Chapter 54: Answers to Past Questions
"Unknowingly, a year has already passed."
Sitting in the third-floor office, Tilan rubbed the ring on her hand.
The newly transplanted cherry tree outside the window was growing well, with dark green leaves. It might bear fruit next spring, but whether she'll see it is uncertain.
This morning, Tilan suddenly felt the ring heat up, as if there were ripples of fluctuation from Aijieka Space. It seems there have been some developments with the Grey Dust Crystal, which might help locate her position. Perhaps a Starship could soon reach this planet.
In the past year, she spent the first half traveling back and forth, and the latter half striving to manage the Chasing Star Covenant and establish order. This process has helped Tilan grow considerably, especially in understanding and gaining insights from grassroots management.
Watching an organization build itself from the ground up gave her quite a sense of accomplishment. Now, if she were to return to the Federation and establish a similar organization, it would be much easier. Unlike before, when even the Songstress's talent was needed for recognition, it was never entirely stable or complete since it wasn't achieved by her own hands.
This experience has made Tilan much more confident, and her character has become more composed. Now when she sleeps, she rarely has strange dreams. As Temisia would say, the silly younger sister finally has a touch of her elder sister's demeanor.
Moreover, interacting with numerous Newborn Races allowed her to see the current Federation and many historical issues from a different perspective.
Undoubtedly, the establishment of the Rose Federation marked a great revival and progress in human civilization, stronger than any human civilization period across the past six epochs. The only thing it hasn't surpassed is the Transcenders of the glorious era; current technology can only be said to partly outpace the Transcender Era, and many aspects have yet to reach its heights.
Although the Rose Federation is progressive and great, is it truly flawless? It's not. It still hasn't shaken off many historical cyclical problems and some inherent human shortcomings.
Poverty gap, social corruption and inequality, people's prejudice and selfishness still exist. Overcoming these to push human civilization forward again requires unprecedented radical change and advancement.
Now, she sees in these Newborn Races another path for human civilization that has been obscured: the sublimation of individual character as part of a civilization.
When you want to accuse others, know that not everyone has the same advantageous conditions as you.
In various literary works depicting the future of Species and civilizations, they often say the kindness and evil of humans lead to certain outcomes. In various disputes and battles, everything collapses, leaving authors and readers in a void because they can't envision a perfect society. Everything becomes corrupt, succumbing to human greed and selfishness.
This is actually a rather arrogant notion, even an intangible toxin permeating various literary works. This toxin specifically describes successes and failures as owing to factors like human moral, belief, and spirit.
Because human nature is selfish and greedy, any grand ideal would ultimately fall apart, every utopian world would crumble. Some creators particularly enjoy writing this tragedy, considering themselves insightful, believing they've shattered unrealistic fantasies.
But then, if you ask them what kind of society is ideal, what kind of future is perfect, they fumble because they know once they speak out, various flaws will be pointed out, which is their favorite past time.
Human will isn't infinite; people need hope and need a beacon. Always criticizing others' impracticality without realizing they themselves are empty and void—without goals and hope to support them, they become aimlessly bewildered and rigid like the walking dead.
Regarding the future fantasies of civilization and the yearning for an ideal society, there's nothing wrong—it subtly drives many changes. You might say it's not perfect, but please do not disparage those pioneering leaders.
Since constant denial and attack are wrong, then where does the foundation of advocating for an ideal society or even a utopian future lie? Just as many literary works say, humans are inherently irrevocably selfish, possessing animal instincts and brutishness.
'The pen that can write the answer has yet to appear on the examination table.'
Successes and failures are not entirely attributable to morality, spirit, belief; it's ignorant and toxic, yet literary creations often choose it as the primary core for impact, saying, 'As long as our faith is strong enough, we will surely win. ~'
In fact, higher moral standards demand higher material foundation and physical conditions, which many literary works avoid discussing.
Speaking of morality to those on the edge of poverty and life saying, even starving, one should not steal—such behavior itself is immoral.
But to those who have enough to eat and drink, with normal channels for work and life, speaking of morality and forbidding theft is reasonable.
If we are to elevate the civilization's enlightenment degree and moral standards, everyone must be given higher material conditions and physical foundations.
Talking about future order with someone who only has three days of life is vastly different from talking about future order with someone who has 300 years left to live.
