Marvel : Deadpool Is My Best Friend

Chapter 299 : Hawkeye Being Tricked

Seeing Ebony Maw standing before him, Hawkeye's heart sank to the depths.

He hadn't expected that all three of them would come after him at once. That kind of attention felt like overkill. He was just a human — nothing more.

Hawkeye instantly realized that the enemy in front of him was far beyond anything he could handle. Fear rooted him in place. Resistance didn't even seem like an option.

All he could think of was escape — to get out of this nightmare alive. But just as he began to move, Ebony Maw's voice rang out, cold and sharp, like a blade slicing through his thoughts.

"Kneel."

The words were calm and deliberate, but carried an oppressive, otherworldly force.

As the command fell, Hawkeye felt invisible energy slam in from all directions, pinning his limbs and slamming him to his knees.

Terror and confusion filled his chest. He knew the alien was behind this, but couldn't understand how just one word could strip him of all control.

He tried to resist, but the force around him was like steel bands — unyielding and absolute.

Ebony Maw didn't even look at him. His gaze passed straight through Hawkeye, settling instead on the two figures behind him. He spoke again, voice cool and condescending. "You two actually missed."

Hawkeye's breath caught. Only then did he realize the two aliens who'd attacked him earlier had come to his side. Their eyes were cold and filled with contempt, staring at him like he was little more than discarded meat.

A wave of fatigue and despair swept over Hawkeye.

Corvus Glaive's scythe came down in a blur, carving a deep gash into his back. Blood gushed like a fountain, soaking through his uniform. His limbs went weak. His vision blurred.

Still, even in the face of death, Hawkeye didn't stop thinking. If he couldn't survive, he at least wanted to pass on something — anything — useful to Steve and the others.

With what little strength he had left, he lifted his head and forced out a shout: "Who the hell are you? What do you want here?"

Ebony Maw gave a quiet chuckle, his eyes full of scorn.

"I don't think I'm obligated to answer questions from an insect," he said. "Also… I don't appreciate the way you're looking at me."

Then agony stabbed through Hawkeye's skull.

He screamed — and the world went black.

Panic flooded him as he realized the truth: he couldn't see.

He was blind.

"W-What… What did you do to me?!" he cried, voice trembling with disbelief and terror.

He couldn't comprehend it. A few words — just words — had cost him his sight.

But he hadn't shouted in vain. Even in pain, he was trying to send a message to the team.

This alien didn't just speak — his words manifested reality.

They had to be ready.

Now, with no vision, Hawkeye could only rely on the rest of his senses. He was grounded by despair, like a bird that had lost its wings, vulnerable and broken.

He could feel it in his bones — he was at the mercy of monsters.

Then Ebony Maw's voice came again, soft and merciless:

"How about this — tell me where Alex Ray is hiding in Hell's Kitchen, and I'll spare your life."

The name sent a jolt through Hawkeye.

They were after Alex?

Was this disaster somehow tied to him?

But he didn't hesitate. No matter what, he wouldn't sell out Alex. He didn't trust these aliens to keep their word anyway. Betrayal would only get him killed.

Ebony Maw's expression grew impatient. He was moments away from ending this.

Just then, Proxima Midnight stepped forward, amusement in her eyes. She brushed a finger under Hawkeye's chin and grinned.

"You're kind of handsome. Want to work for me?"

She gave a theatrical bow.

"I'm Proxima Midnight — one of the Black Order, generals under Lord Thanos. The one with the scythe who just carved you open? That's my husband, Corvus Glaive. And the one who took your eyes? That's our lovely Ebony Maw."

Ebony Maw gave her a sidelong glance, clearly disapproving of her antics, but said nothing.

Still bound and blinded, Hawkeye exhaled shakily.

At least now he knew their names. He already knew who Thanos was, and the Black Order — whispered names associated with death and destruction across the galaxy.

But what was their goal?

Hawkeye tried to focus, hoping to draw more intel from Proxima Midnight, but her next words hit him harder than her weapon ever could.

"I've said so much. Didn't your friends hear any of it?" she asked, voice sharp with mockery. "Why haven't they come to save you? Are humans really that cold? Look at you — abandoned."

Her voice cut like a knife. She knew others were listening. She had deliberately spoken loud and clear, hoping to draw them out — and to make Hawkeye feel utterly forsaken.

Each passing second felt like a slow execution. Hawkeye was trapped between hope and dread.

He wanted someone — anyone — to come for him.

But not Steve. Not him.

Steve was brave, but he'd be no match for these monsters. If he came, he'd die too.

Proxima Midnight stared down at Hawkeye with scorn.

She shook her head. "What a shame. I really thought Earth had at least a few people left with a spine."

As she spoke, Corvus Glaive raised his scythe again, preparing to finish what he'd started.

Hawkeye couldn't see the blade, but he could feel its chill near his throat. Death was close.

His consciousness was slipping from blood loss.

But just before the blackness took him, he thought he heard a voice — familiar, fierce, and desperately close.

"Barton, are you okay?!"
