At the same time, Gwen noticed Peter and Antonia Aguilar leaving abruptly and quickly followed after them.
Though unsure of what was going on, she could sense that something unexpected had forced them to leave in haste.
"Whoosh!"
She shot out her spider silk, swinging rapidly through the city, her mind spinning with confusion.
First, Ms. Aguilar revealed magical abilities and the power to control plants, and then a terrifying, cruel creature appeared out of nowhere.
"Why did I let Peter convince me to stay behind?" Gwen thought, feeling a pang of regret.
The rain began to pour heavier, the night growing darker and hazier with every passing second.
As she swung between buildings with increasing urgency, her anxiety grew. Finally, landing with a soft thud on a rooftop, she scanned her surroundings, but the dense rain obscured her view.
She glanced at her phone. Though it felt like she'd been chasing them for an eternity, only four minutes had passed.
Taking a deep breath, she resumed her pursuit, her spider silk propelling her further toward the city's outskirts.
---
The gravel path ahead stretched endlessly as Gwen ventured closer to a state park. The narrow road cut through thick pines, their branches forming a natural corridor overhead. Thunder rumbled ominously in the distance, intensifying her unease.
"I need to stay calm. Peter said he's fine," she thought, trying to reassure herself.
But deep down, she couldn't shake the growing fear of losing Peter.
As she swung along the path, her phone buzzed loudly. Startled, she landed abruptly, quickly checking her screen.
It was a text from Liz:
"What a shocking accident! Gwen, watch Kraven's live broadcast. I sent you and Peter a link before!"
Gwen frowned. "What?"
Opening the link, she was immediately met with a shocking sight: Kraven being held upside down by a massive, monstrous creature.
"What is this? A werewolf?" she thought in disbelief.
Suddenly, Gwen pieced it together. Kraven's live broadcast was taking place at the state park, and Peter and Ms. Aguilar had headed there as well.
Panic surged through her. She stowed her phone and swung faster than ever, desperate to reach them.
---
Meanwhile, Liz sat with her friends watching the live broadcast.
As an aspiring journalist obsessed with superhero and supernatural stories, Liz had been following Kraven's escapades closely.
"Vampires are elegant and deadly," Glory remarked, admiring her lipstick. "But werewolves? They're chaos and destruction."
Liz, only half-listening, stared at the screen as Kraven's supposed hunt took a shocking turn. The monstrous black werewolf that had attacked him was unlike anything she'd ever seen.
Its hulking form, dark fur, and glowing red eyes radiated pure menace.
"Black truly represents death," Liz thought as she watched in horrified fascination.
---
Back in the state park, Kraven lay on the ground, battered and broken, his body limp and powerless.
The werewolf loomed over him, its blood-red eyes glowing with predatory intent.
Kraven tried to taunt the creature, spitting blood as he muttered, "You… monster… want a fair fight?"
But the words barely left his lips before the werewolf seized him by the head and slammed him back into the ground.
Kraven's vision blurred as pain exploded through his body. His hands lay useless at his sides, his fingers twitching feebly.
He could feel the cold ground beneath him, and for the first time in his life, Kraven the Hunter felt truly hunted.
In the distance, he heard the faint snap of a triggered trap. His eyes flickered to the side, catching a shadow moving through the forest.
Hope and dread intertwined as he realized someone—or something—was approaching.
