Miss Witch Doesn't Want to be a Diva

Chapter 36: Hidden Species in the Underground Cold Storage (Part 2)

"It seems like there's an attack happening here. Should we go up and help?" a member beside the carriage asked the young girl.

Tilan leaned out of the carriage window, gazed distantly at the settlement for a few seconds, then nodded.

"Let Loloria follow behind you. In case of any emergency, she can assist you."

"Loloria will definitely protect everyone~" The mechanical girl was quite happy to hear that she could go out, though she couldn't casually reveal her identity, being a backup was nonetheless ideal.

Thus, five people quickly separated from the caravan and rushed forward, especially the young man from the Grey Feather Species, whose swift movements were befitting for a species destined to be assassins.

As for the others, they followed the caravan at a leisurely pace.

More than ten minutes later, Tilan stepped down from the carriage. It was rare today that she didn't wear a hood. Her smooth hair fell on her shoulders, with a small portion slightly curled, giving it a natural look.

Arriving at the entrance to the settlement under the small cliff, the air became slightly cooler. It seemed like the people here had chosen the location well; the airflow was unobstructed, and it wasn't too sunny. However, the situation inside the cave was unclear.

Slightly lowering her head, she descended the stone steps at the entrance. It was quite dry here, with a few scattered gravel fragments on the ground. As she walked further in, the light dimmed progressively, and along the way, there were two more bodies. From their appearance, it was hard to determine their exact species. They seemed to be ordinary people with mixed bloodlines.

Here, a small foyer of about 30 square meters appeared, with stone sofas and chairs set up, showing signs of proper upkeep.

Tilan's light blue eyes roved around with curiosity, her gaze shifting to the deeper parts of the cave as a caravan member holding a gun returned.

"How is it inside?"

"Originally three attackers, all were dealt with by us. As for the survivors, we're still searching."

Tilan nodded slightly, then closed her eyes as if to send out a thought, indicating a direction to him a few seconds later.

"It seems there's still a survivor there, and there's also some kind of presence deeper underground." She tilted her head, contemplating.

"Yes!" the person replied enthusiastically, heading in the direction Tilan indicated to search.

An hour later, the caravan members gathered temporarily in the foyer of the settlement. Tilan sat alone on a stone chair, surrounded by a circle of people, with two elite Fox-tail Species holding guns standing beside her. In such intimidating company, the girl in the black gauze dress appeared especially mysterious, despite her thin and delicate appearance. The young man in the white shirt sitting opposite her didn't dare to lift his head, nervously placing his hands on his knees, slightly trembling.

"Can you tell me what specifically happened? Rest assured, we're not here to attack or plunder," Tilan said a few words before a Fox-tail member handed her a freshly brewed hot coffee.

"I..." The young man in the white shirt still spoke with a fearful tremor.

"I don't know either... The thing is, things happened like this," he began to narrate the process, not very coherently.

In fact, he wasn't originally a member of this settlement. He was sold here by a raiding party half a year ago, as he had some knowledge of mechanics and electronics. The leader of the settlement valued him for maintaining some of the settlement's equipment, as the original person responsible for this had died accidentally in a battle.

"Were they good to you?" Even though it was a rough stone chair, under the poised sitting of this black-haired, blue-eyed girl, it seemed like some kind of ancient throne, making her appear naturally endowed with poise.

"They were somewhat vicious and often clashed with nearby settlements, but they treated me quite well."

"Food and delicacies available in the settlement would always leave a portion for me." In many settlements, this was a privilege reserved for core members.

"I didn't have to do much heavy work daily, only needed to maintain the equipment and solar power panels inside the base."

"However, regarding specific decisions and major matters within the settlement, they wouldn't seek my opinion," the young man in the white shirt spoke a bit more clearly now.

"Last month, the leader somehow got hold of an electromagnetic gun. He felt the time was right and took people to attack a nearby settlement, intending to subdue it."

"But ever since they left, they never came back. Only six members and I were left at the base; most of them were not combat personnel — two chefs, a doctor, a gunsmith, one responsible for simple sewing and cleaning, and finally the leader's nephew who had a full set of battle armor and decent combat abilities."

"This month, the leader still hasn't returned. We're very uneasy, but because of a shortage of manpower, we didn't dare go out and search. It was only today we finally encountered an attack."

"Do you recognize the attackers?" Tilan took a sip of her coffee.

"I don't recognize them, but from what others said, they didn't seem like local settlement people. They should be stray exiles from the Wolf Blood Species."

"Now that everyone in the settlement has died in battle, what do you plan to do?"

"I definitely can't hold this place alone, please take me with you, I'm begging you, it's okay, everything here is yours, you can take it all, just don't kill me." At this point, his voice became panicked and trembling again.

Regarding his statement, Tilan shook her head slightly, not immediately expressing a position, but curiously continued to ask.

"Have you speculated on the reason for the leader's disappearance? If it's a failure to attack another settlement, the other side should retaliate, surely they wouldn't leave you alone for a month."
