Chapter 25: Ch. 25 - Establishing the first Sanctum!
Upon arriving inside the house, I immediately froze in tracks.
Standing in front of me were Tam's sister, Belle, and Grandpa Rad who was holding a pitchfork in his hand, they had what seemed to be blood on their faces and clothes that didn't look like they belonged to them, what truly caught my attention and made my blood run cold was the figure of Grandpa Rad lying on the floor, sensing no signs of life on him which could only mean one thing.
Tam was dead. That little kid whom I spent months chatting with and getting to know was dead. All because I was late.
"Master Chamber!" Belle's face lit up in surprise before turning solemn as tears welled up in her eyes upon remembering her little brother, while I turned to look at the only stranger in the living room.
It was a tall man, wearing nothing but a full black coat, the most distinct feature of his appearance was his red eyes, pale skin, and the blood on his mouth, which the man bared in front of me, showing his long fangs as a word suddenly appeared on my mind.
Vampire.
This man is a vampire and knowing their nature, no doubt this vampire is the one who killed little Tam.
"You...Sniff Sniff." As if recognizing my existence just by sniffing, fear appeared on the vampire's face as he backed away and shakily pointed his finger at me.
"Y-you're a High-class Devil! W-what are you doing here?" Despite questioning me, I didn't feel obliged to answer him as my eyes stayed on little Tam's fallen figure.
Anger immediately clouded me, as I slowly stepped forward, each step causing the floorboards to crack.
Both Belle and Grandpa Rad immediately backed away, however, Belle didn't, instead, she insisted on staying beside her little brother's corpse, mourning over him as I could see her teardrops falling on Tam's bloodied body.
As for the vampire, he immediately tried to flee by turning into a bat and flying out of the window. However, I was faster than him and managed to conjure a whip that wrapped around his small bat body and pulled him back inside the house.
"Where are you going?" My cold voice reached his ears, causing the vampire to slowly turn his head toward my direction, and saw the Demonic Energy surrounding my figure, making the vampire's pale face go paler.
"W-why are you doing this to me? Vampires and Devils don't have any conflicts! If you kill me, you're gonna make the entire vampire race join the war against you devils! Do you want that to happen?" This vampire, not only killed someone precious to me, someone I consider as my family member, but he even dared to threaten me!
Without replying to the vampire, I quickly conjured Demonic Bullet and spun it around before hurling it towards the vampire's throat.
Fwoosh!
Splurt!
The difference between their strengths was so vast, as the vampire was unable to react from his fast spell casting causing him to clutch his throat in pain while his blood seeped through his fingers, trying to stop his bleeding.
However, I didn't give him time to breathe as I followed up by smashing his face with my knee.
Bam!
"Gah!" The vampire used his other hand to clutch his bleeding face, now he's covering his entire face down to his neck.
"What were you saying again? Vampires going to war against the devils? Do you think that scares me? Do you think you're important for them to risk a war with another race? I won't even mention how you vampires became a bunch of cowards upon the demise of your vampire lord, Dracula." I grabbed a handful of the vampire's hair and leaned slightly while bringing the vampire's face close to me. The last sentence was true as the history of vampires was included in my reading list during my time in Sitri's library.
I know about the war between vampires and werewolves, thousands of years ago. Not only both sides suffered greatly from the war, but each side also lost their respective leaders.
The vampire race lost their ancestor, Vlad Dracula while the Werewolves lost their Alpha, Lycaon.
This also proved the existence of the Greek Gods as Lycaon is the former king in Arcadia who killed and cooked his son, Nyctimus, and presented it to Zeus, trying to trick the Lightning God into eating human flesh. However, Zeus knew this and turned the king into a wolf, more specifically, the first Werewolf.
"M-Mercy please!" The vampire begged, thankfully I brought him close and I soon noticed that his broken nose was slowly healing while his neck had stopped bleeding.
'So vampires do have incredible regeneration capabilities.' I muttered under my breath and decided to end this vampire once and for all. I don't want to underestimate his regeneration and accidentally let him escape.
Before the vampire could beg more for his life, however, instead of decapitating his head that would've just caused trauma to Belle and Grandpa Rad, so what I did was to open a portal to the other side of the earth.
Portalling to a place where the sun still shines.
As soon as the portal was fully opened, the sunlight from the other side easily passed through and licked the vampire's entire body.
"GRAAAGHHHH!" The process was shorter than I expected as the vampire only managed to scream for a single second before fully turning into ashes.
Typical vampire weakness.
Closing the portal, I swiftly shifted my attention to the mourning Belle and wide-eyed Grandpa Rad.
"K-Kid....What are you?" Grandpa Rad seemed like he couldn't hold it back anymore and asked the question.
Oh right, he doesn't know what my other side is.
"I'm nothing but a humble devil sorcerer." I properly introduced myself.
"Devil? So father wasn't crazy..." I hear him muttering the last sentence to himself. That's interesting, it seems like the old man has a great story to tell.
"Master Chamber, please....save my little brother....He's the only one I have. I'll do anything please!" My attention was then attracted to Belle who kneeled in front of me with tears and snot on her face, bowing her head until her forehead touched the floor.
Feeling an ache in my heart, I couldn't bear to see her like this, not when she was finally slowly recovering. Her appearance now is far more different than the first time I met her. She now looks like a very healthy young girl, however right now, she looks exhausted and drained, as if at any moment now she'll pass out on the ground.
"Belle..." I wanted to tell her that there was nothing I could do about her brother, however, I was afraid of how she'd react.
Will she hate me for not saving her brother? Will she become depressed and attempt suicide? Or will she turn into a vengeful girl who will swear to eradicate all vampires from this world?
So many things could happen if I let her face the truth.
Unknowingly, my eyes slowly trailed down to Tam, his pale face from the lack of blood, along with the two small holes in his neck, a testament to what he faced against the vampire.
He reminds me of myself when I first arrived here and also on death's doorstep. Only through Ajuka's Evil Piece, I was brought back to life...
Wait. Evil Piece.
My eyes quickly widened as I brought out a small red chess piece from my pocket.
An Evil Piece, a pawn more specifically. Before leaving Ajuka's laboratory, I managed to haggle a few pawn Evil Pieces from him in exchange for owing him a favor. Hopefully, he'll forget about it in the future.
Will....this work? But little Tam is already dead while my case is far from different, the Evil Piece was used on me while I still have a small breath of life.
I nervously looked down at Belle, who was still kneeling and pressing her forehead on the floor.
I don't want to give her hope only to snatch it away upon learning that the Evil Piece won't work.
Caught between a rock and a hard place, I gritted my teeth and decided to risk it all.
"Belle, I think I may have a solution to bring him back. But don't bring your hopes up, I'm not sure if I-" I didn't even manage to finish my sentence as Belle cut me off by standing up and staring at my eyes filled with an abundance of hope.
"Please bring him back, Master! I beg of you!" My lips quivered as Belle didn't seem to hear what I wanted to say about not bringing her hopes up.
"I'll do what I can but in the meantime, I want everyone to leave the house for a while." With my words, Belle didn't hesitate to follow Grandpa Rad outside while Grandpa Rad walked past me and muttered.
"Giving someone hope will only result in two outcomes, either happiness or falling deep into the abyss so deep that no one would be able to reach them anymore." It seemed like Grandpa Rad also understood the importance of what I was about to do, so I simply nodded my head in reply.
After he left, I am now alone along with Tam's corpse and the dead vampire's ashes.
Please work.
Muttering the same words under my breath for a few times, I crouched in front of Tam's body and pressed the pawn piece on the surface of his chest.
I watched in amazement as the pawn piece dissolved into red motes of light and spread across Tam's entire body.
My hopes, however, were soon crushed when nothing was happening, no heartbeats or any signs of Tam being brought back to life.
My mind immediately wandered as to why it didn't work when suddenly, I remembered what Ajuka told me about Evil Pieces.
'Sometimes, there are some people whose strength is great and might take more than a single pawn Evil Piece to convert them into Devils.' was what he said at that time.
Hoping that I was right about this, I took out two more pawn Evil Pieces, I placed each on Tam's chest and watched as the same process as earlier happened except this time, something happened.
Thud!
It was a heartbeat! More specifically, Tam's heartbeat! I scanned around his body and saw that his face had regained its color and the vampire bite on his neck had disappeared, only a blood mark was left.
Resisting the urge to yell He's alive! He's alive! I quickly called Grandpa Rad and Belle, who rushed inside almost as fast as a cheetah as she knelt on the side of her brother's body and rested her ears on his chest, hearing his heart, beating back up once again!
"Thank you! Thank you so much, Master Chamber!" Belle didn't hesitate to bow her head towards me again, tears dripping down her cheeks except this time, it was tears of joy.
As for Grandpa Rad, the old man was also tears up albeit only for a second as he soon wiped it away after noticing my gaze.
This old man...
Deciding to give the siblings some time alone and letting Grandpa Rad rest back in his room after assuring him that there will no longer be vampire attacks happening.
As for me, I went outside and stared at the moon in the sky, sighing in relief that a disaster was solved.
My mind then wandered to my original goal. Which is to bring the Masters of the Mystic Arts to life in this world.
Previously, my main reason for doing it was just to establish a powerful force at my command in this world while protecting the humans from the Supernatural side was simply the second reason, however after witnessing and experiencing how defenseless the humans are compared to the Supernatural beings, a sense of obligation welled up inside me.
Sorcerer Supreme, calling myself one while only wanting to have a powerful force to command feels like a painting a huge shame on my back.
Sorcerer Supremes are supposed to protect humanity from threats they cannot handle on their own.
Turning around, I stared at the farmhouse and a decision was made inside my mind.
I will establish the first Sanctum in this place!
