Miss Witch Doesn't Want to be a Diva

Chapter 36: Hidden Species in the Underground Cold Storage

The caravan continued moving forward, but this time, six members of the Fox-tail Species joined, all female, wearing smart brown leather jackets paired with long pants for ease of movement, tactical straps, daggers, and rifles in hand. They were the elite combat members of the Fox-tail Species, and among them was the one Hexia had met first.

"My name is Moli."

Facing Hexia, who was slightly shorter than her, the black-haired, gray-eyed Fox-tail Species member felt a bit uneasy, her fox ears standing straight up, reflecting her nervous vigilance.

"The name is quite concise." Hexia always felt that the power that created the Fox-tail Species back then must have been Eastern, as their names, clothing styles, and habits all bore traces of Eastern tradition.

Later, another carriage was added to the caravan to carry the six of them and some of the goods. These six Fox-tail Species members were divided into three groups, taking turns acting as guides, occasionally also responsible for finding water sources. Judging by their appearance, they must be very familiar with the surrounding environment.

With these local members, Tilan's caravan trades over the next few days became much more routine and smooth, without any situations requiring Hexia to step in or take action.

"We just seized this thing last month. Although not many in our settlement understand electronic machinery, you can see it's quite a useful piece."

A few mohawk-haired youths, wearing vests, were trying to sell the massive iron lump beside them to Guy and Moli. Judging by its appearance, it seemed to have once been part of a large machine, but only a fragment remains.

"Clang, clang——" saying this, they tapped it with the back of a knife.

"Listen, obviously good steel, it's a very okay material for weapon forging. We'll sell it to you, just for 10 barrels of fish." The other party added a few more words.

"How is this worth so much? It's heavy and cumbersome. You say forging weapons, but I fear you've tried for ages and still can't divide it apart..."

Hearing the voice of Guy up front discussing with the others, Tilan thought for a moment, put on a black veil, then pulled up her hood and got out of the carriage. Her figure was shrouded in a dark robe, making it difficult for outsiders to clearly see her physique and appearance.

Seeing her emerge, Loloria, who had long been eager on the side, also followed with small steps, dressed similarly to Tilan, though noticeably smaller in stature.

Upon getting closer, Tilan's gaze lingered on the few people for a few seconds before shifting her attention to the mechanical remains placed nearby, roughly 3 meters high. Some parts were covered with armor resembling layered shells, while others exposed complex internal structures, all in gray-silver metallic color with signs of oxidation, making the surface somewhat rough like a haze.

"Can Loloria tell what this is?" Tilan inquired.

"I can't tell, but the material seems familiar. It should be Mephia Alloy, a structural material commonly used by the Mechanical Council to make part of the mid-to-low-level mechanical bodies." Loloria accessed the database.

"Mephia Alloy is relatively easy to smelt, and the raw materials are easy to obtain. Combined with its adequate strength, it was once extensively used to manufacture low-end mechanical bodies."

"However, its corrosion and oxidation resistance are comparatively low, meaning after a few years, parts need to be replaced gradually. Later, as our resources gradually became plentiful, we phased out the use of Mephia Alloy in favor of the more corrosion-resistant, stronger Edia Alloy."

"The mechanical bodies in the two rows of rooms outside my slumber hall are made of Edia Alloy, and now, over a thousand years later, they are still as shiny as new."

"So what should this component be?" Tilan pondered.

"It might have been made after I fell asleep, as its structure isn't in my database. Logically, even a small part should be searchable from the design diagrams." Loloria responded.

While the two talked, Guy and the local settlement youths had also finished their negotiations up front, finally trading with two sets of steel chest armor and a rifle from the caravan.

"Alright, now the problem is how to pull it away." Guy looked at the mechanical fragment in front of him, which was taller than he was, and turned to look for Loloria's figure.

He knew that Loloria could cut open this big guy, which is why he bargained with the others, otherwise, such a large fragment would be inconvenient for the team to carry.

"I'm here~" Loloria trotted over lightly. By this time, the youths who were selling the remains had already returned to the settlement not far away, surrounded by caravan members.

No worries about exposing anything, Loloria raised her hand, and with an infusion of energy, a slender pale blue light beam was emitted from her palm, apparently an improved and simplified version of the Light Saber.

As the pale blue light beam slowly cut through the parts, more internal details were revealed. It seemed this was once part of a large machine's joint, no wonder the strength was quite high, with parts resembling knee guards on the outside.

After cutting and separating the mechanical fragment piece by piece, the remaining members picked up the fragmented pieces and placed them in wooden boxes for storage.

The caravan continued to move forward, and settlements in this area began to become dense. Hexia could see three or four passing settlements a day. Some of them had as few as around forty people, while others exceeded a hundred.

Another place that seemed to be a settlement point, where tilted rocks stacked like sheets, protruding from the ground, and the settlement was in the crevice between the rock layers and the surface. However, at this time, it was not peaceful, as the settlement entrance clearly bore the traces of an explosion, with several bodies lying nearby. Occasionally, gunshots and roars could be heard from deep within the settlement caves.
