Chapter 11: Chapter 11: The Cavalry Battle

Chapter 11: The Cavalry Battle

The arena trembled with life as the Cavalry Battle reached its crescendo. Thousands of spectators filled the stands, their cheers deafening as the action unfolded. In the heart of the chaos, a surreal scene dominated the field. Green vines, impossibly long and serpentine, stretched across the ground like a dense jungle. The arena floor had become a forest of hair, each strand radiating from a single source.

At first glance, one might have assumed this to be the handiwork of Ibara Shiozaki, the devout and serene girl from Class 1-B. However, the truth was far more surprising. The green jungle had not been summoned by Ibara but by Neito Monoma, the knight of her team, who had copied her Quirk earlier.

Amidst this chaotic wilderness, another layer of destruction emerged. More than half of the verdant field was now encased in ice, its crystalline beauty shimmering under the harsh lights of the stadium. The frosty expanse was the work of Shoto Todoroki, his precision unmatched. For a moment, the crowd was silent. Thousands of eyes stared in stunned disbelief. Even the announcer, Present Mic, hesitated, as if trying to process the scene.

Monoma stood in the eye of the storm, his expression unreadable. His golden hair caught the light, giving him an almost regal air, and his calm eyes betrayed a glint of satisfaction. He glanced down at the white headband in his hand, its value displayed in bold numbers: 1250 points.

The silence shattered as realization struck the audience like a thunderbolt.

"WHAT?! HE TOOK IT?! HE TOOK TODOROKI'S HEADBAND!" Present Mic's voice exploded through the speakers, spittle flying in his excitement. "Shoto Todoroki, the son of Endeavor, the one everyone expected to dominate this event, just dropped from second place to last in the blink of an eye! What is happening here?! WHAT KIND OF STRATEGY IS THIS, MONOMA?!"

The stadium erupted. Cheers, gasps, and cries of disbelief merged into a deafening roar. In the center of the field, Todoroki's team—Ida, Yaoyorozu, Kaminari, and Todoroki himself—stood frozen in shock. Their once-commanding score was now reduced to zero.

Monoma's teammates were no less astonished. Behind him, Ibara and Kendo exchanged stunned glances, their disbelief mirrored in the widening of their eyes. Tetsutetsu, serving as the "horse," shifted uneasily beneath Monoma's weight.

"He really did it," Kendo murmured, her green eyes shimmering with disbelief. "He took Shoto's headband… the son of Endeavor!"

Monoma's lips curled into a subtle smile. Without a word, he raised a hand in a commanding gesture. "Fall back, now," he ordered, his voice firm but measured.

His team sprang into action, retreating with precision. Behind them, Todoroki's fury boiled over. His heterochromatic eyes burned with anger as his grip tightened on the metal rod Yaoyorozu had created for him earlier. Frost began to creep along its surface, spreading outward in jagged, intricate patterns.

"Freeze them," he muttered through gritted teeth.

The rod struck the ground, and ice erupted, racing toward Monoma's team. The frozen jungle expanded, creeping over the green vines Monoma had summoned. Shards of ice sparkled like glass, deadly and beautiful.

But Monoma's team was faster. Guided by his sharp instructions, they dodged the icy onslaught, moving with practiced coordination.

"Damn it," Todoroki hissed, throwing the rod to the ground. "The ice spreads too slowly unless I'm in direct contact with the ground."

From beside him, Ida's sharp blue eyes darted to Midoriya's team, locked in a fierce battle with several others. Sweat trickled down his temple as he turned back to Todoroki.

"Todoroki," he said, his voice low and urgent.

Todoroki didn't need further explanation. "I understand. Let's go."

The battlefield became a whirlwind of chaos. Teams clashed with unrelenting intensity, the stakes higher with each passing second. The roar of the crowd seemed to grow louder, the pressure palpable.

Meanwhile, Monoma's team continued their retreat, weaving through the fray. He glanced at his teammates, his smile unfaltering. "Our fight is over," he said confidently. "We're in second place. There's no need for unnecessary risks."

His teammates, still riding the adrenaline of their triumph, couldn't suppress their smiles.

"We did it!" Tetsutetsu exclaimed, his voice filled with emotion. "We really pulled it off!"

Kendo grinned, though her disbelief lingered. Ibara, ever composed, folded her hands in silent gratitude.

Minutes later, the sound of Midnight's whip cracked through the air. "That's enough!" her voice rang out. "The Cavalry Battle is over!"

The crowd erupted into cheers, their excitement reverberating through the arena. Monoma glanced at the leaderboard. His team had slipped to third place, but his smile only widened.

"Good," he said simply.

Kendo's hand shot up, grabbing Monoma by the collar. With a swift motion, she threw him off her shoulders, sending him tumbling to the ground.

"How long do you plan to sit up there?" she snapped, though her tone carried more exasperation than anger.

Ibara smiled gently, her voice soft. "We truly did it."

Tetsutetsu, his eyes glistening, clapped a hand on Monoma's shoulder. "Monoma, you're the man! Thanks to your plan, we made it through!"

Monoma brushed himself off, his grin never faltering. The chaos of the arena faded into the background as he stood among his team, his head held high. In that moment, he wasn't just Neito Monoma, the often-overlooked member of Class 1-B. He was a strategist, a leader, and above all, a contender who had left his mark on the Sports Festival.
