary girl and wouldn't have such arrogant thoughts.
But reality knows no 'ifs.' What happened must be accepted, and decisions made on that basis.
She was no longer that weak child who avoided responsibility. Now that she has such talent and countless people expect her, why not follow the dream from her childhood and go forward bravely?
Tilan slowly closed her eyes, then opened them, continuing to write her thoughts and plans for the future on the pages before her.
It was time to hurry. Once the Starship arrived to pick her up, she would get busy and not be able to attend to matters here.
...
Time quietly slipped away, and the weather gradually cooled from midsummer, entering a pleasant September.
A hurried sound of hooves clattered down the street, then stopped at the newly built town center. Dismounting personnel quickly entered, and soon someone was knocking on Tilan's office door.
"Come in," a familiar girl's voice sounded.
The member outside the door adjusted their attire, entered the room, and saw the girl sitting behind the desk. She wore a black dress, with white silk scarf flowers on the collar and cuffs. This outfit slightly balanced her inherent gentle temperament, giving her a bit of authority.
"Your Highness Hexia," the visitor knelt on one knee and began to report.
"We received news from the distant East. The local Iron Rat Kingdom triggered a civil war after excavating some ruins. In the war, one side released the dormant mechanical bodies inside the ruins. After appearing, these mechanical bodies began massacring any species in their sight. Currently, the Iron Rat Kingdom's main army has collapsed, and large numbers of residents are fleeing, with many migrating towards us."
"How many of them are there?"
"The Iron Rat Kingdom originally had nearly a million people. Currently, approximately a hundred thousand are fleeing in our direction."
"I see..." Tilan tapped her fingers silently on the armrest, pondering how to respond.
"How long can our food supply last?"
"If it's only for the current 5,000 or so permanent residents, we can sustain for two years, but if we assist the disaster victims, it won't be nearly enough."
"How about having them continue migrating westward? I remember the Stone Sword Covenant on the plains reported that they are currently undertaking water conservancy construction and are in dire need of manpower."
"That should be feasible." The reporter raised no further objections.
"Then proceed as such. You take people to notify the patrol cavalry on the plains, have them prepare to guide and receive the people. As for the mechanical bodies chasing them, I have a way to deal with them."
"Besides, is there any specific information about the ruins?" the girl asked, her interest piqued.
"It's reportedly a crashed spaceship buried underground, likely a troop carrier from the Mechanical Council."
"A spaceship, huh." Tilan thought of something.
"If it's capable of deploying troops across multiple Star Domains, it must have superluminal capabilities, right? Such a thing..." It must be of interest to many organizations and factions, no wonder the Iron Rat Kingdom would have internal conflicts, as this technology is truly enticing.
"Looks like I have to make a trip myself." She couldn't place all her hopes on the Grey Dust Crystal; she had to think of her own methods as well.
In this year, hopefully the Federation doesn't experience any drastic changes. Not to mention Blanchi's win back then marked a change, Tilan mused to herself.
After returning home, Tilan began selecting personnel and assistants for the journey, among whom Loloria was a must-bring. With this Artificial Angel around, many problems at the ruins and spaceship could be directed to her. As for others...
"I want to go, you can't leave me behind this time, Tilan," Ores said, speaking more fluently.
"I'd like to go see for myself too," Celestia expressed that her knowledge could also be useful.
"I'd love to go too, but I'm afraid I might hold Hexia back," Sura spun the hammer in her hand.
"Of course, I'm going, even if Your Highness Hexia doesn't include me," Flan stated. As a member of the Slami Association, he has a duty to go to the frontline to gather relic data.
"The Slami Association headquarters might also send people over," he contemplated after speaking.
"Possibly encounter many acquaintances there," Sura smiled.
"What about Guy?" Tilan curiously looked around.
"He's been quite busy lately." Due to Guy's past experience, he now served as the town's Business Officer, responsible for coordinating various trades, stabilizing prices, and more.
"Alright then, Flan, you and some personnel will follow up. Don't get too close to the dangerous area, I'll take Loloria and Celestia to the event center, and I'll inform you if there are any discoveries." Considering the scene still housed many mechanical bodies, Tilan might not be able to watch over everyone, so it was better to keep them away from the fight.
"Understood; I won't push it." Flan nodded, almost having died at the hands of the mechanical bodies himself, he knew the danger.
"In that case, let's start preparing, we'll set off tomorrow," Tilan announced after settling the arrangements.
"Hold on, actually, I know a group of Mice, I mean, Mouse-Ear Clan, they should be able to help," Celestia spoke up, mentioning a few Mouse-Ear Clan she'd become familiar with recently.
"Having them as guides should be very convenient."
"In that case, have them select two or three to come with us, while the rest stay with Flan's group."
"Alright."
Once decided, the town began to mobilize. First, they issued a notice advising against traveling to the dangerous eastern area recently. Preparations began for grain storage to respond to the end-year famine migration, among other things.
Unlike the newly established order of the Stone Sword Covenant on the plains, the Chasing Star Covenant here was already highly organized and disciplined, hence the execution of various orders was especially swift. Not only the town where Tilan resided, but various settlements under the Chasing Star Covenant began to receive notifications.
Messengers on horseback set out from there for various scattered settlements. The tribes at the far western river began receiving the news too and dispatched more personnel to form patrol cavalry to deal with the impending impact.
The next day, in the cool autumn breeze, Tilan and the others boarded a small aircraft that accelerated on the ground before lifting off. Entirely operated by an embedded mechanical core, the aircraft ascended and, under Loloria's guiding escort, soared into the distant skies.
