Miss Witch Doesn't Want to be a Diva

Chapter 38: Wolf Blood King Camp (Part 2)

"That person selling slaves must be from the Red Poison tribe, right?" Tilan looked at the dark red silhouette and recalled the corpses she saw when they first arrived at the settlement.

"Yes, they are a notorious bunch." Sura frowned.

"Shilin Mountain Castle wouldn't allow these guys into the city at all, but the Wolf Blood tribe doesn't care, as long as you pay enough, they'll let you in."

"Although I don't like them, many people in the settlements on the prairie have mixed feelings towards them."

"Aren't they usually covered in pollution sources, how can anyone like them?" Tilan was slightly surprised.

"It's disgusting, but the various slaves they sell are cheap, and many settlements like to buy them to boost their population and strength."

"Like this woman, she probably knows some sewing skills, and that's quite rare in many settlements. With her, a lot of the furs in the settlement can be turned into clothes and bedding."

"Sigh, the slave trade..." Tilan shook her head after watching the auction process on stage.

In an era of backward productivity and technology, such trade is almost impossible to eradicate. Its only merit is that, compared to the cannibalistic nature of primitive societies, it has made a slight progress, at least the slaves survive and aren't all killed on the spot.

But on the other hand, due to the backwardness of ancient productivity, maintaining the vast expenses of an Empire requires a massive number of unpaid slave laborers, and Rome's rapid rise and prosperity back then largely relied on the numerous slaves obtained through conquest.

No longer watching the new round of auctions on the stage, Tilan's attention shifted to the special and towering figures nearby. These people had dark grey, wrinkled skin, looking very ugly, but it could also be felt that their skin was particularly tough and thick, and they were burly.

"Those are the Elephant Body species, their physique is very tall, and that thick skin has extraordinary defense. Ordinary guns can't penetrate them from a distance, and regular swords have a hard time breaking their armor. They're like tanks on the prairie." Sura quietly informed the girl.

"And what about this side?" Tilan pointed to several figures standing on the other side of the platform. They might barely be called 'people' as their heads resembled a rhino's, with large, curved, singular horns and eye sockets located on the sides.

"Those are the Horned Beast species, reportedly they were once an experimental species for a certain force, but later they escaped from the research site and gradually formed their own settlement."

"Now these guys have become a notable force on the prairie. They're very strong, though slow to run, but once they catch you, they can easily crush a person's bones with their immense body weight and size." Sura evaluated.

Seeing Tilan interested in these unseen newborn races, Sura went ahead and introduced them one by one.

"Those with the triangular wing structures on their backs are the Slip Feather species. They can leap up momentarily, flying quite high, and then glide for a great distance, but that's about all their flying ability amounts to. They're not free or agile like truly winged species."

"The one on the red wooden platform being sold is a member of the Charm Form Race. They have graceful physiques and distinct facial contours, coupled with their innate charming abilities and emotional perception skills, making them the dream companions for many. However, they aren't strong fighters and often become vassals of other species." Sura pointed to the handsome young man with dark gold hair in the distance, dressed in an open-chested shirt with a collar around his neck, as many women screamed for him.

"But truly speaking, in terms of beauty and allure, the Charm Form Race can't quite match the Silkworm Moth Race." Sura rubbed his chin.

"It's said that the Silkworm Moth Race was created much later, so the templates used in their creation were better, thus increasing the chances of producing beauties."

"The Charm Form Race's version is too old, not aligning with some people's aesthetic taste."

"There's such a saying." Tilan found it somewhat amusing, then asked Sura.

"What about you, the Iron Core Species?"

"Us? When we were created, practicality was definitely prioritized. Strong bones, powerful muscles, and the ability to manipulate metal are most important. As for appearance, those are just the icing on the cake and don't have much use in harsh warfare." Sura seemed quite proud of his species' traits.

"You see, I am welcomed wherever I go now, everyone needs steel and craftsmen, but no matter how good-looking those of the Charm Form Race are, they can only end up as slaves."

"Loloria thinks the same, although the leaders tell us that being visually appealing makes humans more likely to like us and willing to work harder, thus the increased efficiency and motivation far outweigh the performance loss." Behind them, Loloria answered quietly.

"Well, indeed interests and hobbies are the primary productivity drivers, especially for those who are well-fed and well-clothed." Tilan blinked.

The three of them walked past the marketplace, preparing to continue exploring what other things were available, when a burst of gunfire was heard from not far away, followed by people exclaiming.

"In the sky, in the sky!"

Tilan looked up and saw several small dots emerging in the distant sky, then swiftly expanding, revealing the Butterfly-winged beings.

Their cobalt blue wings had brightly colored patterns inside them, like splendid butterflies. They flew with great speed, maneuvering several turns in the sky, easily evading the gunfire from below. Then, a few of them suddenly dove down, shattering a covered cage in the marketplace with their deep blue rapiers and rescuing a bound child, before returning to the sky.
