Chapter 52: Steel-Gray Sky and Earth
Rose Federation, Givillia Star Domain.
The sky is an exceedingly delicate and soft gray, like mixing terracotta and blue stone on a canvas, making the scene appear shrouded in dawn, with a hazy beauty.
A heavy shuttlecraft in gray steel, matching the sky's color, flies by, then its jet vents turn downward, causing it to slowly descend.
The side hatch opens, and a girl dressed in a bright white floral dress steps out, she looks to be in her early twenties, with beautiful blonde hair and those striking curved horns.
A small car winds along the mountain path, quickly arriving at the landing spot of the shuttlecraft, then the car door opens and a young man in a T-shirt and sunglasses steps out.
"Rocora," he calls out to the horned girl overlooking the scenery in front of the hill, then walks over.
The blonde horned girl turns back, smiling at the youth who came to greet her.
"Long time no see, Brother Rich."
"You too, studying in the Central Star Domain for several years and finally returning home." Saying this, the two stand together, gazing far across the delicately gray-red land toward the city.
Tall steel buildings stand, stretching from the distant horizon to the end of the sky, above these steel structures are heavy shuttlecrafts occasionally rising and falling, below them hang containers, coming and going like industrial behemoths in the city.
"Even at this distance, you can still hear the roaring vibrations, no wonder people often say, growing up in such a giant industrial city environment broadens one's thinking." The girl looked toward the distant city.
"Haha, these few years absent, you seem to have gained quite a lot of thoughts." The young man turns his head, smiling.
"Yes, over these years in the Central Star Domain, I've seen many different viewpoints." Remembering the turmoil and changes in the Central Star Domain over these years made her feel dazed, as if six years felt like a century.
After the civil war between the Western Star Domain and the Central Star Domain ended, the whole Federation saw widespread changes in thought, the once revered sacred aura of the Central Star Domain was shattered, many began posting reflective opinions on social media, denouncing the decay under its glamorous guise: like the gradually solidified academic hierarchies, entertainment and media being controlled by few giant businesses, the so-called advanced prosperity of the Central Star Domain sustained by leeching the entire Federation, drawing countless talents to burn brightly there, while the Federal Center itself gave no return to those star domains providing resources, etc.
In such a reflective environment, previously non-mainstream thought trends began to rise, various doctrines and ideas started to be discussed, and since the civil war ended, the Federal Central Star Domain has been filled with voices of argument throughout the past year.
Politicians arguing in the Central Council, students debating in campuses, norms across various industries start breaking, and many previously hidden things are now uncovered.
The failure in war was not just a concession of interests, but also crushed the proud spirit accumulated over centuries in the Central Star Domain, leaving many at a loss, taking this opportunity, many lesser-known local star domains began to emerge in networks and social media, showcasing diverse cultural environments.
"Recently, Givillia is also seeing increased exposure in the media." Rocora spoke of various videos and discussions she saw.
"Before us beastmen tribes had always been stereotypically associated with barbarism." Saying this, the horned girl thought of something.
"Also, the Four-leaf Crystal Star Domain, though not large, their environmental governance projects are nowadays much praised by many."
"I remember you went there in high school, spending a year as an exchange student." The young man recalled the past.
"Yes, so I'm saying it feels like a whole different world, because when I went to Four-leaf Crystal, it wasn't as beautiful as shown online, but was a gray and rusty steel world." Rocora took out her personal terminal, searching for stored photos.
"See."
In the photo, Rocora wore a sunhat, standing atop a high iron tower, beneath her was an endlessly deep city well, several old shuttlecrafts rising and falling, next to her arm on the steel frame, the rust-proof paint was clearly seen flaking off.
"Speaking of which you might not believe, the day I went to Four-leaf Crystal, I encountered the true songstress, even talked with her." Reflecting on that scene, Rocora remembered vividly.
"Tilan was quite cute, it was clearly her own singing video yet she claimed not to know it, her outfit at that time was just that of a regular student, so humble that I couldn't recognize her."
"However, before leaving, I asked her name, and she still told me, just like rumors online, Tilan truly wouldn't deceive for ability, serious even in small matters." Saying this Rocora laughed.
"Unfortunately, the school I attended as an exchange student wasn't Edith, couldn't become classmates with her, if it had been, it surely would have been a memorable experience."
"Now Tilan seems to have disappeared." The young man recalled, this past year, the emerging new songstress seems to have vanished, no longer appearing on various media platforms.
"Hmm, I've seen official announcements saying she's in retreat practicing, it seems to be some sort of Eastern traditional custom." Rocora took a few steps along the ground, exercising her body.
