Book 10A - The Auction - Chapter 11

Ka'zahz referred us to three other vendors.

Out of over fifty.

"I can't believe you bought those things." I motioned at Aelin as soon as we were far enough away from Ka'zahz that I was sure he wouldn't be able to hear us. Which, to be fair, didn't need to be very far.

"It wasn't that much." Miel shrugged. "And it made her happy. I always imagined..." Her eyes got wistful for a moment, but she shook it away. "It made her happy."

"And it's going to make all the other women very jealous. Did you hear about the time that a Bolt Ring dropped? It was a rare item, and Ren could use it best, so I gave it to her. Then we had to sneak into the Dungeon and spend the entire next morning farming nine bosses until a ring dropped so Oz could have one."

"You gave it to Oz?" Miel raised an eyebrow.

"I gave one to Ether before either of them joined the team." I waved my hand. "That's not the point. The point is, you just got Aelin gear that costs more than everyone else's gear combined."

"If we see something the others can use, we can get it." The way she said it was like the price wasn't a concern.

"Just how rich are you?"

Miel clicked her tongue. "That's a very rude question, especially in public." She stopped and thought for a moment. "Let's just say that level eighty-one crystals sell for three point three million."

My eyes widened. Klix farmed on that floor. It was a floor where enemies spawned in groups of nine. That meant a single group was worth almost 30,000,000A. No wonder she wasn't even blinking at 300,000A. That was pocket change to her. Now I understood how Klix could subsidize housing and food for an entire city.

I realized that I was going to get left behind if I didn't start moving, so I hurried over to where Aelin was gawking at another booth. Considering that Aelin knew better than anyone else on the team what type of gear would work best, I left the two of them to look through the catalog and began typing out a message to Gesai.

Talked to the shady Rhastan on the east wall. Pretty sure he's selling trafficked goods, but he gave us a map of supposedly legitimate dealers.

I included a drawing of the mall and circled where Ka'zahz had indicated.

Gesai's message came back fast.

Think they are legit or not?

I didn't have to think about that one.

I doubt he'd send us to his buddies dealing in stolen goods after Miel made a point about checking papers. Now we kind of need to stick to these so we seem legitimate. You find anything?

Her response took a little longer.

Jenne is making progress. We should meet up at the cafe across the street in an hour. I think being on my CB is spooking this one.

I checked the time before I messaged back.

See you there.

I looked over at Aelin to see what she was looking at.

"How much stuff are you planning on buying?" There was mostly level four and five gear on the trade list for every member of our team, including Rix and Pixie.

"You were the one who said that we needed to update our gear!" Aelin tapped on a gold necklace with an emerald dolphin on it. That was all it was—just a fancy stone with no stats or bonuses. Just something pretty to wear.

"That's not Dungeon gear." I raised an eyebrow while looking at the blonde.

"I know!" Aelin laughed. "It's for you to give to Gesai."

"Oh…" I tried to imagine the older redhead wearing it. For some reason, a sea creature felt right for her. "How much?"

The older man started to speak, but Aelin cut him off. "Your mom said she was paying for everything. Don't be rude!" She playfully slapped me.

I looked at Miel for help, but the older woman simply had a smile on her face. She was taking pleasure in watching Aelin enjoy herself. I doubted she knew what beast she'd unleashed, but a whole set of legendary gear for all twelve of us was only twelve groups of mobs while Klix was farming. Which was probably less than two hours worth of work for her. I shrugged and decided not to spoil their fun.

I turned back to Aelin. "I think she'll like it." I looked at the list. "What else have you found?"
