Chapter 87: Christmas Eve at U.A
It was Christmas Eve at U.A. High School, and excitement filled the air. Students bustled about, decorating the common areas, hanging ornaments, and wrapping gifts for their Secret Santa exchange. The holiday spirit was alive, and even the heroes-in-training were caught up in the magic of the season.
Eri, the little girl with big, doe-like eyes, had received a warm welcome from her classmates. To her delight, she had been invited to join their sleepover, where they would share stories and treats. As the sun began to set, the group settled in a cozy corner of the dorm, surrounded by twinkling lights and the sweet smell of hot cocoa.
"Who wants to tell the first story?" Deku asked, his enthusiasm infectious.
"Me! Me!" Eri jumped up, her voice bright with excitement, as she shared a tale about a hero who brought joy to everyone during the holidays. As the night wore on, laughter echoed through the common room, but as fatigue crept in, one by one the students succumbed to sleep.
By 3 AM, the gentle hum of slumber blanketed the room, with only the faint sounds of festive music in the background. Eri, however, was stirring. She had been having the loveliest dreams of heroes and adventures when suddenly, a strange sound broke the calm. A soft jingle, then a rustle, something that pulled Eri from her cozy cocoon of blankets.
Curiosity piqued, she quietly slipped out of her sleeping bag and made her way down the dorm's hallway, her little feet padding silently on the wooden floor. The closer she got to the living room, the more she could hear it: laughter, the soft crinkle of wrapping paper, and a bellowing "Ho, Ho, Ho!" that made her heart leap.
Peeking around the corner, Eri couldn't believe her eyes. There, in the glow of the softly lit tree, was Santa Claus! His red suit shimmered, reflecting the twinkling lights, and his white beard glimmered like freshly fallen snow. He chuckled as he placed a beautifully wrapped present beneath the tree, his eyes sparkling with kindness.
Eri couldn't help herself; she raised her tiny hand in a shy wave.
"Santa!" she whispered, her eyes wide with excitement.
He turned to her, his face lighting up with a warm smile, the kind that melted hearts. "Ah, little one! I didn't think I'd have an audience this late," he said, his voice deep and jolly. "You should be in bed, Eri. Christmas magic is sensitive; it only works when everyone is tucked in and dreaming!"
Eri nodded vigorously, her heart racing with joy. "I saw you! It's really you!" she exclaimed softly, her face glowing with happiness. She couldn't believe she was standing in front of the real Santa Claus.
He chuckled softly again. "Aye, and I'm glad to see you. You've been a very brave girl this year. Remember, it's not just about the gifts, but also the kindness and bravery you show every day."
Eri beamed, filled with pride and warmth at his words.
"Now off you go to bed, Eri. The morning will bring surprises, but my time is fragile. I must be off," Santa said, gesturing towards the door of the living room, now filled with presents stacked high beneath the festive tree.
With one last wave, she skipped back to her sleeping bag, her heart singing with joy as she climbed back in. She snuggled under the warm blankets and closed her eyes, the memory of Santa Claus sealing her in a cocoon of happiness. As she drifted off to sleep, she couldn't help but smile, knowing that the magic of Christmas had truly found its way into her heart, and the sweet promise of morning held nothing but joy.
Santa's laughter echoed softly in her ears as she sank into dreams, a beautiful adventurer in a world filled with heroes, love, and the magic of hope.
