Chapter 283: Chapter 283: Korath the Pursuer
"Alan, who's Star-Lord?" Wanda and Gwen asked almost in unison.
As he signaled the group to move forward, Alan explained, "It's a long story, but if we can find Star-Lord, he might help us locate Jane Foster. He knows a lot more about the planets in the universe than we do."
They walked across a waterlogged area, and footprints on the ground showed that Star-Lord had already passed through.
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, when Star-Lord obtains the Orb, Ronan's subordinate, Korath the Pursuer, appears to try and seize it. Although Star-Lord ultimately escapes, it sets him on Ronan's radar. Since Alan knew these plot details, he intended to intercept Korath and his men outside and then leave with Star-Lord before any attacks could occur.
Ahead of them was a massive structure embedded into the mountainside. Its black exterior looked ancient and foreboding.
Alan turned to the group. "We're not going in yet. Some bad guys are about to show up. Let's stop them out here."
Wanda and Gwen were puzzled by Alan's calm confidence, as if he had everything under control and knew exactly what was going to happen.
"Have you been here before, Alan?" Gwen asked.
A cold sweat broke out on Alan's forehead.
Have they figured it out? No way—that can't happen!
To avoid suspicion, Alan quickly replied, "I heard someone in Asgard mention this place before. It only came to mind when we got here."
Although the excuse sounded flimsy, Wanda and Gwen never doubted Alan. Accepting his explanation, they hid outside the structure to wait. Sure enough, not long after, another ship descended from the sky.
Several men disembarked, their appearance making it clear they were villains.
Among them was a man clad in armor, with cracks on either side of his head and striking blue-and-white eyes. He carried two energy batons as weapons.
This was Korath the Pursuer, Ronan's most loyal subordinate, tasked with tracking down the Orb across the universe.
Korath's armor granted him flight and scanning abilities, and his weapons functioned like tasers, capable of stunning enemies.
After landing, Korath's men began advancing toward the structure, but he raised a hand to stop them. Scanning the area within a few hundred meters, he detected the presence of others besides Quill.
"Come out, whoever's hiding there," Korath called, pointing toward Alan and the group's hiding spot.
Since they had been detected, Alan decided there was no point in staying hidden. He stepped forward slowly, meeting Korath's gaze.
"Who are you? Ravagers?" Korath asked, suspecting Alan and his companions were part of the same group as Star-Lord.
Alan shook his head. "You guessed wrong. We have nothing to do with the Ravagers. But we are also after the Orb."
Korath drew his energy batons threateningly. "It seems we share the same objective."
Alan unsheathed his Aurora Sword, standing off against Korath. Suddenly, both sides sprang into action. Korath's men raised their guns and began firing, while Korath himself lunged at Alan.
The lackeys were swiftly dealt with by Gwen and Wanda, who effortlessly took them down. Meanwhile, Korath swung his energy batons, only for Alan to slice one apart with his sword.
"What kind of weapon is this? Who are you people?"
Seeing the overwhelming power of Alan and his companions—their weapons and armor unlike anything he had ever encountered in the universe—Korath began to feel genuine fear.
