Chapter 105: Chapter 105: Swapped Powers
"Erik, are you okay?" Charles was about to step forward to check on Erik, but Han Yu stopped him with a subtle shake of his head.
"Not yet," Han Yu said calmly. "His ability has just awakened, and it's in an uncontrollable phase. He needs time to process it on his own."
Mental energy surged from Han Yu, enveloping Erik in an invisible cocoon-like barrier, preventing him from causing further destruction to the surroundings.
Hearing this, Charles was taken aback. So, Erik was the one who caused the objects around them to shatter!
Despite his concern, Charles wasn't impulsive. Trusting Han Yu's judgment, he stepped back, though his expression remained deeply worried.
"Hang in there, Erik. Don't fail now," Han Yu murmured, clenching his fists as he watched Erik curled up on the ground, his body trembling violently.
Charles glanced at Han Yu with curiosity. Though this was Han Yu's first time meeting Erik, he seemed more invested in Erik's success than even Charles himself.
Could he be lying?
No, Charles thought. As someone with multiple doctorates, including one in psychology, he couldn't discern every truth at a glance, but he could read micro-expressions.
From Han Yu's face, Charles saw nothing but genuine concern and anticipation. That only made it stranger—why did Han Yu care so much about Erik's awakening? They were meeting for the first time, after all.
In truth, Erik—the legendary Magneto—was one of Han Yu's favorite Marvel characters. Erik was never someone who sought to harm others without cause. His transformation in the comics stemmed from the harrowing experiences of World War II and witnessing humanity's brutal persecution of mutants.
Forced by circumstance, Erik rose to lead mutants in resistance against humanity. Compared to Charles Xavier, who sought peaceful solutions, Han Yu resonated more with Magneto's approach. If he were a mutant, he wouldn't hesitate to join Erik's side.
After all, mutants weren't wrong for wanting to survive. It was humanity's inability to tolerate differences that left mutants no choice but to defend themselves against extermination.
Time passed quickly. Erik's violent tremors gradually subsided, their frequency decreasing until nearly stopping altogether—a process that had taken almost twenty minutes.
When Erik's body finally stilled, Han Yu released the mental barrier and was the first to approach, helping Erik to his feet.
Charles joined them, asking, "Are you okay?"
Erik, drenched in sweat and breathing heavily, managed a weak smile. "I'm not dead yet. But wow, that makes a hangover feel like child's play."
Hearing him joke, Charles let out a sigh of relief. A serious Erik would have been more alarming.
"Here, eat this first," Han Yu said, pulling out a Senzu Bean and handing it to Erik.
Erik examined the bean, turning it over in his hands and even sniffing it suspiciously until Han Yu, half-amused and half-annoyed, assured him it wasn't poisoned. Only then did Erik swallow it.
"Whoa! What is this? I feel completely recharged!" Erik exclaimed as he stood up, stretching his arms and legs. The exhaustion from the earlier ordeal was gone, replaced by a newfound vitality.
"Never mind that for now. What's your ability? Show us," Han Yu urged, his excitement mirrored by Charles. Both stared at Erik, eager to see his mutant power in action.
"I'll give it a try," Erik said, calming his mind to focus on the changes within himself. A moment later, he looked at Han Yu and Charles and spoke:
"Looks like this is my power."
But Erik hadn't spoken aloud. His voice echoed directly in their minds!
"Telepathy? That's interesting," Han Yu thought to himself. "So, these two friends have swapped powers. Erik's got telepathy, and Charles controls magnetism. This just got a lot more intriguing."
In their previous lives, they were locked in a cycle of love and conflict. Their respective powers often caused trouble for each other. Now, seeing their abilities swapped was undeniably intriguing.
"This... this isn't some kind of mind-reading, is it?" Erik continued to use his newfound power, transmitting his words directly into Han Yu and Charles's minds.
"No," Han Yu replied slowly. "Your ability is telepathy. You can access others' minds without physical contact, read and even alter their memories and thoughts, and control their actions."
"That powerful?" Erik was incredulous. His ability seemed far more destructive than he'd imagined. Though it didn't have the same visual flair as Charles's metal manipulation, it was undeniably formidable.
"Excellent. Now that both of you have your abilities, it's time to begin our plan. We need to gather mutants before the world becomes aware of their existence to prevent widespread chaos."
Han Yu didn't let Erik linger too long on the potency of his powers. Instead, he quickly brought up their plans. Both Charles and Erik listened attentively, occasionally voicing their thoughts. Han Yu welcomed their input, refining the strategy as they discussed.
After all, the plan had originally been tailored for the two of them. Han Yu had brought it from another world and adapted it for Charles and Erik, so their input was natural.
By the time they finished discussing, it was already 8 PM. They might have talked through the night if a classmate hadn't knocked on the door to inform them the café was closing.
"Oh no, the state of the room…"
Only then did they remember the damage. During Erik's awakening, many items in the room had been shattered. At the time, Han Yu's mental barrier had ensured no sound leaked outside, but now, how would they explain such extensive destruction?
"Don't worry. I've got it," Han Yu said with a smile.
He mentally communicated with his system, spending one upgrade point to restore the room to its original state. The seamless repair left Charles and Erik astonished.
Feigning nonchalance, Han Yu was inwardly lamenting. He berated the system furiously.
"You charged me an upgrade point just to fix a few things in the room? I'm the host! How could you scam me like this? Is fleecing me so enjoyable?"
Perhaps out of guilt—or sheer coincidence—the system suddenly issued a new mission.
"Ding! A side quest has been triggered: Collect the abilities of two mutants. Quest source: The Power of the Debt King."
Relieved at the unexpected opportunity, Han Yu discreetly used two Decade Cards, tapping them onto Charles and Erik. In return, he obtained ability cards infused with their powers.
"Side quest complete! Reward: 50 upgrade points!"
Han Yu glanced at the cards, noting a subtle change in their titles.
Professor Magneto – Charles.
King X – Erik.
