Chapter 88: Chapter 84. The Void Realm
[Mission completed. Received 500 Essence.]
Void. Silence. That's what Noah saw upon entering the Void, which was completely unlike what he'd expected.
Before him stretched an endless violet world. The moment he stepped through the Rift into the Void, his foot touched the ground, sending ripples outward like a stone dropped in still water.
He didn't know how to interpret what he was seeing. In his mind, the Void was supposed to be a realm of horrors, distortions capable of consuming everything. But here, in front of him, was a calm violet expanse.
"Well, a calm Void is actually better. At least there are no terrifying Watchers or Void creatures here," he thought, relieved that he wouldn't have to face those horrific beings.
"The mission is complete, too," he noticed, glancing at the system notification. As soon as he entered the Rift, the B-level mission was finished. He confirmed it and tried refreshing his task list, but no new missions appeared, leaving him slightly disappointed. He'd expected the mission series to continue immediately.
"So, what now?" he pondered.
The sky above was covered in endless violet mist, and the land ahead was shrouded in thick haze, obscuring what lay beyond.
He took a few steps forward, watching as waves rippled across the ground with each step. The surface here resembled a sea of pale violet water, creating an eerie yet mesmerizing atmosphere.
When pale violet mist descended in front of him, he initially stepped back, wary of everything in the Void. However, upon closer observation, he realized this mist posed no danger—it wasn't some warped entity capable of affecting the mind but rather a pure energy cloud.
Trusting his intuition, Noah used magic to draw the mist closer to him. When his magic touched the mist, he noticed it merging with his own magical energy. To his surprise, the magic wasn't corroded or assimilated; instead, it grew stronger by absorbing part of the mist.
"What pure energy," he marveled, realizing this violet force could merge with his own magic. This seemed incredible.
Typically, forces with different properties couldn't combine, and attempting to do so would likely result in an explosion.
After examining the strange mist, he found that it was an exceptionally pure form of energy without any particular properties, allowing it to merge seamlessly with his magic.
He tried absorbing the mist, and after examining his body, was relieved to find no tentacles or any odd transformations. Looking at the distant lands shrouded in fog, he decided not to venture there just yet; first, he wanted to address one thing.
"System, how do I claim control over the Void? Are there any hints?" He hadn't forgotten his ultimate mission—to become the Void's ruler—but he had no idea how to accomplish this. So, he asked the system, hoping it might offer some advice.
[This Void was created by a Summoner and has a unique connection to them, thus allowing the Summoner to claim the Void by infusing it with their own magic.]
"Since I summoned Kassadin, the Void came into existence in this universe, and therefore it has a special connection to me?" he pondered, analyzing the system's hint. This method of claiming control seemed quite simple.
Noah crouched down and placed his hand on the violet ground of the Void. Waves once again rippled around his hand as he attempted, following the system's advice, to channel his magic into it.
His magical energy was effortlessly absorbed by the ground, without disturbing the Void or causing any mutations. Indeed, if something had gone wrong, mutations would have started the moment he opened the Rift.
As his magic permeated the ground, he sensed a strange connection to the part of the Void he had covered with his magic. However, he couldn't yet discern what benefit this connection would bring. But knowing that his mission was to spread his magic throughout the Void, he decided to release his full power and send it in every direction.
His magical energy, boosted by layering various hero patterns and his recent training, had significantly grown in volume. Among his equipment, only Muramana could increase his maximum magical capacity, while other items enhanced its quality.
Within seconds, he had expended all his magic, covering an area of over five thousand cubic meters. Yes, cubic meters, not square, because both the sky and ground were part of the Void, and he needed to cover them with magic. Now he fully controlled that part of the Void.
"Is that it?"
The feeling of magical depletion was unpleasant, leaving him with a sensation of emptiness. However, he refrained from drinking a mana potion from his inventory because he noticed that the Void he had covered with his magic had started to restore his energy. The violet mist was absorbing into his body on its own, and he felt his magic replenishing at an incredible rate. Soon, his reserves were completely restored.
"Feels like I could go on forever."
The restorative effect of the mist was impressively powerful, almost comparable to a mana potion. Moreover, it seemed he could use it indefinitely. He realized he could absorb magic while simultaneously releasing it, continuously expanding his influence in the Void.
With this in mind, he immediately set to work. Around him, the violet mist responded to his will, transforming into streams of energy that began flowing into his body. Then, Noah released his magic back into the Void.
It's worth noting that during subsequent releases of magic, he no longer needed to start from himself, extending his influence outward. Instead, the magic automatically began spreading from the borders of the previously covered area.
Noah's magical energy continued spreading throughout the Void, and after a while, he started feeling fatigue. He had been standing in one spot the whole time, continuously absorbing and releasing magic, like a magical converter. This exhausted him.
"Hey, Lissandra, how long has it been?" he asked, stretching to ease his mental fatigue.
"It's been three hours, Noah," Lissandra replied.
"Wow, really? That long?" Noah was surprised.
While he'd been busy acting as a magical converter, he hadn't noticed how time flew. It turned out that several hours had passed.
It was almost noon, and he remembered he'd promised to take Gwen on a walk, so he decided to finish up here.
"Let's see how much territory I've covered," he thought, closing his eyes and sensing the area he had managed to envelop over these few hours.
His awareness easily moved across the Void's territory he'd conquered. When he opened his eyes, he already knew the size of the covered area.
"If we're only counting surface area, it's over 3,000 square kilometers—roughly the size of three New York Cities," he noted after checking. New York's area is about 1,214 square kilometers (including water). In three hours, he managed to cover a territory equivalent to three New Yorks. However, compared to Earth's total surface, this was still negligible.
Noah didn't know the exact size of the Void, but he suspected that in the League of Legends universe, it was roughly as vast as Runeterra. And Runeterra, by estimations he'd seen online, was similar in size to Earth. So he concluded that the Void he was currently in was probably comparable in size to Earth as well.
"System, what's the size of this Void dimension?" he decided it was best to ask the system, as it might know more accurately.
[This Void dimension is the reverse side of the Universe. As vast as the Universe is, so is the Void.]
"You've got to be kidding me!" Noah exclaimed, stunned by the system's response. It claimed the Void was as large as the Universe. That meant his efforts over the past few hours were utterly insignificant.
Even if it were only Earth-sized, it would take him decades to fully cover it with his magic. And as for everything else—the Solar System, the Orion Arm, the Milky Way, galaxy clusters, superclusters, the Great Wall, and ultimately the entire Universe—that was beyond comprehension. Thinking about all this, he decided it was best to put this mission on hold for now. Clearly, it was beyond his current abilities.
He decided to reserve such a monumental task—covering the entire Universe with magic—for a time when he could summon Aurelion Sol. Or perhaps, if he managed to collect all six Infinity Stones, the mission might become feasible.
Noah also thought about the power of the Resolve Rune. He wanted to use it to aid his efforts in covering the Void with his magic, as the runes significantly amplified his strength. However, when he tried to do so, the system issued a warning.
[Warning! The Resolve Rune has not been fully bound to the Summoner. Using it in this Void dimension may lead to serious consequences.]
He understood he couldn't use the rune just yet. According to the system's warning, if he used the rune now, the Void might mutate. Only once he had complete control over the runes could he use them. This result didn't surprise him. From studying Runeterra's history, he'd already suspected that the forces capable of disturbing the Void's tranquility were likely connected to the runes, as only they held such power.
"Alright, I'll leave this for later," he decided. For now, nothing here demanded his immediate intervention or control.
Fully replenishing his magical energy, Noah took out the Rift Creator and opened a portal to return to Earth. This time, using it didn't cause as much disruption, and it wouldn't need to in the future. The previous effect was a kind of ritual: now, the Rift Creator could open portals at any time and place.
"Ah, the air on Earth is much better," he thought, feeling the light sea breeze on his face. The blue sky and white clouds of Earth seemed far more fitting for him.
While Noah enjoyed the moment, a portal opened about ten meters in front of him.
